Dr. Mike Demartelaere is thorough, patient, and a good listener. I had been seeing a nurse practitioner at Duly in Joliet for typical middle aged male maladies - high blood pressure & cholesterol. I know insurance companies will tell you that a nurse practitioner is "just as good" - they are not. I switched to Dr. Mike and he adjusted my medication - lower does and different meds, and spoke in positive and motivational ways about lifestyle changes. Everything is under control now and I feel great - with less medication. When I had a distal triceps rupture he referred me immediately to a competent surgeon who performed the extensive repair. I can't speak to the negative reviews of office staff that I have seen on Yelp, except to note that many of those reviews are dated and I have to believe that Hedges Clinic has addressed the issue because everyone I communicate with there is polite and I have no problems. I only rated 4 stars instead of 5 because they offer no weekend hours. I understand that doctors and staff want to enjoy weekends off like everyone, but they're in the healthcare industry, which is like the service industry in many ways. Not all working stiffs can take a day off work to go to the doctor. It would be nice if they were open 1/2 days perhaps every other Saturday. Sometimes you have to be at work when others are off to run the best business. That critique is for the Clinic - Dr. Mike still gets 5 stars. read more

I went to Hedges Clinic for an annual physical and couldn't be happier. It's a one stop shop where they do your blood work in their lab. By the time I was leaving my results appeared in the portal. Dr. Mike was amazing and cared about my health. The office staff were friendly and I didn't have to wait. I would give them 6 stars if I could. read more

The clinic has a lack of communication problem. Communication between the front desk and the doctors is poor. Getting call backs and test results can take long. Dr. Limon, Jenn Johnson, and Teresa Sawyer are great practitioners. It's unfortunate that Dr. Udovich and Dr. H belong to the same clinic. It's crazy when you have an ailment and they can't see you for a week. Or they suggest you see a clinic instead. Then the next day, they say you will get a telehealth call by 5 PM from Dr U and he doesn't call. Make sure you see Dr. L, JJ, or TS to get the best care. This clinic is the worst. No one has called me back in a month for my bloodwork results. The prescription they wrote for me is held up by insurance. I called to let them know and they told me a nurse would call back within two weeks! Waited...no call. Called a gain and she had the audacity to tell me to call insurance and figure it out if it's an issue. My appointment was the week before Thanksgiving...still no call. Called again at 445 on a Monday, answering machine said closed. Website hours say open until 5. This place is a disaster. Constantly switching software so it's impossible to track services. No one calls back. Been almost two months for a prescription to get filled and it still is in limbo. Don't waste your time with this place. You're revenue to them, not a patient in need. Dr. Mike is great, but now that it's part of Silver Cross, the quality of care has totally evaporated. read more

Whatever you do, avoid this facility, they are more concerned with payment than actual medical care. The Dr's are great, it is the Admin staff that will drive you crazy. First words out of their mouth is "you owe...." Today they refused to make a Dr. appt when we were in urgent need. I informed them the claims are being again reviewed by my insurance, they still refused to let us receive an appointment. I have NEVER seen a medical facility, where I have shown I pay my bills, refuse service in need and place $$$ before patience. It has happened to me many times where they only cared about money, today it effected my health. Oh and don't complain about staff, you talk to the head of accounting, which is the same as the head of HR it seems, so if you have a problem with any staff members, they are close knit group and will band together against the customer. Tried to make an appointment with "my doctor " demartalare. Same issue as last year, a respiratory issue which he prescribed an inhaler .I was asked if I was vaccinated. After answering I was told that I can get a telehealth visit. I asked how can you listen to my lungs via computer? I was told that after the televisit I can meet someone in the parking lot.!!!! Wth?? What kind of back alley show is this? I hung up and immediately switched doctors. Now I can't be seen by the new doctor until may Probably better than hedges though I can't believe they're treating me, or anyone like this !!! It's 2023 the pandemic is over. I have been trying to contact my family doctor here, Dr. Limon, for some time but the phone system is atrocious. First it tells me how many people are ahead of me in the phone queue, then puts me on hold for five minutes, then tells me "Extension such-and-such is not available" and hangs up on me! And this was without entering a specific extension; all I was trying to do was call the main number. I can't even let them know about it because the only contact option they provide on their Website is -- you guessed it -- their phone number. I ended up going to an immediate care facility much closer to me and received perfectly good care there. In fact, that's probably what I'm going to do from now on since I only go to a doctor for a specific problem. Too bad they lost a long-time patient because of their phone system. read more

I used to love hedges clinic. My entire family went there for every need possible. They had one of the best doctors: Dr Olson. She has since retired from family medicine, in doing so the clinic decided they would ban our entire family for LIFE from every being able to come and see another patient. Apparently, they did it to several other patients as well. However, they are subsequently accepting new patients. Really poor service and absolutely ridiculous that they would ban people because a doctor decided to retire. I am giving 5 stars to Dr. Olson (Multack) and her nurse Julie Smith! They are wonderful! I drive 90 miles one way to see Dr. Olson and I will continue to do so. She is caring, compassionate, attentive; a fabulous doctor! I never feel rushed when I am with her. She listens and answers all of my questions. Julie is quick to return phone calls and great to interact with. Love them both!! I would agree however with other reviewers in that the front desk could be more pleasure especially when calling. read more

Dr. Antonini is great with our son. He used to even be my pediatrician. His nurse is amazing as well. Now I see Dr Olson and she's the most caring doctor. Basically everyone I've run into after the front desk is great, but the reviews are right. The front desk staff can use some manners. It's a doctors office but that front desk is not welcoming. It's not like anyone who's going to the doctors office wants to be there...it would be nice to have a good experience while you're there. The doctors and nurses are absolutely wonderful and caring. The lab technicians are wonderful and very good at what they do. Anytime I have an insurance issue, I will only deal with one person and her name is Claudia because she is the best. I feel bad giving such a low score because the doctors I've seen here are all wonderful. My issue is with the office staff. My doctor had ordered an ultrasound and I was told they had to get approval from insurance. After over a week, I called to talk to the insurance department. The woman told me "it looks like they ran it yesterday and you don't need pre-approval". I wonder why it took an entire week for them to call for approval and when someone was going to call me to tell me I could go ahead and schedule my test. Then, weeks later, my doctor ordered another test that needed pre-approval. The nurse told me if I didn't hear from them in 10 days (by December 18th) I should call and talk to the insurance department. I don't feel like it should be up to the patient to have to call to check. The office should be calling the patient once they find out. Anyways, it's now March 1st. No one EVER called me. My symptoms subsided or I would have called, but this is just completely unacceptable. I really feel bad for for the doctors because I know several people who have left this office due to the office staff even though they loved their doctor. read more

Nothing but problems with the staff and Dr Multack. Her nurse is great, but the receptionist are not very friendly. I have stayed here a couple years and was totally dismissed by Dr Multack. They tell you the place is run however the doctors want to. The phone system at Hedges was designed by Rube Goldberg. If you call they tell you to call emergency services if this is an emergency, wow I'm glad you thought of that. When you call a recorded voice tells you that no one is ahead of you then it still takes another minute before they condescend to answer. I tried to contact the lab, no answer , so I called the appointment line they told me that the lab personnel were in a meeting. Ok, so they have a recording for everything else but nothing to let you know that they can't answer, and no voicemail? Evidently they got the phone system from the lowest bidder! Best Doctors ever! The doctors, nurses, receptionists, lab techs, EVERYONE is awesome and caring and sweet! I have only been with this clinic for 2 years and every time I go I am blown away with how professional and educated the staff is: AND because I am still newer to this clinic I can comment without bias! In the past, at other offices, I have waited upwards of 2 hours. In this clinic I have NEVER waited more than 20 minutes, and that is on a bad day. More often than not, once I check in I have enough time to take off my coat, sit down and load a game on my phone and they call my name! Maybe the rooms don't look the most 'state of the art' but the important thing is, your medical chart. Everything is entered into the computer and when you are given a script it can be sent/faxed right to the pharmacy of your choice before you even leave. They have a lab on site so when your doc orders something, again it's entered into the computer, and you walk right around the corner and whala, labs done! I've also heard tale that they have an x-ray machine too but luckily my family and I have yet to use this! There's even a small pharmacy too. I also like that it's a practice, if my doc isn't in or is full (same for my kids which is important) if we are REALLY sick we WILL be seen same day! IDK about the last review, I can't speculate as to how sick this person was or was not, but I know that every time someone in our family HAD to get in we GOT in. Also, this clinic has after hours WALK IN!!!!!!!!!!! That's right.......... After hours walk in from 6-9p, so in the crazy event that you can't get in that day, you can just walk in and be seen on a first come first seen basis and still use your insurance!! How awesome is that!! I can only assume that's the Urgent Care the previous writer was referring to and it would still have been the same day! Can I just mention again, the computers are linked so the after hours doctors can see your medical history and again send in a script if necessary! Hedges, keep it up! read more

Doctors wonderful there. And I can't say enough positive about them. . Phone system terrible. Tells you that you are in a queue and there are people ahead of you. The most recent was 3. After 15 minutes it disconnects you no matter what. You can leave a call back number and have them call you but why if I'm 3rd in a queue doesn't anyone eventually answer. I have had instances where the phone people ask very personal questions that I really only want to share with my doctor. When I tell the individual that they say I have to tell them to see a doctor. For the main clinic, I have tried for literally months to get in (Dr. Olsen only takes one new patient per day) Prior to my first appt with Dr. Olsen (already scheduled) I went to After Hours Care at the recommendation of my GYN. They refused to see me for a bladder infection, saying I needed to go to an ER. Wait...... I thought this was a 6-9 pm Urgent Care. Appalling and arbitrary treatment. It would be nice to have updated information/ message about office hours changing due to the current situation. The message says they are open till 5. I have called 3 times well before 5 and they are already closed. So, when is a person supposed to call to get a prescription refill? I have to call every month for a refill because of the medication I am on. I cannot call too early in the month because they won't refill it. I am still working Monday -Friday. Waited over a month for my appointment. When I called to schedule I gave them all my new insurance information and stated this is why I am making an appointment because I have new insurance. The day before they call to confirm my appointment. Two hours later, they call to say they do not show that I have insurance. I stated that I gave all that information when I originally scheduled the appointment as well as emailed it to them. They stated that since they do not have the information and that they could not enter it in now that they would have to reschedule my appointment. Someone really dropped the ball in that office. You first call to confirm, then two hours later you say you are cancelling and have to reschedule because you do not show my insurance. Told them based on this I will not be rescheduling or making any future appointments with them. What a bunch of idiots. read more

I know that any insurance department is hard to deal with. I've only had to deal with them once. The lady automatically hated me right off the bat. Which is weird because people love me. The front end is actually very reasonable and nice. If you think about how difficult it is for them handle all the patients, the phone calls, the files. I would think they would be way more mean. The reason I'm giving this 5 stars is simply because of my Dr. I have been going to hedges since I was a kid, and had the same Dr. since. Dr. Mike doesn't just walk in, and say "take these and call me in a month." He genuinely cares for his patients, listens to and actually hears what they say, and wants to get them healthy and happy. THE ABSOLUTE WORST. Even writing this makes me angry! I am the mom of two young children, and this place is a complete and total joke. I am surprised they're still in business and haven't been sued. WHY? YOU CANNOT GET THROUGH ON THEIR PHONE LINES DURING NORMAL BUSINESS HOURS. I mean it. NO ONE PICKS UP. You call with a sick child, want to make an appointment, or just have a general question and it either a) rings once and hangs up on you B) rings constantly with no pick-up or c) rings, you get placed on hold, and no one ever picks up. I have complained about this IN-PERSON to the OFFICE MANAGER THREE times on the phone, TWICE IN PERSON, and every single time to my pediatrician. Each time I'm told "they're working on it" or "we just bought a new system." This has been happening for OVER ONE YEAR -- no exaggeration. One time, my one-year-old son was running a high fever and I was so desperate to speak to the office, but since no one picked-up the line, I drove him over and demanded he be seen. I gave this place a chance for this long because I liked the pediatrician we saw, but no more. This place is an actual LIABILITY to my children. A bunch of hacks. I'm an APN (advanced practice nurse) so I know a little bit about healthcare. Been in the field for over 30 years. I've been going to Hedges for at least 12 years now with my family. I can say without any hesitation that the desk staff are the rudest people out there. I have had 3 unbelievably abrasive interactions with them in the last 3 months and now I'm left debating if I should switch doctors because of the rude office staff. Here are the details of my 3 most recent interactions (there are more but I think 3 is enough): 1. Desk staff refused to let me make an appointment for my daughter to have a flu shot. She said I needed to see the shot nurse who works the same hours I do...obviously not going to work. I had to lie and make up symptoms to get in to see Dr Limon & Latoya to give my daughter her first flu shot. People have had terrible reactions to the flu shot, it was my daughter's first, and I wasn't going to take her to Walgreens! 2. I had a chest CT. Was called within 2 hours saying I needed to make an appointment to see Dr Limon ASAP to discuss the results. SCARY! The desk acted like I was coming in for a routine cholesterol check. She booked me out 3 weeks! I kept telling her I NEED TO TALK TO THE NURSE, thinking I have a tumor in my chest or something. I had to beg her to ask the nurse or doctor to call me. Fortunately Latoya called me a couple hours later telling me I had something in one of the lobes of my lung. I didn't trust it. Turned out to be a typo. 3. Today I tried to make an appointment for my husband. I just made a payment to our account a couple weeks ago. We have 3 people in our house going to this office FOR OVER 12 YEARS. We have a lot of medical bills, I had surgery recently, my husband was inpatient for over a month last year, etc. But I consistently pay our bills. Bigger bills than Hedges! I was told by the desk staff that my husband owes $104.58 and she cannot make an appointment for him until the account was brought current. Fair but she didn't leave it at that. She went on to say they have sent 6 bills, the last one was final notice, and that I need to stay current on my bills. Oh, and she has no idea what happened with my most recent payment. Unbelievably rude! Needless to say, I gave her a piece of my mind. She could dish it but couldn't take it so she left me on hold to talk with her manager (I'm assuming). I explained to the manager my situation, she also made it sound like I was terribly late on this bill etc, no idea what happened to my last payment, blah blah blah. At this point I just wanted to pay the bill and be done. So I gave her my HSA number. When I got to the expiration date I realized the card was expired, and then the manager laughed at me! Honestly she giggled! I'm telling you, these are mean people. Fortunately I had the new unactivated card. I literally placed her on hold for a couple seconds, dialed the number to activate the new card, merged the calls so she could hear me activating the new card, then when I got off the phone with the HSA she says, "well I deleted everything because your card was expired so we need to start over". At this point, I gave up on making an appointment with the doctor, which should have been the priority because my husband is having concerning issues. Just for fun, I checked my bills from Hedges. There was no "final notice" on my husbands $104.58 bill. My daughters account is current at $17.18 and my balance is $66.95. AND I made a payment to Hedges for $100 a few weeks ago but it's not showing on any of the bills?!? Considering we have around 22 medical bills that we have recently paid or are paying on and we've been seeing Dr. Limon since she finished school, I don't think that's bad. Dr. Limon and Latoya, you are amazing and deserve quality staff. Do yourselves a favor and get out of that office, get new desk staff, or educate them. I can only imagine how many patients have experienced delayed diagnosis or treatment because of the desk staffs' poor judgement. It's truly unfortunate. read more

Dr. Multack and her nurse are wonderful, as is the lab staff I've encountered. However, the people who answer the phones should be replaced. I've not had a single encounter where they have not been rude. I cannot stand when people act like I'm putting them out by asking them to do their jobs.Get these people some customer service classes, make them implement what they learn, or get rid of them. The doctors at Hedges are great. Too bad the people that answer the phones and check you in are not. If you call, the phone just rings and rings. Try to call back later and get more ringing and then a person just picks up the phone and hangs it back up. That's happened multiple times. When you check In the first people you see are rude. You would think if they were short staffed they would try to hire more people. If the phone system is outdated then upgrade it. Its a shame as we are considering going elsewhere because its impossible to get through. read more

Do not go to this office. Their insurance department is extremely difficult to deal with. They refused to make one phone call to verify my insurance status even though my insurance company Blue Cross/Blue Shield specifically referred me to them. I spent over an hour on the phone with my insurance and all they needed to do was make one phone call and they refused. They obviously do not have their patient's health needs as their priority and do not want new patients. Find another doctor. read more

I tried to make an appointment with my doctor in 2015 and was told that I would have to see another doctor because my personal physician was out of town. After seeing the other doctor who seemed indifferent to my illness (she prescribed me vitamin D for numbness in my leg?!?!). I was not happy so I had not returned. I tried to make an appointment today and was told that I hadn't seen my doctor in 2015 so now I'm considered a new patient. My doctor is not taking new patients! I can't help but wonder if this would be happening to me if I wasn't an African-American man. read more

Been going for years at this clinic because the location is awesome, but the people at the desks have been becoming more and more rude. Sometimes you have to call a couple times to get anyone to answer your call and when they do answer, they talk down to you. They make you feel like you're wasting their time and they dont care. Also there was this one time the girl at the desk forgot to check me in for my appointment. I was waiting for a good half hour and notice people that came after me were going ahead of me. I went up to the lady and told her "Hey ive been waiting for awhile, whats going on? Theres a lot of people going ahead of me." She told me "I forgot to check you in, you should of come up to me sooner." No apolgies whatsoever from her! I was livid. I work in the medical field as well, i understand it gets hectic at times but you always need to keep your cool. Other medical offices have never treat me like the way they do.
