Popped in for a late quick lunch. My husband ordered the small plate of nachos and they were huge, we definitely could have split them. I ordered the taquitos appetizer and it was the perfect amount of food for a lunch meal. The service was friendly even though I believe it was just the cook (or possibly owner) doing everything as we were dining at an odd time (almost 4pm) and he was so kind and attentive. I am not a food snob, nor a culinary critic. It doesn't take much to make me happy. But this was a disappointing experience all 'round. When we first entered (we're visiting from L.A.) it didn't seem very busy. We asked, "can we just sit down" and a woman snapped at me "NO! We have to check the book." It was rather jarring. But we were seated at a pleasant booth by our server, a very nice young lady. It took a while before she came to take our drink orders, and it took a while for them to arrive. My wife and I each had a strawberry margarita, which tasted nice, like a strawberry shake. Sadly, like a strawberry shake, I could not taste any hint of tequila in the drink. My daughters double raspberry margarita was similarly weak. We placed our orders, and then waited. And waited. And waited. The food did not arrive until 55 minutes after we'd first walked in the door. Unacceptable. When it did arrive, we were dismayed at the tiny portions. My $21 dollar plate of three enchiladas was tragic; three small tortillas, not even rolled, just forlornly folded over. A small bit of tasteless beef inside, tomato sauce slathered all over it, and bits of crumbled cheese sprinkled on top. My wife ordered a burrito, or so she thought, but received three small tortillas, rolled up with chicken and beans, as requested. She also reports the chicken as "not tasting that great." My daughter ordered the three chicken taco appetizer as she was not very hungry. Good thing, as they were tiny as well. The refried black beans we all had were strangely dark and flavorless. The rice tasted like white rice with a bit of tomato sauce, rather moist and heavy, not tasting like Mexican rice at all. And at the end of this sorry meal, the bill came to 95 dollars. I'm from LA. I know what expensive food tastes like. I don't mind spending a lot of money if the experience is good and the food is excellent. This was not the case here. The food was expensive and flavorless, the portions were small and the kitchen was glacially slow in preparing it. Not recommended. read more

After a long hike, we were starving when we chose this restaurant in the Mission area of Kelowna. We we hoping to find something hearty and delicious and relatively fast to eat. Hector's Casa hit all these points, and their service was excellent too. I had the Tacos Costero and my friend had the Enchiladas Verdes. Both dishes were cooked perfectly with sides of rice and black beans which were also yummy. We were both very satisfied and happy when we left. Also, the service was very friendly and neighbourly, and we appreciated the overall warmth of this restaurant. We'll definitely be back. read more

I went to Hector's on may 4 with my elderly parents...they didn't get to go to Mexico this year so were very excited for some Mexican fare. The setting is quite nice, server was lovely, piped in music charming, plating of the food was lovely. But the food....sad. 1. "Salsa" was nothing more than tomatoes and onion...no cilantro or seasoning. We stopped eatting it after two bites. 2. My mom ordered "shrimp tacos". Lady loves her shrimps. I was told that the meat inside the thick and hard batter was "a shrimp" but we couldnt tell. It was not edible, waitress could see my mom was disappointed and removed that charge from the bill. 3. My dad and I had "chicken chimichangas". This was nothing more than three taquitos with lots of shaved lettuce piled on top and and a drizzle of crema. No Flavor at all, rice was bland, black beans were extremely dry. I wrote them an email regarding this, they apologized and told me to send etransfer info so they could refund. I did that, more than once, emailed the store and phoned and left message. Silence. If you want Mexican, this is not the place. This place is good for meat lovers and vegetarians, there were plenty of options for food and the waiters were very helpful with recommendations when I was debating between two different ones. I went here today with my partner and child. We waited quite a while for our nachos which we both did enjoy but our main courses, the burrito and enchilada rohas were just extremely disappointing. They were very small and for quite a high price! I live in the area and have been meaning to check Hector's out for a while. Maybe I had high expectations and hopes, which unfortunately caused me to be rather disappointed, but it was definitely not what I had in mind. I'm not sure how authentic ciabatta bread and caesar salads are in Mexican cuisine, but setting that aside, the food just tasted like your typical Americanized take on Mexican. It was a busy Saturday night and my only experience eating here, since I am not from Kelowna and I'd be hard pressed to return. The staff were wonderful and obviously trying but the amount of negatives undo the pleasantness and smiles. We had a reservation for four people at 7pm and we were not sat until about 7:20. Fair enough, it was a beautiful night and we wanted to sit on the patio, this I can forgive especially since I was excited for 'Authentic Mexican' food. When we are finally seated, the table is meant for two people and cranked into a corner, clearly not meant for four people and like bumping elbow distance from the table next to us. I am assuming they sat us here because they had failed to fulfill the reserved table within a proper time frame. Luckily, they did move us over to a proper four top within about 15 minutes. So anyway, the table we are moved to is basically on the other side of the table we were elbow to elbow with. At first, that table was really cool about us being seated in their space with the exception of one super drunk woman. She was basically your old drunken bag of an aunt that hits on the younger cousins date at holiday dinners. I can excuse being foaming drunk at 7:45 on a Saturday night (at dinner) but it didn't help that the server just kept bringing tequila shots every time she asked. I'm pretty sure 'Serving It Right' would have exploded in dismay if it were capable. The whole thing was uncomfortable to us, the other three moderately buzzed people at drunkies table and the rest of the patrons nearby. This is totally unacceptable and frankly dangerous. Our Drinks: Ordered a $40 pitcher of lime margaritas that was so-so, no real limes used, not prepared with enough crushed ice but at least it was drowning in booze. Since I was sober, I was starting to enjoy that their liberal booze attitude extended to all customers and not just shit faced old cruisers . We also each had a Mexican beer, thankfully they carry Negra Modelo in the bottle. The drinks were brought to the table promptly. Our Food: No surprise because it was busy, the food took about an hour to get to our table. The portions were on the small side for the price, the authenticity is questionable but the taste was all around good. One friend mentioned that the chicken was a little dry and flavourless, but my fish great. They did hook us up with free chips and salsa because our orders were really late. We had previously had their chips and guacamole as a starter, I was surprised the chips and salsa weren't free to begin with, the guac was underwhelming at best. To sum it up, this place serves Mexi-Cali style food which would pass for authentic if you have never set foot in Mexico. The portions are small and passable on taste but are WAY overpriced for what you get. Booze flows freely like a magically elixir to prevent you from realizing the rest of the ambiance and experience is sub-par. At least the staff were working hard and smiling throughout it all. read more

I have been there several times and the food has always been delish. But i was there last night and the rice was undercooked and chewy. And they apparently ran out of guacamole (which was supposed to come with my burrito), and my burritos were missing their filling. There was only about 1 tsp of shredded chicken in each. I had to borrow a spoon of my husband's beans to dip my dry tortilla bites into just to swallow (i was hungry, since we waited 40 minutes for our plates to arrive). I could have made empty baked tortillas at home myself for a lot less than $16. And i believe my fiance and i both have minor food poisoning today after eating there. Not good. read more

My family has come to the pandosy area of Kelowna for 11 years in a row. Every time we have come to hectors and the food has always been outstanding. They are under new ownership the menu is new and the food again was amazing. The only complaint is that they took the garlic shrimp off the menu. It is safe to say that we were from disappointed - delicious and colorful dishes arrived, including some of the tastiest nachos that I have had in quite some time! Hectors Casa boasts of being the best authentic Mexican Restaurant in Kelowna, and if it is, I would tell you not to try to eat Mexican food in Kelowna. The prices are outrageous for Mexican food, and the quality is sub-par. The family that owns it is apparently from Mexico, but perhaps they should go back for a visit and re-learn how to cook. I've never been so disappointed in a Mexican dinner. The chips and salsa were a joke. The salsa was not salsa at all, but pico de gallo without jalapenos. The chicken enchiladas were $17 or $18, and were the worst chicken enchiladas I've ever had. Better stay away from Hector's Casa and go to Taco del Mar instead, a cheaper and much tastier dinner. read more

This used to be hands down the best Mexican food in the Okanagan, always a 5 star rated meal. We have been regulars for at least 8 years and have taken many visitors to this restaurant over the years. We went there tonight and were underwhelmed. The refried beans are now black, the house chips and salsa seem to have changed somewhat, the rice has definitely changed, and the meat was not cut well, we had large chunks of some sort of mystery meat bits that seemed to have missed the mark somewhat in both our chicken and beef enchiladas. Quality control seems to have slipped significantly, on a menu that is quite reduced from what it used to be. Fajitas also no longer on the menu which seems very, very strange for a Mexican restaurant. We'll give them one more chance because they've always been good over the years and they may just have had an off night. read more
