Built in 1887 it is a witness of the amazing history of Berlin - from Kaiser Wilhelm to WWI, the first democratic German government in the 1920's, the Depression, the rise of the Nazi party, WWII, the East/West divide of the city, and unification in 1989. Throughout the years, the Wintergarten kept on playing and hosted famous actors and artists ever since. Putting history aside, what you can expect in this traditional Berlin theatre are variete shows, and the usual magician also stops by every once in a while. All shows are in German but if you focus on something more dance-oriented you should be able to follow even if you don't speak the language. The venue is small and intimate, with a table area near the stage, and an upper seating area. You can get dinner downstairs while the show goes on, and the upstairs areas are being served by waiters. Should be. When I was there service was lacking. No waiter showed up, apparently they were understaffed. Shows are quite expensive (50 Euro plus). Hit or miss, I would probably not be back.

It was great place and the show that I have seen was brilliant. I came here with my partner for the show "Seifen Oper". the theater also offers different kind of shows, then people want to visit always can find the show they most interested about to go for. We got our ticket via their website. It really convenient, just couple clicks. Of course, if you're kind of old fashion, you can always get the ticket at the entrance there. When we were there, there was an photographer at the entrance, he was taking picture for all the guests. I talked with him about this. So this was like souvenir thing, guest could pick up the photos in the middle break of the show. But got to pay for this. It was a bit too pricy for us and our photo was just ok, so we didn't pick it up. It is also ok if you don't want any pics from this, simply tell the photographer. The interior design of the theater really gave me a wow. It was pretty grand and romantic. There were many different dresses on the wall of the theater. They were all dresses of the best show that have been played in the theater, it kind like a trophy showcase, really cool. The celling is full of decoration lights, looked just like the night sky. about the seats, just like in the concert, the closer to the stage, the more expensive the seats will cost. But for good show, why not. We were siting quite close to the stage. And it was quite lucky for us, we got the whole table for ourselves. Now let's talk about the show I saw. It was really entertaining, I laughed quite a lot, also some chapters got my eyes wet. There were couple really great scenes I really like and enjoyed. I think most of them are somehow related with water. The story itself was quite simple. But I think the performing really made the show great. Brilliant. They also offer food and drinks, no worried if you got hungry or thirsty. The price is acceptable. I like service as well, very friendly. I could see myself come to this theater again, really nice place. But first need to find the show that I interested at.

So was my experience when I visited the venue for the first time just last week; it's facade just wasn't that interesting to me. And in general, I tend to be skeptical of larger concert venues. However, Tempodrom really does deliver, as well as make the saying "don't judge a book by its cover" ring true. The inside is big, with plenty of room to navigate. The entrance itself is on a mezzanine-type level, with stairs up to the seats or down to the concert floor. There are plenty of bars, and though the prices are a bit more than smaller clubs, they still were less than I was expecting (for example, I paid €3,50 for a class of wine that is maybe a euro less at smaller spots). They also sell snack food, such as pretzels, which is kind of a nice touch. The sound was also fine. Granted I didn't try out many spots in the room, but other than being loud (more the bands than the sound itself, thank goodness for earplugs), it was a pleasurable listening experience.

After a year, her circus was already bankrupt, but Berlin's city government stepped into save the venture and partnered her with Holger Klotzbach--a renown Cabaret man. The federal government invoked eminent domain in 1999 to forcibly relocate the Tempodrom concert venue away from the planned chancellor's office to the site of the former Anhalter Bahnhof. With private donations and the damages awarded by the German government the Tempodrom was converted into this permanent structure meant to evoke the shape of the circus tent that gave it its start. As with many large projects in Berlin, construction ended up costing twice as much as budgeted and led to a series of resignations over mismanagement charges.

You will also wait to get them for half an hour even though nobody else ordered any food. But come downstairs and you will be inspired, because Zosch is actually a Veranstaltungskneipe! It's an event pub, and all the fun happens in the grungy basement, where a stage hosts bands playing music of varying quality and there's even an extra bar. Do come here on a Wednesday around 8-11 PM, when a really-really great band called La Foot Creole plays New Orleans jazz and Dixieland. There's giant wooden tables and cheap beer, so bring your friends, and listen to some fantastic authentic live music. It's the perfect way to spend an evening.

Located in Berlin's historical Jewish area, around the corner from the New Synagogue, in the charming non-renovated buildings of Tucholskystrasse (I think I found evidence of WWII gunfire on the walls), can you find Zosch. Simple wooden interior with an awesome metal bar, simple beer and wine collection, regular basic long drinks, and ok food - why should you not back out and try one of the high-end restaurants/bars of the area instead? I will tell you! Go downstairs into the basement. If you are a smoker, you find yourself in heaven. If you are a non-smoker like me, take a deep breath upstairs and dive in regardless. What you will find after passing a fussball-table (!!) and yet another bar, and a crowd as thick as the air, is a true Berlin Unikat (unique and authentic thing). You are now in a stone cave with rows of wooden benches all facing a small venue. The place will be packed if it's early evening and a concert is taking place. I used to come for the Wednesday night jazz band with an average age among the musician of about 65 - and a new Orleans jazz sound to die for. Like in the old days, the sound of the band fought against the sound of the chattering and drinking crowd, for there were no microphones for instruments OR voice alike. Trompet, clarinet, stand-up bass, New Orleans piano and smoky voice came completely analog and succeeded! This is remarkable, considering Zosch is the regular place for Goethe-Institute students and therfore PACKED with young people from around the world learning German and having fun. The beer is cheap and plenty and gets brought to your seat by acrobatic waiters. But be prepared to scream your thanks and not get a response. In between try to talk to one of the pipe-smoking regulars and catch a tale or two of pre-perestroika life in Berlin. When the music is over, give the bartenders a break and say your good-byes. If you haven't gotten enough nostalgia yet, not far away is Clärchen's Ballhaus for some authentic 1940's dance-fun. But that's another story. :) Ps: not so many glutenfree food options here unfortunately
