Here, they pierce with integrity, they educate before, during and after. If there's a risk or problem, they tell you. They really make the process as efficient, clean, and painless as possible. I truly appreciate the knowledge. We learned that one of my friends has a slightly deviated septum, while another has one ear that would best fit a rook piercing, but all three of us agreed that this experience with Meagan was a 10/10 experience. After experiencing the aftercare from my septum with another piercing, I'll definitely be back if I'm looking for any other piercings. Just be mindful of the limited parking--it is Westheimer after all!

I came in on my birthday for a nose piercing and had a great experience! Because my nose had been…read morepierced previously and they didn't have to re make a hole, they ended up taking the piercing fee off and just charged for the jewelry which I thought was super nice. The shop was lovely and had a great vibe about it so I decided to schedule a tattoo appt here to get a little MJ piece. Unfortunately, I didn't have that same amazing experience. During our email communication, I was told that the piece would only take an hour and that the artists hourly rate was $200. The tattoo only ended up taking 30 minutes but when I went to checkout, the artist rang me up for $250 on a design that wasn't modified at all from a web search I did. I'm all for paying for skills and years of service but I was really thrown off that the total was different than discussed previously. I brought that up and she changed it back to $200 but I thought that was a very weird thing to do. Overall, I'd return for piercings, if I wanted more, but I don't think I'd return for a tattoo.

If I didn't send a message first, I wouldn't hear anything. Every response required me to follow up, sometimes multiple times. My appointment was rescheduled over and over, and then canceled the day before after I had already rearranged my schedule around it. This became a pattern of poor communication and last-minute changes. Meanwhile, I was never sent my tattoo design or kept updated throughout the process. Clients shouldn't have to beg for basic communication or wonder if their appointment is actually happening. There may be talented artists out there, but professionalism and reliability matter just as much. Unfortunately, this experience had neither. After wasting weeks trying to make it work, I requested my deposit back and took my business elsewhere.

The place is kept really clean and Johnny even offered snacks during a break. It's a private studio which is nice because I don't really a big fan of random people popping in while I'm being worked on. 5/5 In depth review of the whole process. Objective: Booking periods happen only so often. I submitted my application with two concept ideas. I received my email October 2nd telling me I was selected for the Feb/Mar cycle. I paid my booking deposit then gave them my availability, they worked with my availability and I was scheduled for March 15th. Once the appointment was confirmed I told them I'm willing to switch appointments if necessary to work around his other clients. My appointment date remained the same but my time was moved to 7am which was nice. Johnny reached out February 16 for a confirmation on the exact design (I kept going back and forth sending in different things) and March 8th I got a courtesy email for my upcoming session. I showed up to the studio and Johnny was finishing up the final design. We talked briefly on the different aspects of shading and line work but I told him that I trusted him because he's the artist and he knows what will probably look best for the final piece. The session was about 6 hours with 3 breaks. Snacks and beverages were provided. The studio itself is open with tall ceilings. It has couches and a long meeting table. The tattoo I got cover parts of my chest, my sternum, some ribs, and my upper abdomen. It was a painful tattoo Subjective: The booking process was really nice and communication from his assistant was nice. I think he got a new assistant sometime after my appointment was confirmed, nothing was wrong with his old assistant but his new one Melanie has a much more welcoming online persona. Her personality in person matches it too. Johnny comes off as a casual laid-back guy. He's nonchalant yet he's very interested in his clients. He gave me a sense of autonomy throughout the whole process. In hindsight I gave him very little to work with and while doing the final touches he was asking me what I liked specifically about the reference pictures. I sent him a couple of pictures of different designs by other artists and it was really nice to know he took them into consideration. I've been to an artist before where I brought in printed references and the artist glimpsed at it then pulled out the sketch he already had before I showed up. While I was being worked on the pain was too much for me to handle in the beginning, given the location and design it's expected to hurt. I asked if I could have a break after the main outline was done and Johnny agreed. I didn't feel any mental resistance from him. He wrapped up the area so I could go outside and get some fresh air. After that I didn't have to ask for breaks, Johnny stopped and gave me two more. I'm not sure how but Johnny knew when I was getting reaching my threshold. Given he's had years of experience I'm sure he's picked up a 6th sense on how to read people. After the main outline was done Johnny stopped and asked how I wanted the rest of the session to play out. I told him I'd prefer to do the top part of my tattoo because I knew the bold lines would hurt more and I personally like having the most painful part of a tattoo done first. Johnny is the first artist to give me that option. Johnny himself as a person is hella cool. During the whole session we didn't talk much which was nice because I just wanted to relax (i'm on spring break from nursing school and my life since august has been studying so I actually don't know how to talk to people anymore lmao). From our conversation Johnny comes off as someone who wants to know his clients. This isn't just another transaction for him. He asked me questions to get to know me but he never pushed me to share. We both shared stories and aspects of lives that were interesting. Melanie went out for a bit and offered to pick something up. Johnny asked if I wanted anything which was really nice and I asked for coffee and a sandwich. When she came back I offered to pay and Johnny told me that he'd pay for it ( johnny is just nice af). This is my opinion but getting a tattoo is only cool after you get it. When I'm getting work done I'm being vulnerable to the public. I'm not a fan of getting work done while random people walk by watching me trying to hold myself together. The whole process is just painful and it sucks. I like this studio because it's just him and his assistance. Overall I had a really great experience. It's only been 4 days but I wake up every morning still in awe at his work. Pros: Johnny is cool Melanie is nice final product is dope snacks privacy Cons: that shit hurted

I spent several weeks doing internet research on Houston area artists and drawn toward the photos posted by Red Dagger's Aaron Springs. I saw that he was detail oriented and phenomenal with color and shading. What I also gleaned from the photos was his good sense of humor. I decided I was ready to take the plunge and reached out to Aaron via his personal website. He responded in a reasonable time frame and from there we conversed thru email/phone/photos about what I the tattoo I was covering up and what the new tattoo would consist of. Aaron was honest and up front about the cover-up process, pointing out pros and cons, limitations and cost. He was a good ambassador for Red Dagger as he patiently listened to me ramble on and helped me narrow down my selection. On the day of, Aaron warmly greeted me and showed me my custom tattoo artwork on paper. I was immediately impressed that he had hand drawn a badass custom piece that had direct influence from the reference material I provided. The drawing had intense detail and obviously took a time investment to complete. Aaron walked me to his work station, cleaned my upper right/arm/shoulder, shaved me like a skilled samurai armed with a Bic razor and applied the tattoo template. He wasn't initially pleased with the placement so he redid it until it was right. This was more corroboration to me that he was all about the details. I got to look at it in the mirror, take a before photo and send it to my wife and buddy for their final two-cents. Holy shit, this was about to happen. Aaron put on some great music, washed his hands (he was consistently sanitary) and gloved up, unwrapped his kit and started outlining my new tattoo. Ahhh, that old familiar sting. Over the next eight hours, Aaron focused like a laser beam on outlining, coloring, shading and applying coco butter to my arm. I found Aaron to be an interesting and fun person to spend time with. He is witty and has a lot of life experience for a 31 year old guy. The atmosphere as a whole was laid back, fun and full of conversation. There were two or three other customers getting ink and a few walk-ins during my stay. The employees treated me and other customers with respect and dignity. A random guy offered to get me a drink on his run to the store. He returned with a Dr. Pepper, as requested, and introduced himself as Remo. Remo is a talented portrait artist who works at Red Dagger. Check out his work and you will be impressed. As my session progressed into the night, Aaron decided he was going to need more time to finish. This was mainly due to the amount of ink required to cover the equatorial size of my upper arms, still pulsating with nutrient rich blood from my morning sesh of deadlifting Hyundai's. Fortunately, Aaron had successfully covered my old tattoo with the new art - even though it still needed some more color and finishing touches. Frankly, the tattoo looks great as-is and the areas that are sans color could easily pass for finished work. The amount of detail in my tattoo is impressive, I downright love it. I agreed to return at the end of August for a second application of ink and happily paid Aaron for services rendered. As I walked to my car, I consciously avoided eye contact with the "Foot Massage" business next door as I had given Aaron all of my money and had none left for bail. Apparently Aaron is not the only one in the building getting good internet reviews for using lotion on half-naked men ; ). When I got home, my wife and son were impressed with my new tattoo as I gave it a bath and an oh-so-light film of coco butter. Unlike my last after-care fiasco, I'm going to treat my new investment with the love and care it deserves. In closing, I had an overall great experience at Red Dagger and would like to recommend Aaron Springs to anyone who is serious about getting a unique and high-quality tattoo in a relaxed and customer service based atmosphere. read more

Just finished the first session of my tattoo here designed by Aaron Springs and I could not be happier/satisfied with the result. Highly recommend if you like that style! I had a very rough design and meaning to my tattoo idea and as this was to be my first tattoo I was a bit nervous about the whole process. I submitted my idea to Aaron. He liked the idea and we setup a consultation. Aaron was very professional and personable at the consultation giving great, honest advice and suggestions about the design. At no point did I feel like I was being pushed into a decision. I find it hard enough to express myself accurately in normal conversation let alone when talking about art but Aaron was able to capture exactly what I had in mind for the design in his own style. Putting down the deposit was super easy, got to love PayPal. My first session was scheduled for about month after my consultation, as Aaron is a popular artist but 100% worth waiting. The tattooing itself was relatively painless, far less painful than people led me to believe, and easy to sit through considering it took about 8 hours. As mentioned by other reviewers, if you are looking for a walk-in tattoo shop, maybe look somewhere else. All artists here are looking to create genuine pieces of art that both parties are proud of. I researched for awhile online before finding an artist that mastered the style I like and whose portfolio seemed to be fitting with my tattoo idea, and then decided Aaron was the person for the job. I assumed going into the consultation that there were parts of my idea that may not work as planned or could possibly be cut out because of location of the tattoo, sizing, style, readability, etc..The negative reviewers here seemed to not have realized or taken that into consideration. I am very glad at least one of the ideas I initially had was not included in the final design as it would definitely not have worked out now that the tattoo is on my arm. Red Dagger is the most professional place I have been, to have work done. All of the artists are very friendly and helpful. The location is in a very nice area and the studio itself is incredibly clean! ***It may not be the place to go if you want a mass produced and generic "flash art" tattoo, that you choose off of the wall, like a TYPICAL tattoo shop.*** Red Dagger is a CLASSY PLACE that delivers personalized art to each customer. The artists work hard to perfect the imagery the customer has in mind, and do so with their own flare. The appointment wait or deposit may seem odd to most, but in reality BOTH SHOWCASE HOW SOUGHT AFTER THESE ARTISTS ARE. If you are looking for a ONE-OF-A-KIND-MASTERPIECE ~that won't be replicated on the next walk-in-customer~ ***RED DAGGER IS WHERE YOU NEED TO GO*** I have gotten 3 tattoos from Aaron Springs and I have NEVER BEEN DISAPPOINTED! My boyfriend and I recently scheduled an appointment with Ringo. We showed up on time and immediately emailed Ringo to let him know we were there, we didn't hear back but weren't too worried. At 1:35 we spoke with another artist at the shop who said that Ringo wasnt there and had said that he didnt have any appointments. At 1:45 we were told Ringo was on his way. By 2 I was unwilling to wait any longer. We emailed Ringo asking for him to return our deposit and gave him our phone number in case he wanted to call. He called and was outraged that we hadn't waited for him to show up. He was very upset and spoke as though we hadnt just waited an hour for him to show up to an appointment he had forgotten about. He was very demeaning and incredulous at our supposed audacity. He initially spoke to my boyfriend, after I spoke with him next he made some sexist comments. We found his attitude to be so disgusting that we would be uncomfortable ever again making an appointment at the same shop. We weren't mad about the situation until Ringo was nauseatingly unprofessional and rude. He refuses to return the deposit to an appointment that he never showed up to. I've told everyone I can about this experience and how terribly impertinent and revolting Ringo's behavior is. read more

I haven't personally had any work done by any of the artist at this studio, but when I found this studio here on yelp and looked them up on Instagram I was absolutely excited and couldn't help but e-mail them to not only pay my compliments to all the artist work but get some insight on if a cover up of a tattoo of mine was possible and of course the inquiries of new tattoos. Whoever was emailing me back (unfortunately I never asked his/her name) wether they were a receptionist or artist they were very professional and friendly and did not ignore my questions, not only that they were very upfront and honest in regards to my cover up and interested in what new ink I wanted to get so they could help me pick an artist. Let me say first, the shop is so clean and professional inside and out! I just got a tattoo from Aaron Springs and I love it! I had to reschedule the appointment the first time and he was very understanding, responded quickly and I didn't lose the deposit. He told me right out that what I had in mind wasn't what he was into, directed me to other artists, but also explained what he had in mind. I was hesitant at first but he made me relax and I trusted him, especially with this impressive portfolio! He constantly made light of things especially during the sensitive areas of the tattoo. Red Dagger is hands down the best studio I have been to. The shop is incredibly clean and spacious, and the decor is awesome. Everyone there was really friendly. My tattoo was done by Steven Compton and I honestly could not be happier. He was incredibly professional from the first email I ever sent him inquiring about a consultation. Every penny I spent on my piece is quite possibly the best money I've ever spent. I will be back, and I told Compton he has a client for life now. I don't think I could go anywhere else after my experience with the shop and the artist. Red Dagger is a fantastic shop, full of incredible artists! I have (3) pieces from Andres Acosta and I just finished my 2nd session on a huge cover up with Aaron Springs. I am simply amazed at the quality of work, the atmosphere and just what a great experience you have at this shop. After sitting with these guys, I consider them not only friends, but am very happy to be carrying this artwork with me. This is one of the least professional shops I have ever been to. They have no respect for their clients time and money, and they treat their staff horribly. The owners have developed some sort of cult atmosphere within the shop which is palpably toxic even as a customer. They even illeagally fired one of their own for complications with their disability. Don't support your shop with your money. Blacklist them. Aaron and Compton do not deserve to be supported by the Houson tattoo community. read more

Red dagger is a go to place for tattoos. The staff there is very down to earth and very interactive. I've been going to Steven Compton for my dragon ball z sleeve. This guy does the best anime work in Houston! Hands down. Cool dude. My wife has been getting her work done by Aaron and he does amazing work too. The detail and shading are perfect. He has a gentle hand and I was comfortable the entire time. The shop is clean and so is his work station. I will be returning in the near future for more ink. I highly recommend Cory and his shop. I have also had a session with Ray for a cover up. He too is very talented. They both have fair pricing.

I went in with my friend to get 2 cartilage piercing and when he pierced me he didn't use a clamp…read moreand then decided to use a butterfly back instead of a flat back which for a new piercing will cause infection because it's hard to clean around it and it gives no room for swelling. I went to the tattoo shop to have someone take a look and upon farther inspection they were both pierced with a super bad angle and only one of the two piercings were salvageable. I had him re pierce the salvageable piercing with a flat back and I have to wait for the other hole to close so I can then get my other piercer to re pierce it. Really disappointed as I paid $100 for these piercing at valor which I feel is already super expensive and they didn't even know how to pierce correctly.

Store is clean,…read moreorganized, and has a billiards table in the center for friends and family to play while they wait. Fast and friendly service so I could go show them off that same night.
