They were previously enrolled in the after-school program at the elementary school, but reports from the teachers, and my sons, quickly caused us to research new options. Here is a list of requirements I used to research/decide: 1. Must be open until 6pm. I work in. DTLA so I need to be able to have time to drive back to Brea through traffic. 2. Need transportation from school to place of care. 3. Located near my house, or my daughter's pre-school, or on my way home from work. 4. Must be run and managed by adults. 5. Must be able to help w/ my sons' homework. They are in dual immersion Spanish classes and all their homework and instruction is in Spanish. 6. Must have clam, friendly, clean place to work during the time they are in care. After a week or so of researching, I had it down to the Karate Studio in Fullerton, or Optimus Learning Center, across from Best Buy off Imperial and Beach. Once I saw the space, and met Ms. Rebecca, I decided to start them the very next month. They have been attending since the beginning of Dec. 2023 and I am extremely pleased. It is double the cost of the after-school program, even with the sibling discount, but this includes the cost to transport my children from school to the center each day and monitoring the bell/pickup schedules, and there are more adults per student for additional attention and help. Pros: 1. Open until 6pm 2. Have two locations in-case I need additional care 3. Are open on teacher/holiday school closure dates 4. Emphasis is on Academics 5. Calm atmosphere 6. Kids finish all homework at the center before pickup 7. Run by respectable adults who dress professionally 8. Other children in the space are respectful and obedient Cons: 1. No outdoor play area 2. On school closure dates, the Fullerton and Brea centers merge. The Brea location is far from our house, but I am still thankful they are opened. 3. Non-school days are 9am-6pm. Our after-school care was 7am-6pm daily. 4. They don't currently have the option for auto pay, so I have to wait for a receipt and then send payment through Zelle. Not horrible, just a little work to remember since my last program was automatic. Based on my experience, I believe Optimus Learning Center is a great after school program and I hope you will check them out. They've adapted the program to assist with my sons' homework (Spanish). One other note - they also offer engaging enrichment classes, tutoring, and piano lessons. I truly feel that Optimus Learning Center offers a supportive and nurturing environment that fosters growth and success. Thank you for reading this far. So I guess this is a first person experience. Primary Source document of Yelp. The classroom was well air conditioned, and had water and tea which were provided thirsty students. It was a normal classroom, with tables, chairs, and a whiteboard. The class had about 10 kids- therefore everyone had one-on-one experience too. Even if there were more students, I'm sure Chris or whoever teaching would still do the same... they really tried their best to teach. The SAT course was 7 weeks, 3 days a week, 4 hours each day... However during the last 2-3 weeks Chris extended it to 7 hours, it was optional. But I was really happy that they always allowed me to come in on another day or stay after, if I ever needed extra help...Pretty flexible people. But we focused on Reading Comprehension, Grammar- sentence structure mostly-, Math, with Algebra, Geometry, Word problems, and Trigonometry. Also a little on ACT, but mostly SAT stuff. Worksheets were given, at times it would be done individually or with in groups, or as a class. Questions were ALWAYS answered. At the end of each week they gave a Practice test to see your progress, scores were given afterwards of course. (Since the class was long they gave breaks in between, many people went to the donut or sandwich shop nearby. I like the sandwich shop, they're really nice and family like). Well all in all, I'd definitely recommend this place to anybody willing to try and work hard, because they will do their best to help. It truly feels like a one-stop shop for both educational and extracurricular needs, with a built-in, trusted facility that gives parents so much peace of mind. I love the structure, the Korean food, and the overall environment. Nothing about the school feels low-budget -- the programs, facility, events, and daily care all feel thoughtfully planned and well-run. We've also had great luck with the teachers, who have made our experience very positive over the years. Of course, like any school, not every parent will agree on everything, and some may have complaints. But in my opinion, Dongshin has a long waitlist for a reason. The only thing I would love to see improved is offering a bit healthier breakfast and snack options, although I do appreciate that meals and snacks are even included to begin with. Overall, we've been very happy with Dongshin and are grateful for the care, structure, and community they provide.

She is in the youngest class for kids aged 2-2.5. There are about 12 students in the class with 2 teachers (6:1 ratio!), which is SO much better than the ratio we had before of 10:1 (teachers seemed overwhelmed at the previous school). Here, the teachers seem to love children and always have something specific and positive to say about my daughter. And if they do have any negative feedback, they say it in such an understanding, gentle way that is easy to receive as parents (we all know how our children can be lol but it's nice when they share it kindly). We also ran into a lot of people we know here at the school and every single person I spoke to sang PRAISES about this school and how much they love it. That says A LOT and my husband and I were reassured we made the right choice in moving my daughter here. We were SO impressed with all the hands-on activities she gets to do during the day, including weekly taekwondo to support children with their hand-eye coordination and gross motor skills, STEM days, sand play, share day, and so many other play-based activities that support their development. For Halloween, they even brought in a petting zoo, a truck/train that was driven around the school, a field trip to the fire station, and a whole barn area for the children to play in. This preschool goes above and BEYOND to love on the children and we could NOT be happier with this school! I also know their TK and Kindergarten classes are packed with students, because parents want to keep their children at Dongshin for as long as possible. I can see why! We also wanted our daughter to improve her Korean and since starting here in September, her Korean has improved SO much! And I love the Bible-based activities they do at the school - I am a firm believer our young children can learn so much about God and faith, and I can tell Dongshin operates under this same belief. At the age of 2, she even brought home an activity that showed the blood of the lamb on the door frames for when God "passed over" the Israelites' home during the final plague in Egypt. We were thinking about moving our home to be closer to my son's school but decided to stay where we're at mostly because we love this school so much and do not want to move our daughter out. It's so hard to find a trusted preschool for our precious children so we are not letting this place go until she moves onto my son's school! However, last year (2024-2025 school year) things changed. I first noticed there were some teachers that left from the previous school year, and some other "minor" changes. Most importantly, the teachers my child had were amazing for Kindergarten! There were truly awesome from the beginning to end. Unfortunately, the administrative staff did not provide the students with a Kindergarten picture and a class picture like the year prior. I personally feel those are important memories for the families and the children. Then as the school year went on, I noticed there were less activities than the prior year. Once the school year ended, MORE great and awesome teachers left the school!!!! I have prior experience working in education and from what I know and have seen, when there is so much teacher turnover year after year, it is because more than likely the administrative staff is not taking care of the teachers. This school has had a tremendous reputation for many many years, however it seems like things are on the decline and yet tuition is going up.

All the staff, teachers, and the front office have been great. You really can tell a lot when more than just your teacher knows your child's name. I feel like they do a great job keeping the facility secure. My son often eats double triple portions of the food as well. The teachers have been amazing and very patient. I know it's not easy dealing with so many young kids but My son always says he has so much fun and the teachers are really good at sending updated pictures throughout the day without ever missing so I really feel like I know what my student is doing. He's made some great friends. They also do really great events for example today was snow day and my son was so so excited. You could see all the excitement on all the kids faces . They also do a fall fair, seasonal performances, as well as farmers markets so that kids can learn how to shop , overall just a lot of thoughtfulness. Elite is known to be a extreme form of a cram school similar to that of those in Asia, to instruct children to prepare for the SAT/ACT. It's a common thing everyday to walk into this place, you'll see portraits of very few kids smiling with a list of them getting incredibly high scores, in which also show which school they are attending now, and slogans for success and information about ivy league schools. I get it, this is to show that they've had success educating kids and they're mighty fine proud of that, but let's be honest, it is a little demeaning for other students struggling to make ends meet. In fact, I've overheard a parent teacher conference with the headmaster of this place (I will not say the name for confidentiality), and believe me, I've never heard so much bad mouthing about the student behind his back, such as how he/she is going to fail school and is never going to go to a "good" (which in their level is a Ivy League) school and he'll end up getting a job after high school. In addition, when I had my child go here, the workload was just unbelievable; I don't know whose idea it was, but he/she practically made my child work 5-6 hours on SAT prep material instead of the same school work that takes my child to college (also, if he failed to bring it, he would be subjected to detention/push ups/"demerits"). What is really disturbing is that there are also video cameras in each room and monitored by the staff; I don't care if it there was a stabbing long time ago, it's pretty invasive. Speaking of colleges, these people also look down on students who have no intentions of attending either UC or Ivy Leagues, regardless of the reason. With all due respect, what I really think these people can try to improve on is their perception on reality and realize these students are just kids who are/aren't suited for the tremendous work load provided; does stuffing millions of questions and answers really help? Because I guarantee not every kid they see holds the 300 IQ they are dreaming about. Despite my tone, don't boycott or spit at the headmaster, because even I know these people are trying very hard to trickle one child to get into yale and princeton and it's really difficult to handle a bunch of kids (for the record, I was a tutor for a after school program and THAT was no easy job), especially for the headmaster, who has to deal with few troublemakers; but they should at least give a damn about those who won't make it to the big leagues or have troubles instead of berating them and casting them on the side so the vultures can pick them. Bottom line? Parents, send your children here if you truly fear that your children may not become the next CEO, doctor, lawyer, etc., because this place is the 911 for that emergency; I will not lie that these people will literally work their fingers to the bone to stuff gargantuan amounts of assignments to show to you they really mean business, and that they are probably even better than any SAT/ACT prep schools. However, be cautious, because if you know your child is already struggling with the workload he/she has from school, then plan on your own discretion.

They nickel and dime you to death. They will charge you for sneezing in the wrong place. And during the COVID crisis, they are still charging for the daycare hours. They claim to be offering instruction online, but they aren't offering daycare. It doesn't bother me as much, but we know of families with babies in room 1. The videos this place is posting don't help at all. They aren't providing their service anymore and they are not adjusting the room 1 families' tuition. That's just not right. So, we like the treatment our children received here, but I question the ethics of a place that is this much about the bottom line.
