I have been attending Gestalt Tutoring, since I was in the middle of third grade and now I am a freshman in high school. When I first attended Gestalt, it was a small tutoring center located at Mrs. Jen's house. As a young and naive kid, I hated anything related to school work. When my mom told me I had to go to a tutoring establishment, I was infuriated at the fact that I had to put more time into learning. However, over the years I have realized that Gestalt was more than just a tutoring center. It was a place where students can go and learn in a comfortable environment, and establish new relationships with other students. I have stayed numerous hours at Gestalt to study for tests. I can recall many days in which I have stayed long hours studying for tests, and with their help I received an "A". Mrs. Jen and Mr. Avila are always there for any problems I have faced. I consider both of them as my second family. I can go to Mrs. Jen with any problems I face in my school work as well as my social life. She has helped me through rigorous academic courses, providing multiple practice test, as well as her own knowledge. Mr. Avila has been a major role model to me, and the first day that I met Mr. Avila we had an instant connection. We were both athletes and loved to play sports. Mr. Avila has been my main motivation in my school work and sports. His dedication to his work and his compassion to his students has inspired me. They both have been very important figures in my life, and they have sacrificed their time in making sure that I will be successful. As a parent, I found BLC a few years ago when my step-daughter was at-risk of failing high school (her overall GPA was 0.9). She's a VERY bright girl that had gotten seriously off-track and I was desperate to help her. It's the end of the year and I am finally able to get around to write a review for Breakthrough. At the beginning of school year, I sent both of my kids to Breakthrough to get some help with their common core math and homework because they were struggling. My old school way of teaching my kids was confusing them as they were learning something new and different in school in order to solve their problems. Mr. Avila was able to explain the concepts the way the teacher was trying to explain my boy. Now that we are at the end of the school year, I cannot believe how much my kids have changed from the start of the year. Their grades improved along with their confidence. My boy would come home happy with his A's on his test. Even Mrs. Jen helped my son write a book ! I can see that the instructors at Breakthrough, especially Mrs. Jen and Mr. Avila, not only provide my kids with answers to their questions and lessons to teach them, but they also mentored my kids. I am forever more thankful and appreciative of the heart that Mr. Jen and Mr. Avila have for my kids. I plan to continue the kids for their summer program and for future years. I've been going to Breakthrough since my freshman year of high school; so basically my entire high school career. Before I went to Breakthrough, I pursued several different tutoring centers. However, none of them had what Breakthrough had. Breakthrough made me feel like family and accommodated to my every need. Every instructor at Breakthrough is so patient and knowledge and they do go the extra mile to make sure their students feel fully confident in what they are learning in school. My grades improved significantly after I began attending Breakthrough. They really do help and I couldn't recommend any place better to help someone grow intellectually. I have been going to breakthrough ever since I was in 6th grade. I am now graduating high school and attending University of California, Irvine as a Mechanical Engineer. I can honestly say that without Ms. Jen, Mr. Avila, Mr. Rob, Mr. Kim, and all the other tutors, I would not have been able to succeed in school. BLC is not the ordinary "learning institution" that just teaches its students what they need help in. They genuinely care for us and make it feel like a family. I've built so many strong relationships here that it will feel weird not coming here every Mondays and Wednesdays for help when I leave for college. Along with the welcoming environment, the tutors here are very qualified. Over the years here, I've been tutored in AP Calculus, AP Physics, AP Literature, AP Human Geography, SAT, ACT, and many other rigorous college courses. I have been a student at BLC since 5th grade and I am now going into my junior year of high school. Mrs. Jen and Mr. Avila have been there for me through everything and are always there to offer me advice and guidance through all of my decisions whether it is academic or not. Mrs. Jen, Mr. Avila, and all the other tutors have created an amazing tutoring center that makes me and other students feel like family and will help us with our every need. Even in the time of COVID-19, which was stressful as is, they never failed to give us the support we needed through Zoom sessions to get through distance learning. Even after the Zoom sessions, the instructors always responded to my emails promptly throughout the week if I had any questions on any of my homework at home. The instructors at BLC truly care about how their student is doing individually and will do everything to make sure that they are getting the proper support they need. I went to Breakthrough throughout my childhood from when it started with Mr. Avila and Mrs. Jen at the house. I remember walking into Mrs. Jen's house, feeling nervous and scared, wondering what to expect. From the first session and on, I noticed that I became more motivated in my studies and wanting to do more for myself than I realized I could. I began to study more, took all AP classes, and decided that I wanted to be a math major by the end of high school. I really had no direction, but having my small talks with Mr. Avila and Mrs. Jen really allowed me to explore myself and see what the future entailed for me. Mr. Avila made me realize how much I enjoyed math and how I continued to excel in learning these topics as I took my college courses. It was during college where I saw how much of an impact that Breakthrough had in my life. My children have been going to Breakthrough since 2016 and it has been a rewarding learning experience for them. They started at Kindergarten and 2nd grade with Mrs. Jen and Mr. Avila. Referred to me by a few friends and thought it would be great to have extra supplemental learning. The environment is very supportive in every aspect you can think of that is essential for a child's development. Conversations with Mrs. Jen helped me to understand how she incorporates a psychological perspective when creating curriculums and working with students. My kids go there afterschool, complete their homework assignments, and when they are complete there is an individualized curriculum that is made specifically for my kids' weaknesses. For the most part, my kids have enjoyed their instructors and communication is available when I have questions about their curriculum or the instructor. My experience here was nothing but a pleasure and great life learning experience. The instructors here helped me with school and kept my grades strong. One thing I appreciated from this learning center unlike others was their proactive efforts towards creating a future for myself. I went to Breakthrough Learning Center throughout high school. The best part about my experience here with Mrs. Jen and Mr. Avila was that they worked patiently with me to find my weakness and explore methods that worked best for me.
