Breakthrough Learning Center is a great place where students can ask for help on their homework, get ahead in their classes, and interact with classmates outside of the school. Mrs. Jen, Mr. Avila, Mr. Rob, and other instructors have several years of experience in education. With these experiences, the curriculum is catered to each individual student for them to succeed. We have access to textbooks that students are using in their classes and problem sets for extra work. Furthermore, when a student is completely confidence in concepts that they are learning in school, the instructors help the student move ahead onto the next lesson. Education at BLC is not only about learning concepts taught in books; it is also about networking, communicating, and forming relationships with peers. I have never seen so many students come in with excitement to work and learn. Part of this is due to the relationships that they form with the instructors and classmates. In addition, older students often act as peer mentors to younger students. Not only are each person care for by BLC instructors, they are also cared for by their peers. Success is not only getting A's on their coursework, it is also through their confidence in themselves. All the instructors give their time to not only help with schoolwork, but to personally interact with each student. My review is 7 years late. Our twins were just 6 when I looked into BLC. I enrolled them into in the 4 hour BLC summer, morning program. They were put into a mixed group and given work; entries to read, analyze, and then write about. The reason for my review all these years later is to share that as a mother who wanted to afford my children stimulation for growth, BLC is NOT a fit for younger children. This program is for older kids. Jennifer Dinh-Avila either had no understanding of what her program is capable of offering or didn't care. She should have. I too as their caregiver shouldn't have been fooled by her reports and feedback. How can a 6 y/o child sit and learn for hours on end? The motivation for this review years later is to save a child(ren) , a mother, a family from the mistake I made. Please notice, the pictures and testimonials are from older children. Went to BLC many years ago when it just started to get help with Geometry from Mr. Avila and it was great experience. He helped me with my homework and taught me concepts I didn't understand from school. Along with that, he prepared me for quizzes and exams by providing extra practice- even practice he created himself so it would coincide with my teacher's testing. Now I am taking my nephews to Breakthrough and they are enjoying and thriving in their academics. They have been going the last two years, now in 3rd and 6th grade. They do their homework there and some supplemental work to advance in both their math and writing skills. When I talk to them about, they only have positive things to say about their teachers. Environment is great for all levels and it seems like Mrs. Jen, the director, is very involved with their curriculums and providing extra support for the kids. I know that when I needed extra help back then, Mr. Avila and Mrs. Jen always took extra time to help me succeed in my classes. Definitely recommend Breakthrough to other families. read more

Not happy with the tutors. My child needed help with chemistry and Breakthrough was not able to deliver. It seemed that one of the tutors was not qualified to teach the essential concepts of the subject and left my child suffering without understanding the specific subject matter. This was mentioned to Jennifer, but nothing was done. I think Jennifer was too interested in collecting the $$$ money. She is running this place like a business instead of an academic center of actually understanding the issues students are having and trying to solve them. I honestly feel ripped off! read more

I have been going to Breakthrough Learning Center for about two years now and I can confidently say that my grades and comprehension of the school's curriculum has been more successful than ever. Whether it's math, physics, writing essays, SAT prep, or many other subjects, the tutors at Breakthrough have been truly amazing. My grades have significantly improved since I have been going to Ms. Jen and Mr. Avila. They are such hard working people with the intention to make you succeed! I have learned so many life lessons that I will hold forever. Aside from school, emotionally, Ms. Jen has always been there for me. From high school stress, to the college application process, and even the typical high school drama, she is always there to give me support and advice. I have been attending BLC since 7th grade, and I am now going into my senior year of high school. Throughout the years, not only have the tutors helped me with school work, but also getting ahead in classes, improving my writing skills, standardized test preparation, and so much more. It is a great learning environment where everyone helps each other out- we are one big family. Throughout my experience they have shown nothing but compassion, generosity, and understanding. Every tutor, staff member, and most importantly, Mr Avila and Mrs. Jen, have all displayed their expertise and how kind they are to each and every student, and nothing can describe how truly special Breakthrough Learning Center is. BLC has consistently provided all the materials and help I needed, whenever I needed it. I've been going to BLC my entire high school career and I can honestly say that it is like no other learning institution. I cannot express enough the extent to which the staff cater to each student. Mr. Avila, Ms. Jen, and all of the instructors truly make all of their students feel like part of a family, which creates a hospitable environment conducive learning. Not only do they provide me with the necessary help for all of my classes, but they also offer preparation for tests such as the ACT, the SAT, AP, and IB. I am currently a senior IB student at Valencia High School on the way to studying neuroscience at the University of California Riverside. I have been going to Breakthrough Learning Center since I was about 6 years old. They started out as a small business located in a house where I was able to do my homework, and learn new material in the summer to prepare myself for the upcoming school year. A few years later they moved their home business to a facility to gain more students and a larger space to work. Not only is the staff and owners some of the nicest people you will ever meet, but they also have pure intentions and goals of creating a safe learning environment and they highly focus on helping students achieve their academic goals. With Mrs. Jen and Mr. Avila's guidance, both my older brothers and I were fortunate enough to gain admission into the University of Southern California. I thank their facility for instilling so much knowledge not only in my academic career, but teaching me about the world as well. I have grown extremely close with the family who operates the facility, and would suggest every student who would like to turn their struggles into successes become part of this tutoring center. I have been to many tutoring locations throughout Yorba Linda and Brea, and I can say that I am pleased with Breakthrough Learning Center. The main instructors are the owners and you rarely find that in most tutoring locations. With that being said, the instructors at Breakthrough understand what each student needs in order to succeed in their schooling because they are involved in teaching their students. Ms. Jennifer and the Breakthrough instructors understand the Common Core curriculums at school along with what is to come in the future years for students. They will provide homework help, review and correct homework assignments, and provide practice to reinforce the concept. Breakthrough is a great example of how learning is more than a transfer of knowledge. When I came to Breakthrough 3 years ago, I thought I was going there just to get help in math and studying for the SAT and ACT, but I gained knowledge outside of those subjects. Breakthrough opened my mind both academically and socially. They taught me items that I still carry along with me as a college student. Breakthrough feels like a second home because the instuctors want only want the best from their students which creates a family environment. I've been going to Breakthrough since my freshman year of high school; so basically my entire high school career. Before I went to Breakthrough, I pursued several different tutoring centers. However, none of them had what Breakthrough had. Breakthrough made me feel like family and accommodated to my every need. Every instructor at Breakthrough is so patient and knowledge and they do go the extra mile to make sure their students feel fully confident in what they are learning in school. My grades improved significantly after I began attending Breakthrough. They really do help and I couldn't recommend any place better to help someone grow intellectually. Aside from school, Breakthrough also helped me expand my horizons and grow as a person. After tutoring for BLC, I've learned that in many cases students don't have the time to dedicate to the work in front of them. Daily extracurricular activities, stress from college applications, and life outside the classroom are ways in which students can get distracted from what's important. As a former tutor of BLC, our main objective was to help students focus on what is important. Jennifer and Ivan's years of experience have allowed them to easily determine each student's weakness in challenging subject areas. Each tutor has a set of standards by grade level and subject that they are tasked to accomplish throughout the student's time in BLC. I guess that's what separates BLC from other tutoring centers. I began my tutoring sessions with BLC the summer before my freshman year of high school, and I immediately noticed that the instructors were able to explain challenging topics far better than some of my actual teachers could.
