The starter salad presentation with the thin bread crouton added the right bit of crunch and the seafood was tasty but a tad salty to my American tastebuds but good. We came to Gothenburg for a Volvo Overseas delivery and they treated us to a dinner at Heaven 23. I loved their apple juice drink over ice. I really enjoyed the lemon sole, but my husband wasn't a fan. The deep-fried sweetmeats were also very good. I wish we could have tried the shrimp sandwich. They are famous for their shrimp sandwiches and that is what I had the last visit. It was just as delicious as the last visit. The view is also a draw...of the city day or night it is spectacular. The bar is also a "scene" if you are a tourist or attending a conference...to mingle and people watch as well as look out the windows. The dinner menu is ok, but I think you can find just as good or better fine dining for dinner. The occasion for our visit was to see Star Wars, the rise of Skywalker, and celebrate my birthday which I enjoyed. For those staying at the Gothia Tower you must at least ride the elevator and take a drink. This is where the conference for books, horses, home construction, weddings, boats, take place...there is a world trade center office in the complex and it is across the street from the amusement park Liseberg. read more

One of the famous restaurants in Gothenburg, been open for a very long time. The restaurant is located on top of the Gothia Towers, hence the name. It offers a great view of Gothenburg, but it is really hard to appreciate in the dark. I was able to find a table on Tuesday night, but this was not easy as estuarine was full. The restaurant offers good wine list, with an excellent selection of Austrian wines. I had a glass of outstanding Sauvignon Blanc, and a very good glass of Zweigelt Rosè (wine as over-chilled). One of the most famous dishes in the restaurant is King Size Shrimp Sandwich. You get a large flat piece of bread (similar to pita), with the boiled egg in a middle, covered, really topped off with a small amount of very small shrimp. At around $32, this is one of the most affordable dishes you can get at a restaurant, and I can tell you that every table around me was having this exact dish, with for instance 8 people at the table, all eating the same exact sandwiches. The sandwich tasted okay, nothing amazing. Was there a lot of shrimp? Yes. Was there enough shrimp for $32? I guess yes. Is that a dish I want to eat again or would recommend? Absolutely not. But again, the wines were good. During summer, the view might make it worthwhile to suffer through that sandwich with a glass of nice Austrian wine in hand. During winter, when you can't enjoy the view? Not so much. read more

They say "perhaps the best shrimp in the world" on this web page: https://gothiatowers.com/ata/kingsize/ I found the shrimp to be rubbery in texture, watered down in flavor, and small in size. I did not taste the flavors that I usually experience with good shrimp. I explained this to the staff, and I was told "sorry, but everyone thinks differently." There was no attempt to offer a resolution. Buyer beware. I am giving them three stars, because I did enjoy the roasted celeriac and my companion enjoyed his steak. Place was packed, was told no tables were available and to sit by window (and I would be called); waited 40 minutes, nothing, zero. It was only me (party of one) - definetly made to feel unwelcome. Might be a great place for a party of a few, but it seemed quite obvious that serving just one person was of no interest. I wish they would have just said that up front, instead of pushing me off to sit on a mat by window for 40 mins before giving up and leaving. I did notice that they noticed me leaving, and didn't lift a finger to inquire why... struck me as standard practice. Sad, looks like it might be a nice place. This is the top floor bar in the hotel Gothia Towers. I enjoy going here for a drink - just for the view! Or even just for the glass elevator taking me up to Heaven 23!! Weeeh! Everyone says their shrimp sandwich is the best in town- I wouldn't know, I do not eat shrimps. But it looks huge! at SEK 170 something. They have a huge selection of Austrian wine! I went to Heaven 23 on the recommendation of a friend who insisted I try their famous shrimp sandwich. The sandwich itself was pretty good--shrimp well-cooked and not too salty, good bread, crisp veggies, etc.--but the restaurant itself was the main attraction. Almost every table provides a fantastic view of Gothenburg from the Gothia Towers' 23rd floor, and the staff seemed more than happy to accommodate guests who lingered to enjoy the vista and take photos. We were staying in Gothenburg over the summer and on one of our last nights there, we decided to go to the prominent Gothia Towers for a drink after dinner. We sat at the bar in Heaven 23 and had a glass of wine each, while we were sat there we looked through the drink menu and they had an extensive list of drinks! All the ingredients were listed and it was quite fun to watch the bartenders make these unique drinks. Everything was reasonable considering they were specialty cocktails, about $12-$15 each, wine between $10-$15 a glass. After a long week in the Gothenburg archipelago we headed for a hotel weekend in the city taking up residence at the beautiful Gothia Towers Hotel. With quite tired kids in our wake we settled for dinner at one of the restaurants at the hotel, in more detail Heaven 23 with an amazing view over Gothenburg city. Unfortunately, that's about the only amazing thing about it. The dining area has a great and classic design with a modern and contemporary feel, but the food doesn't deliver even in the slightest. Stayed away from wines this evening so can't really say much about it. But their wine-collection looked both interesting and well-stocked. Ordered a rib-eye filet that was served with some fried mushrooms, roasted potatoes, cherry tomatoes, and red wine sauce. My wife and eldest son had the same while our daughter had braised pork cheek. Ordered my rib-eye rare but came out more medium-well, while my son and wife ordered medium and received well-done. Really bad. Also almost no seasoning on the meat, and as a whole the plate of food was underwhelming at best. My daughter's pork cheek was nice in color and taste, but not worth the money. This, coupled with the fact that it's extremely overpriced in relation to what you receive this is a place neither worth the time or the view. My recommendation? Stay away. read more
