From the…read morebeginning their service was lax, we had to pay for the ambulance transfer initially since my mother in law is bed bound. The HHA care was acceptable, the nurse care met and exceeded expectations, the problem was when my mother in law got a UTI. My mother in law became very lethargic, and would not swallow the antibiotics, I had to send her to the hospital, something that was a no-no to Continuum, they would not allow the hospital to give her intravenous antibiotic. They threatened not to take her back, they would have rather have her die of a simple UTI. Beware of this company.

There was never a time that they weren't available if and when we needed anything. The nurses that we interacted with were some of the most compassionate people I've ever met. Especially Barbara and Rosemarie... they have equally lovely aids who kept my mother comfortable and cared for... I'll never forget you Junie, I can't thank you all enough for the love you showed all of us. They were very knowledgeable and great at their jobs. And on top of that they had a music team that they sent to bring music to your loved one...Allison was simply amazing she came and sang all my of mom's favorites and not once but 3 times before momma went to be with Jesus and not just for 15,20 min but over an hour every time. She and my mom made a special connection that I'll never forget. I think my mom thought she was a family member at first and Allison just began to act like she was and loved on my momma and let my momma love on her...I hope I haven't left out anything but if i did believe me it was all good. I praise the lord for letting us find Continum...I believe that they are storing up blessings in heaven.

The aides they employ are the laziest people I have ever seen. They don't want to do anything other than give people a sponge bath and leave them in bed. Maybe sit with & read to them. The person below mentioned shaving. The aides they sent to my dad claimed that the didn't know how to shave a man's face. They acted like (No, stated) that asking them to help my mom get my dad dressed and transfer him 2' to his chair was more work than they usually do. Forget needing them to help get him to the shower. My dad enjoys getting a real shower, Not a wipe off while he lays in bed. Yes he is slow. Yes he needs help getting there. The handicap shower is upstairs, but there is a wheelchair both downstairs and upstairs, and a stairlift to go up. We only take him if he is having a really good day. We prefer to use a walker and have 2 people to walk with him. But the wheel chairs are fine to use if they feel safer. Before he went on hospice he could walk the distance most days. But they NEVER wanted to even get him out of bed! Every time my mom asked them help to do that the helpers would decide that they didn't want to come back. They would show up only when the felt like it, and they would never tell her a time, nor if they weren't coming, that day. Often they didn't show up for days at a time. The first day: the lady showed at at 3 in the afternoon. Without notice. When she got there he was up & dressed, 1/2 way between lunch & dinner. There wasn't much for her to do because - We didn't know that she was coming. I told her "I am so glad that you are here." explaining that I live in Texas and was already supposed to have gone back home. I wanted to help my mom get set up with some help before I left. So what did she do? As soon as she left she called and told them that my dad didn't need her 5 days a week and cut her time down to 3 days. Then... no one showed up 1/2 the time. They sent someone else, who was impatient over letting my dad slowly do what he could. Like buttoning his shirt. She wanted to rush and do it for him. When she found out about the bath thing she decided that my dad needed a man. Forget that my mother has been caring for him on her own. Taking him to the shower on her own. It was too much for a health aide to HELP with. My mom will stay there every step of the way because she knows how to talk to him and what he is capable of. He can wash his own hair, but the aid didn't want to wait while he did that simple thing for himself. What happened to allowing a person some dignity? With Alzheimer's he needs to do as many things as he is able to, or he will digress quickly. A 2nd person to make sure that he doesn't fall is really nice. If that person actually cared about the person who they were supposed to be helping they wouldn't act like everything is too much work. From that point on my mom never knew when or if someone was going to show up to help, or not. They kept telling her that they were trying to get a man out to help him because the women apparently didn't feel comfortable helping to get him out of the bed. Before we started with Catholic Hospice his bed was upstairs and most days we got him up, dressed, and walked him to the stairway, took the lift down and walked him to his chair. Many days my mom did this alone! But they wanted just let him languish in the hospital bed as he got weaker and weaker. Over a month in their care and they couldn't get the promised physical therapy out there even once. The day they set an appointment for someone to finally come out, they never showed up. When my mom called she was told they had discharged my dad from their care. But they didn't even bother to tell my mom. If you can't help someone transfer 2' to a chair then you are in the wrong business! If you believe that your job is to let someone, who wants to get up, languish in a bed simply because their days are numbered - Then you are in the wrong business! All the supplies they sent were the cheapest brands available. And it would take weeks to get things that my dad needed. They couldn't seem to get the correct catheters. He needs closed complete kits over a month later my mom was still fighting with them to get the right ones. She couldn't even order them herself because "hospice has to do it." The bed they sent! Horrible! You could feel the springs thru the mattress. I could go on and on, but character limit! If you are looking to leave your loved one in bed all the time and hurry them along. Or maybe if your loved one only needs a sponge bath and spoon fed and that is all you expect - I guess this is the company for you. If you want a decent quality of life, to get shaved, a shower, out of bed, get physical therapy, bed pads that don't fall apart... RUN elsewhere

He was 85, the bleeding in his brain continued till he dies 9 days later. Catholic hospice and three other companies came to the hospital about providing hospice care. Catholic hospice was the only company that addressed the concerns of the family. They delivered a hospital bed, had a nurse there waiting at the ready, and transported him to his home via ambulance. The nurses were above and beyond. They were with him 24 hours a day, making sure he was comfortable, clean, and shaved. The family took turns at his side. It takes a special sort of person to care for someone when they are dying. What impressed me the most was not how easily their service facilitated all aspects of care, it was that EVERY NURSE was amazing. Every night nurse and every day nurse. When he passed 9 days after the stroke, he did so to the family and the night nurse praying over him and singing. It was surprising in great ways. The care he received far exceeded any expectation the family.

The staff were full of empathy and attentive at all times. Each of the sixteen rooms were full suites with private bathrooms with chairs that pull out to sleeping quarters for guests. There are a few other Vitas hospice locations in Broward County. The visitation policy is 24/7 with a multi purpose guest lounge. A clean facility with wonderful staff. I hope it is still in business when I need it. FYI: The staff loves donuts.

The two ladies at the counter were relaxed and directed me to the waiting room to be assigned a registered nurse that will be caring for my ailing mother. The nurse was sympathetic for my families situation then followed her to my mother's room. The room was large with a window for light and a private bathroom. They gave us unlimited access to her room and can stay through the night. The nurse sits in the hallway and her sole job is to keep my mother comfortable and calm. The several days here were fabulous and the nurses were pure saints. All paid for by Medicare too.

Annabel is a very caring professional. She exudes happiness and helped to cheer me up which, I think, helped me to heal. Always helping me with my needs even in the middle of the night and with a smile on her face. I also had a wonderful experience with Thaura Abdalia for several months. Thaura, also very professional and helpful and she is a gentle soul. Always willing to do whatever I asked to be helpful to me. Easy to talk to and my little dog picked up her good vibes and like to hang out by her, she'd get excited to see her when she arrived. I only saw Elizabeth Cruz for three days but I liked her immediately. Also very professional, and couldn't do enough to make sure my every need was taken care of. I would recommend any of these ladies, they would not disappoint. Granniesnannies apparently hires only the best. The company itself needs a little revamping of organizational skills and better technology to track things. This is the reason I gave only 4 stars. The caretakers would get 5 stars.
