1 Star - Would Give Zero If I Could…read more I had an awful experience at Hoag Medical Group Laguna Beach Family Medicine. I came in urgently needing a same-day chest X-ray after a positive skin TB test. Before going in, I asked very clearly about their X-ray process and was assured multiple times that they could do it same day with same-day results. That turned out to be completely untrue. Because of the misinformation from the front desk--who clearly did not listen to anything I asked--I ended up waiting an extra day for a time-sensitive test required for my work. I was misled about their protocol, given incorrect answers, and treated like my questions were an inconvenience instead of important medical concerns. Then I was told I had to see a doctor before getting the X-ray, which led me to Dr. Mina Abazari. That visit was just as disappointing. She told me her assistants would "pull her out of the room" because she only had a limited amount of time with me--an incredibly unsettling thing to hear when you're there for something urgent. The whole appointment felt rushed, dismissive, and unhelpful. To make matters worse, when I asked for a referral to a cardiology specialist for preventative reasons, she discouraged it and essentially told me I didn't need one. It's honestly shocking in 2025 to encounter a physician who minimizes preventative medicine. The mindset felt outdated and completely out of touch. Will the times ever change? Here's the real kicker: after losing a full day because of Hoag's misinformation, I ended up going to Surfside Urgent Care--and they completed a chest X-ray and gave me results within an hour. Quick, clear, efficient, and zero runaround. I wish I had gone there in the first place instead of wasting time waiting to see a physician at Hoag. I'll be going to Surfside for all my future needs. Bottom line: I came for answers and left with delays, misinformation, frustration, and no sense of being heard or cared for. If you value communication, timely care, and a provider who actually listens, I would avoid this place.

She told me I needed to leave my home because of the mold. Money was an issue with me at the time, obviously, and I was in absolute tears. Her only response was to quickly try to schedule AND CHARGE $$$$$ me for another appointment to discuss how we would deal the mold issue. No compassion at all for the situation I was in. About a month later, she sent out a letter to her patients saying she was "retiring". An ethical doctor would probably stop taking new patients if they were getting ready to retire. Why would you take on new patients if you knew you would not see them through the process of getting better? Then a couple months later she sent another email to her patients saying she wasn't going to retire, but was joining another practice. Something is just not right here. I am now seeing a functional medicine doctor in Montana that is wonderful and not money driven. A PIECE OF ADVICE FOR EVERYONE, YOU DON'T NEED TO SEE A FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE DOCTOR BASED IN OC. YOU CAN SEE MOST FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE DOCTORS VIRTUALLY AND I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND FINDING A DOCTOR OUTSIDE OF OC. The worst part is I just received a lab bill for $2500 that I never authorized almost one year after I stopped seeing her. I called her to try and help me rectify the bill and her new receptionist told me it was my problem. JUST TO CLARIFY READING HER RESPONSE. THESE ARE THE TESTS SHE RECOMMENDED AND ORDERED. NO TEST SHOULD HAVE BEEN OVER $500. SHE SENT ME TO THESE LABS. BE VERY CAREFUL OF HER "3RD PARTY CHARGES". I can understand how frustrating it is when labs send surprise charges, which is why I always recommend that patients try to find out from Quest and all other labs up front what all their charges will be. I never want anyone to experience the stress of unexpected charges. The $2500 bill was not from our office; it was from a lab where this patient chose to get testing done. The payments are handled by the lab and not by my office, so I'm sorry that I'm not able to help with 3rd party charges.
