I was surprised to not see any Yelp reviews and was told that she had been working off of word-of-mouth referrals alone for the last few years. I was seeking a natural remedy without side effects and so decided to try her service given the strong recommendation I had received. She is a remote service that comes to you. Which was very convenient for me since I am always on the go for my work and my spare time is erratic at best. I had been prescribed anticoagulants to thin my blood due to Thrombosis. This caused swelling and other side effects. I also suffer from high blood pressure and was told this could have a strong benefit in treating this ailment as well. After the first few treatments, I was elated that my lab tests showed a marked improvement in thinning my blood to prevent blood clots and was able to throw my pills away. My blood pressure went down to a manageable rate and I am weaning off of the pills that Doctor's told me I would have to use for the rest of my life. This has also changed my love life for the better, as well since my high blood pressure meds were causing other issues there. Rossi's therapy has given me a new lease on quality of life. This office is a great option if you are not wanting to bill insurance. Practitioner knowledge and results from my assessment continue to be positive. While I continue to have decent results from the assessment and recommendation of Dr Valenzuela, it was the office experience related to billing that garnered this not so fab review. I was a cash patient recommended to her office by another practitioner. I needed the superbill with the Dx codes on it to submit to my insurance company for reimbursement as this office doesn't work directly with insurance. I have asked for this code on the receipt from my last visit three times now since mid December and received no reply. At one point, I was told by Dr Emily that if I book my appts, the DX code isn't on the superbill, but if she books it, it is. Why is their a "book online" option on their website if she wants to book the appts? Furthermore, I paid her over $400 and am only asking for a Dx code for the last visit. It takes less than 5 minutes to add this to the superbill! Her last reply to me is and I quote. "We are a cash base business, because what we do in our clinic is generally not covered by insurance. So sorry we couldn't be of more help. The best thing I can do in the future is recommend getting an HSA insurance plan. You put money into an account that you can use for services such as mine or your chiropractor and then your insurance premiums are lower. Good luck" The HSA is a great suggestion but not attainable for me at this time. I did end up getting partial reimbursement for the initial visit from my insurance, and I know others who have these services covered by their insurance, they just have to bill and need the Dx code! Not a big ask when you are charging $225 for the initial visit and $90 for follow ups! Sheesh! I have since found another practitioner who does what this office does and does bill insurance and is super easy to work with. As sad as it is for me to give this review, the lack of response from Dr Emily speaks for itself.

However I had never really honed in on my thyroid health and fertility and wanted to prior to conceiving as I was anxious that it would be impossible to get pregnant due to my diagnosis, or would take longer than most. I also knew that if I was to become pregnant, my risk of miscarriage was much higher. Therefore both my husband and I started to see Emily regularly about 8 months prior to when we wanted to start trying. She took me through the CellCore supplement program where I detoxed from heavy metals, parasites, viruses (all big triggers for autoimmune disease) and more, and additionally worked on my thryoid and adrenals with acupuncture. Within a few months I started to feel huge changes, my skin cleared up, my hair stopped falling out, my brain fog had dissipated and I felt so good and really prepared to try for a baby. After a very brief appointment -- approximately five minutes -- during which Compound W was applied to treat a wart, our insurance was billed and paid the adjusted charges. We were then charged additional out-of-pocket fees on top of that. At the office's direction, we contacted their billing department to dispute the remaining balance due to the minimal nature of the treatment provided. Unfortunately, the charges were not adjusted. We understand healthcare has costs, and we respect medical professionals' time and expertise. However, we believe billing should be reasonable and proportionate to the services rendered. Because of this experience, we've decided to seek care elsewhere. We're sharing this so other families can be informed and ask detailed questions about treatment and billing upfront.

But now, to be able to continue to receive the same service I have been getting and expecting for my family, I have to pay an administrative fee of $150-$250 a year (depending on the number of kids that you have). See the attached photo straight from their check-in portal. Otherwise they will charge you for every non-medical service that isn't covered by insurance - such as a call from your doctor about lab results, a vaccination record for your child or a medication refill over the phone. I am shocked and utterly horrified. It's bad enough that our insurance companies rip us off left and right with high premiums, deductibles, and copays, but now my provider is charging administrative fees!?!?? Their excuse - the insurance companies don't compensate us enough so we need the patients to cough it up. Food, housing, clothing, medicine costs have all increased and people are barely making ends meet these days. Incomes have not increased, but the cost of living has. And now, my pediatricians office wants to make more money by charging for simple things that should be included in the overall care my child receives. Sure, I can opt-out...but then what are you going to charge me for? What non-medical charges will I now expect to see on my bill? I called for a refill...how much do you charge for that? I asked for a note for my child's school....how much do you charge for that? These are not things that should ever be something a parent worries about. We have enough worries about our children and putting food on the table. Now I have to have anxiety about more mystery charges appearing on a bill? There was no prior warning about this...no emails that went out to parents and patients, no update on the website...this appeared as I was trying to do a check for my child for their appointment. There is minimal transparency about what you are charging for these non-medical services. I want no part of being at a place that does something like this. I will need to find a new office now...this is so unethical. How many more patients do you think you will lose because of this? I have never been at an office that has ever done this. What are you going to start charging for next??? How sad...customer care and service is now a money making business at Mia Bella Pediatrics.
