His work was excellent and the repairs held for years. However, being the over achiever that I am I snapped the rotator cuff again in 23 (I am hard on my body) and he had to go back in. Long before we did any work, he did try non interventional therapy but my damage was too extensive. The third surgery the damage to my rotator cuff was so great that it could not be reattached. His advice was that I would need a complete replacement where the ball and socket are reversed. BUT, most importantly, he told me to wait at least 5 years. He gave me solid reasons and I have waited and with no pain mind you. Well, as I have taken up blacksmithing, I am at that place where that shoulder will need to be replaced. Let me tell you that I am going BACK to Eppley. I like him, I trust him and he has done thousands of these. You don't want the guy who has done a dozen. You want the guy who has done 25,000. On top of all this he is a nice guy and approachable. His knowledge is impeccable. He is a good Doctor and I am not one to be in awe of Doctors. I have worked with them daily for the last 30 years as a Pharma rep. I can tell the good from the bad and the good from the great. He falls into great. That's why I will be calling him next week to start the evaluation process for my shoulder. You all must understand the surgical outcomes can be affected by many factors. Many of them patient induced or just plain old back luck. Orthos by nature are problem solvers. They see an issue and fix it. If you have bad posture or poor body mechanics or any number of other factors the failure is on you. Discuss and fix that stuff with your PT's and treat PT like a job. I trust Dr. Eppley enough to replace that shoulder and to do it properly. The ultimate outcome will be up to me and how well I follow instructions. Medicine is filled with risk. No two humans are exactly alike. Epply is a guy I trust to work around issues. That's why I am going back to him without hesitation. If an issue arises, him and I will face it together. I have zero hesitation on this one. You should feel the same.

Very responsive to calls/texts/emails, even on weekends. We have limited interaction with the other doctors here, but they seemed equally good. And the support staff is top-notch, with a first-rate nursing team and office administrators. When a referral is appropriate, they are knowledgeable about the experts in the area and can give first rate recommendations (e.g., cardiology, dermatology, EN&T, etc.), and they follow up with them. To give one example of the pro-active and thoughtful actions of this office, when the first Covid vaccines were available in 2020, they organized a "drive-through" for injections in the Lafayette school parking lot for patients and others in the community. It was a huge undertaking but an incredible success, and I am sure that many were able to avoid the consequences of this terrible disease.

The dr. knew nothing of his medical history or why he was paralyzed, but told me to be quiet, which I did. Hearing the history might have helped him diagnose, but he didn't want to hear it. He then had to take a lengthy break to ask his associate for a "pep talk" (to quote him). When he returned he asked my husband a couple fairly irrelevant questions. He told the dr. to talk with me because I was more familiar with the details as he had been semi comatose for 2 months while in the hospital and it would be more efficient to get the information from me. The dr. replied that there are some patients he just couldn't deal with (??) and we should leave. He added that he just couldn't deal with the "back and forth". Neither of us have any idea what he found so hard to deal with or what "back and forth" he was talking about--other than that each of us had spoken briefly at some point in response to a query from him. I then said it had been quite a long trip to see him and a lot of trouble to bring a wheel chair bound patient and asked him about the Hippocratic oath he had taken. He lied about the contents of the oath (I was referring to his duty to help those who are sick and seek his help) and said the oath told him to tell the truth and he was doing that. I looked it up and it doesn't say anything of the kind. In any case, his behavior was bizarre. He was attempting to gain information, which my husband was supplying, and which I added to briefly, but agreed to be silent when asked, although I could have answered his questions quickly and succinctly so that we could proceed with a diagnosis. No other dr. has objected to this. In fact, I have been routinely complimented on my succinct and accurate presentation of his very complicated medical history, and I was quiet after he silenced me for the one sentence I spoke when my husband couldn't answer the question. Patients are encouraged to bring a family member to help give information and receive information during a dr's visit so I find this dr's reaction, as I said, bizarre. My conclusion, based on his temperamental performance, is that he has severe personality problems that affect his ability to perform professionally. He appeared quite aged and it's likely he's becoming senile and it's time to retire. Or perhaps he needed lunch and wanted to get rid of us so he could hit the hospital cafeteria across the street. We saw him heading that way immediately after our dismissal. He didn't take fluid from my husband's knee, which his ID dr had requested, and left us without an appt. with another dr after waiting a week for this appt. In other words, he left us stranded, on our own, to deal with the pain, with no appt. with another dr., no idea what was going on with the hot, swollen knee, the complicated medical history, recent hospitalization for sepsis, currently on IV antibiotics for 6 weeks, no interest in learning any of this even after reading the ID dr's note requesting fluid and analysis of fluid from knee. He didn't give a rat's ass. He just had his nose out of joint over something and apparently his ego had been injured, which was his only concern. This guy could not have been less professional or less caring.

In short, if you have any choice in the matter, I would stay far, far away from Dr. Reiley. The…read morename itself makes my body tense up with anger, and if you have the time and energy to read the following, you will see why. MY STORY -- PART ONE Let me start at the beginning ... A few years back, I had a tiny fracture in one of the bones in my ankle from a lacrosse injury. I had some pain with walking -- nothing horrible, but not something I wanted to live with forever. Dr. Reiley was recommended to me as someone who "specializes in the foot and ankle." If I had known then what I know now, I would never have gone to see him, and my whole life might have been very different, but of course I DID see him, and I trusted that he (as an orthopedic surgeon) would be able to figure out the best treatment for my injury. When I went in, Dr. Reiley took some X-rays of my ankle (which he also did at every appt that followed) and agreed that I had a small ankle fracture. He said that there were surgical options, but that the surgery would be just as likely to make it worse as to make it better. So, he suggested a non-surgical approach: simply non-weight-bearing. He described this as the "conservative approach," and that seemed smart to me (obviously I didn't want any unnecessary surgery). He had an assistant put my leg into a hard cast, told me to get crutches, and said I should come back in three months. Well, obviously 3 months on crutches was not enjoyable. But, I figured, okay, this is what my ankle needs to heal, so that's fine. After it was over, I came back to Dr. Reiley. He took another X-ray and said that the fracture was still there and that I should continue to stay off the ankle, but now I could put it in a removable "boot" so that it would be easier to shower. I asked as many questions as I could before he left the room (he has a way of suddenly disappearing), and while he was with me he made it clear that even though the boot was removable, I should not put ANY weight on my foot. He gave me no exercises whatsoever to do with the foot; he just said to rest it. Once again he said he would see me back in a couple months. Over the next few months, my body began to hurt all over. My shoulders and neck were killing me from the constant use of crutches, and I could barely sleep at night from the pain in my back, neck, and shoulders. I was prescribed NSAIDS, which I continued to take for a long time and which contributed to the development of gastrointestinal problems, but that is a whole different story. When I called Dr. Reiley's office to tell him about the pain and to try to get some clarification on exactly how long I would need to be on crutches, it turned out that he was on vacation and would be unreachable for a month. Okay, great. When he finally got back to me, the message the receptionist gave me was to just make sure to not put ANY weight on it, because it might mess up any healing that had occurred. So I suffered through another month and returned to see him (it is literally embarrassing for me to write this, because I can't believe that I continued to see him, but at this point I really did trust that despite his poor bedside manner, at least he knew what he was doing -- Unfortunately I was wrong). When I saw him this time, after being on crutches for about 7 months, the X-ray he took showed severe osteoporosis throughout my foot and ankle -- so much that my bones barely showed up on the X-ray at all. (It's not shocking that my foot had developed osteoporosis after not touching the ground for 7 months, but he seemed very surprised by this). For the first time, he showed a little concern and called a colleague who is a Rheumatologist because he was worried that I had arthritis. Arthritis!? Thus began the month of seeing 5 or 10 different doctors -- rheumatologists, podiatrists, orthopedic surgeons, you name it. I was diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis (even though I didn't have psoriasis, and my bloodwork came back negative for any arthritis signals) and put on steroids. Another doc diagnosed me with Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome, which was soon contradicted by two other doctors I saw. Finally, I saw an orthopedic surgeon who didn't give me a crazy diagnosis: she just said, "You have been off of this foot for too long, and now everything is inflamed. It's going to hurt, but you need to just try to walk on it again, because every month that you stay off it, it's just going to get harder." (FOR PART TWO, SEE DR. REILEY'S PAGE FOR HIS BERKELEY OFFICE).

Re-posting my review from 2 weeks ago…read more.. My mom was sent to the hospital due to a fall at our home a few months ago. After she stayed there for a couple days the doctor recommended that she go into a rehab facility to improve her walking. There were many facilities that showed interest in taking care of my mom and in the end I chose Orinda Care Center cause it was closer to our home and that I would be able to visit her more often when I'm off from work. After her first week at the facility I scheduled a visit to see her and she was happy to tell me good news that she has been walking more with the help of her physical therapist. I also asked her about how she felt about the place in general and she said that the nurses were helpful with her needs, food was good, she would watch tv and talk to her roommate sometimes when she felt like it. My mom likes to be to herself so I thought that was really funny. I'm glad I took a chance on Orinda even after reading the previous bad reviews. The place may be small but I think that was the best part about it because my mom was getting more attention from the staff and I could tell they genuinely cared about her. My mom was safely discharged back to us at our home cause she no longer needed rehab services to walk. Thank you staff for all that you do during this pandemic and especially for taking really good care of my mom! I'm leaving this review to show how much I appreciate you all and to keep up the good work.
