I've been to other acupuncturists (on & off) and by far I love Carine and her space the best. Why? A healing space is essential in this type of work. Her office is clean, very calm and peaceful, with crystals, stones, waterfalls, soft music and like-minded souls working together to provide a safe and loving environment to do healing work. I had a 1 hour shiatsu massage. The location is convenient: the pretty buildings right off the Atherton/San Marin exit, on Redwood blvd, before you get to Trader Joes. The space is nice and clean. Carine is very professional and has strong hands, the massage was deep and healing. I really enjoyed the shiatsu style: she places pressure on one part of your body and pressure on another part which correlates somehow, for example: on your shoulder and on your leg. The massage was with full clothes on and no oil... I know that some people are grossed out by the idea of having to get naked and greasy. I would definitely recommend giving her a try!! read more

I'm not one for writing yelp reviews unless I'm either really impressed (and that doesn't happen every day) or really upset (and that would have to be pretty bad). Carine is a true healer. I feel so very fortunate to to have found her because initially, I went in to alleviate severe neck pain, but through her thorough consult and treatment in her lovely office, she helped me far beyond the throbbing neck pain that felt like someone stuck a sword through my back and was poking out of my head. (Not to be graphic, but that's how it felt when I walked in.) After I completed a very thorough questionnaire, she asked me important questions related to my health issues, listened very carefully and patiently to what I was saying, read my pulse and examined my tongue (like some acupuncturists do), and gave me some information about her observations. From there, the fun needle part began. Most of us don't like being pricked, but I must say, her technique for putting in the needles was calm and effective and didn't make me nervous like I have been in the past with some other acupuncturists - and I literally felt blocked energy releasing from my body. She was able to find the best points and even gave me a bonus treatment on my stomach where I have a major scar from prior surgeries. The astounding results helped me realize how that was also contributing to my neck pain. What I liked about her also, was that she asked for my feedback and made me listen to my body to identify where I was "stuck" or in pain so we were really able to get down to the nitty gritty! I know I'm not the easiest client because I've had other acupuncturists tell me, "Oh my goodness, your neck is the tightest neck I ever seen. It's like steel." She never once made a negative comment about my body or made it seem like it would be this huge challenge to help me. She just plugged away in a very focused, warm, professional manner. I feel like a weight has literally been lifted off of my shoulders! No more headache, no more neck pain in just one very thorough visit! I'm so grateful. I also am now educated on how to stay loose for my body type and will continue to release what I've stored in there for so long. I have been to several acupuncturists who just stick the needles in and want their check without even taking the time to really talk with you and listen to what you need and educate you. I twisted my ankle badly and was in so much pain I was in tears. My acupuncturist was out of town. I was referred to Carine by a friend. She was very nice on the phone and unlike another review I read here, I felt very welcomed. I wasn't sure how much it could help me, but I was in so much pain that I wanted to try everything. I truly cannot say enough great things about Carine. I started seeing her at 36 weeks pregnant and it was such a great decision. At first treatments were focused around relaxation and general prenatal support, but as my due date neared, arrived and passed with no baby, we shifted gears to labor inducing treatments. Carine was an incredibly calming person to be around during what ended up being a stressful time for me (waiting on babies is hard!!), and I so enjoyed being in her space and our time together. I was HIGHLY disappointed in the Shiatsu. It started when I was waiting; Carine popped out of a back room and said are you here for your group on? No introduction, no hello, no welcome. 10 minutes later than my start time she finally takes me in the room. Still no introduction. She didn't put a clean sheet on the table; thank goodness I was there for Shiatsu and not swedish. She finally gets me on the table and starts working. She never asked how I was doing; I had to let her know 2 times that she was hitting bone. Add to that the incessant knuckle popping (hers, not mine), the choppiness of the treatment and her apparent lack of wanting to be there... I would not recommend her. Never once did she call me by name. I am in the spa business and was excited by the fact that she is an acupuncturist; she should know the meridians and excel at Shiatsu. Toward the end of the session (which she ended promptly on time even though she took me in 10 min late) I had to let her know her hair was hitting me in the face. A couple of times I wondered if she fell asleep; the pressure lightened considerably and her hair in my face led me to think that. The only reason I knew she was awake is she kept taking her hands off me to pop her knuckles. She didn't advertise in her group on that she was only offering the treatment on certain days. She also doesn't advertise that her Shiatsu is on a table and not on a mat as is traditional. read more
