Coming to the end of a 10 week out patient stay, and we couldn't be happier. The atmosphere is like silicone valley (relaxed but very effective), the apartment was affordable and friendly (we have met inspiring individuals here), the staff are top notch (they once went 17 years without losing a nurse). The food is good. Their 'Peak Center' allows you to buy important extra therapy for only $80 an hour, and it has all kinds of high tech machines to make a body better. On reviewing potentials, we undervalued Recreation Therapy. This Hospital's RT department has blown us out of the water. The things she has gotten to do have not only restored her outlook, it's kept her so busy it has allowed no time for moping. She, at little to no cost to us, has gone gliding, kayaking, scuba diving (intro only), wheelchair hiking, and on Friday she goes sailing. Of course she has had a ton of both physical therapy, and occupational therapy, and they teach how to drive with hand controls too. Two days ago they taught her how to go down stairs backwards in her chair (in a fire the elevators shut off). If I had to whine about anything I'd probably choose schedule creation and dissemination. It's a black box that spits out a PDF of her schedule every Thursday. It's clunky and does not easily allow our input (but we can input, and change it). Parking is easy and coffee is free. What more could you ask for?

When we got to the facility, we were told that the scrub tech had called in, and because of that the surgery was simply cancelled. No backup plan, no alternative offered, just cancelled. Staffing shortages happen, but a surgical center should have protocols in place to ensure patients do not lose their long awaited procedures at the last minute. I hope that this review encourages the facility to take patient scheduling and preparation more seriously, and to provide reliable contingency planning so others do not have to go through the same experience.

I went in with a sore throat and was swabbed for COVID and strep, had a brief conversation with a PA and left with an Rx for steroids. The bill was $638. It cost $250 to walk in the door, the conversation with the PA was an additional $88, and the COVID swab alone was $250. It was billed as PCR (it was not, results were available within 10 minutes). After multiple phone calls and emails, the consensus with their outsourced billing department is that they don't know what they providers charge for and the consensus at the urgent care is that the rates are set by the outsourced billing department. No one reached back out to me. I don't even care that I waited 2 hours past my appointment time. I just can't understand how I could owe them almost $200 for such basic services when they already received well over $400. I would recommend asking them to run the numbers on anything they offer to do- could have saved several hundred dollars by letting them know I already tested negative for COVID at home on a $7 test.

I had SO many questions and he answered all of them with patience and kindness- and in a way that I could actually understand. He put me at ease about my back pain and shared with me some PT exercises that I could do at home to help heal.
