I have been coming here for a few months now. I participate in the Veteran's program that is also available to First Responders. Everyone is super nice and I have enjoyed the time and work I have put in while working with the horses. The growth and connection I have experienced have been great. They have other programs and volunteer opportunities for those who are interested. read more

This review is for the Healing With Horses Ranch in Manor. The owner and equine therapist Patty is a wonderful, understanding, and dedicated person to work with. The ranch itself is small with I would guess about eight horses, riding trails, a corral, stables, and a barn. The property has a picturesque creek running through it. When you first arrive, you are greeted by a friendly dog named kitty. Parking is no problem here, and the electronic gate opens smoothly when you first arrive. You do have to get out of your car to activate the gate switch, but it closes automatically behind you. read more

My family has been volunteering at HHR for a couple of years, and recently my youngest son started riding there. It has been incredibly helpful for him to help process his emotions in a healthy way. The staff there would bend over backwards for anyone, and the instructors truly know how to support students in becoming independent. And, of course, the horses are amazing. The herd is diverse, and there's the perfect fit for everyone. This place is a treasure. read more

Healing with Horses Ranch is a 501(c)(3) non-profit equine-assisted service center located just east of Austin, Texas. By creating space for healthy relationships between horses & humans, we empower individuals to develop life skills in a safe, inclusive environment. We primarily serve three core populations within the greater Austin area from a trauma-informed approach. Our programs are available to individuals of all ages with mental health diagnoses through adaptive riding, equine-assisted learning, and equine-assisted psychotherapy. The equine is at the center of everything we do, serving as the true teacher in each of our services. While every session is unique, the bond between horse & human is the foundation. By modeling healthy communication, choice, self-awareness, and acceptance, we help individuals build tools they can carry into everyday life. We ensure all equine-assisted activities are grounded in research & science. Each of our evidence-based programs is designed to address a wide range of challenges & diagnoses through a trauma-informed lens. We continuously refine our services to set a standard for the industry and to strengthen the holistic health of our community through high-quality care. In addition to maintaining high standards across all programs, we work to ensure that anyone in need can access the benefits of equine-assisted therapy. We offer financial assistance based on household income, and veterans receive services at no cost.

History

Established in 2012.

Our founder, Patty D’Andrea, an Advanced Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor & Certified Equine Specialist, started Healing with Horses Ranch in 2011 and held the inaugural lesson in January 2012. She started the center in memory of her father, a veteran, who lived with the long-term affects of PTSD. Healing with Horses Ranch was previously the site of a closed recycling plant, sitting on primarily flood plain. Patty & her husband John lived in an RV on the property with a handful of horses, volunteers, and clients. What we have become today is a testament of Patty's dream of changing lives. We underwent a voluntary peer review in 2018 and successfully met the accreditation requirements to become a Premier Accredited Center by the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International. This designation allows us to be recognized in the community for upholding the highest standards and enables us to train other centers.
