    The Lafayette Hotel and Club

I've visited the Lafayette both during the Christmas season and at other times of the year, and I…read morecan definitely see why it gets so much attention. The decor and overall atmosphere are stunning--there's a very intentional, immersive vibe throughout the property that feels both nostalgic and elevated. During the holidays especially, it really leans into that charm. That said, the experience can vary depending on where you are in the hotel. The Gutter is easily my favorite area. It's a fun, lively space with bowling, pool, and great drinks. The little details--like the adorable bowling pin-shaped menus--really add to the experience. However, the pool table system is a bit of a mess. There's a chalkboard where you're supposed to write your name to hold your place, but names get erased or skipped constantly. It feels chaotic and could definitely benefit from a more structured system. Lou Lou's is another highlight in theory--it's a great spot for jazz and has a really cool ambiance--but the crowd management needs serious improvement. I paid for tickets to a show once and wasn't even able to sit down. After waiting about 45 minutes just to get a seat, we eventually gave up entirely, which was frustrating given that we had already paid. One other small note: while I understand it's a hotel and they need to manage traffic, I do wish they were a bit more flexible about guests taking photos in certain areas, especially since the design is such a big part of the appeal. Overall, I genuinely love the atmosphere and think the Lafayette is worth visiting--especially if you appreciate design and unique spaces. With a few improvements to organization and crowd management, it could easily match the level of its aesthetic.

Why is this place even called a hotel? The rooms are tiny - nowhere to put your luggage at all…read more The insulation is nonexistent - expect to hear every partygoer walking by your room. You can hear and feel the vibration from the nightclub down below. I think the positive reviews here are all from people that came here for drinks, dinner, etc. Their website is impossible to navigate as well and did not make it clear that this would be the case. I should have run when I saw the ear plugs on the nightstand. The staff are completely unhelpful. We attempted to check in early - our rooms were not ready yet so we checked our luggage with them and went to the diner on property to have a snack and some drinks while we waited. The diner menu is not what you would expect and entirely non-kid-friendly. I was told that we would be texted "momentarily" when our rooms were ready. 2 hours later, at normal check in time, we went to check with the front desk again. They said they had texted us an hour and 15 mins ago. My husband and I had separate rooms on separate reservations and neither one of us got a text. I got a text from the concierge after he went and checked with them and got our keys. We had also checked our luggage with them under our names and they put it all in one room, despite the entirely separate reservations and separate names on the tags. The showers are half open and don't have a door - flooding the room with water anytime anyone takes a shower. I had to put a robe down on the floor to sop it up after the towel got drenched. The beds are comfortable, but don't expect to sleep in this night-club of a "hotel." This is a drunk person's crash pad at best. I wish that had been made clearer on the website. I'm writing this while feeling the bass through the floor and hearing the music and drunk people stumble by and slam doors while my sick kid thankfully mostly sleeps through it because of the meds he took. Don't make my mistake - I wouldn't stay here if you're over the age of 25, and definitely not with kids.

The rooms are small, with all the usual amenities, plush bed, and space is utilized well.  Staff is very friendly, attentive.  There is a really awesome bar with indoor outdoor seating and the chef/bartender Miguel  great stories and life experiences from his world travels he's willing to share. Drinks were good but a bit expensive.   If you are a couple who want to be in the downtown TJ area to experience nightlife, this might be the place for you.  However, the hotel doesn't have its own parking, as it is off-site, not oriented for families or those who have difficulties moving around or in need of ramps.

I felt safe. *Bar was clean and great environment. *Close to all the Bars, Casino, Clubs, & food. *Bar Waiter is great and attentive. *Drinks are great, loved the Whiskey Sour. *Bathrooms are clean with hot water. *Loved the hotel environment and the artistic atmosphere. *The hotel gives discounts on parking. *Decent coffee by the reception desk. *AC was working. Cons: *No way to cancel rooms. *Rooms are a little pricey for the location. *No free continental breakfast. Just some small cakes and postre at the reception desk. *Bed sheet had stains. *Pillows are too soft. *Bed mattress was okay, I prefer firm mattress. *The room I stayed in had a huge square hole on top of the closet. *You have to park your vehicle at the 24-hour Sorianas Parking Lot. It appears to have no security, so park at your own risk. *Hotel is not exactly located at a great location, I witnessed a robbery and an on foot cop chase. *Loud music that you can hear in your room until around 2:00 am. But it's not too uncomfortable. *Can hear doors slam from other rooms. Final thoughts, I would definitely recommend it, and I will stay again.

The staff here is top-notch, who provide excellent customer service and are always attentive to guests' needs. The hotel itself is spotless, and the pillows and blankets smelled fresh, which is always a plus. Plus, the coffee and food were consistently fresh and tasty throughout my stay. The location is also super convenient, surrounded by a ton of great places to eat, plus Target, Ross, HomeGoods, and several gas stations. And being near the freeway makes getting around San Diego a breeze. If you're into fitness, the gym here is a nice bonus as well. Overall, this Comfort Inn definitely exceeded my expectations--great job, Raj and the team! Highly recommend!

On Thanksgiving evening my family of 3 had a reservation at Comfort Inn Escondido. When we arrived,…read morethere was a strong sewage odor in the parking lot. We hoped it wouldn't be an issue in the room, and checked in. Unfortunately, upon entering the room (210, 2nd floor) we realized the smell was throughout the hotel and it was going to be difficult to sleep. We opened the window, but, since the smell was outside, airing things out wasn't helpful. We decided we couldn't stay and went back to the front desk to explain the issue and let them know we wouldn't be staying. The front-desk employee was polite, but unable to refund our reservation and gave us the phone # of management. We were tired, and, if we could have stayed, we would have. Nobody wants to throw away the cost of a reservation. But the smell was unbearable. I can't blame the hotel for the air quality. That's out of their control. We looked online and found that North San Diego County has periodic issues (mostly from a Tijuana River raw sewage issue). But, they should either make customers aware or allow for cancellations on bad days. As suggested, I called and spoke with manager Raj who actually said he didn't believe me that there was an odor issue and he wouldn't refund the reservation. I was surprised at his response. I said that I would include that in my review (I like writing reviews and if you look, you'll see that I give lots of mostly-5 star reviews in which I try to include lots of useful pro/con details). Raj felt I was threatening. I do understand that - reviews can be used inappropriately. I said "no, I'm just letting you know that I do reviews and include my genuine experiences - good or bad." At this point, Raj said "I am not going to refund you your money" and hung up on me. That was weird - I never raised my voice and remained positive and constructive on the call. It was a genuinely bizarre call.

The room itself was what you would expect from a typical Marriott property. Clean, comfortable, and nothing out of the ordinary. The most disappointing part for me was the breakfast. As someone who eats plant based, my options were extremely limited. I ended up having oatmeal and bananas both mornings while watching most guests enjoy bacon and eggs. I was honestly expecting a bit more variety, especially fresh fruit, which feels like a basic for a standard Western hotel breakfast. On a positive note, the guy sitting on the bench outside was the best part. Overall, it was an okay stay, but I do wish there were more inclusive breakfast options, especially at that price point.

Gaby checked us out and she was super friendly. Our room was beautiful. The bathroom is lovely with a gorgeous huge walk in shower. The mattress was super comfortable and comfy pillows too. Breakfast was yummy and loved the coffee and waffle bar. (Don't forget to flip it so the timer goes on, should have a direction for that!) the breakfast area was nice and also an outdoor patio with heater is great. Wanted to take a jacuzzi but it was full with people and it's not very big. The pool is big. The whole experience was great and I highly recommend staying here and hope to be back in future.
