Five stars for the atmosphere alone! From the moment you walk through the doors, it's like stepping into another world. A little old Hollywood glamour, a little Art Deco elegance, a splash of vintage Vegas, and a whole lot of wonderfully eccentric creativity! Everywhere you look, there's something new to catch your eye. The ornate chandeliers, rich colors, wild animal-print furnishings, elaborate ceilings, vintage-inspired lighting, and even the incredible brass snake door handles. The attention to detail is absolutely mind-blowing! I specifically stopped by during the early afternoon because I wanted to see the spectacular atrium bar while there was still plenty of natural light streaming through the glass ceiling. What a sight! The massive circular bar, surrounded by ornate fixtures and beautiful architectural details, is truly the centerpiece of an already extraordinary property. Fair warning, it can get a little warm under all that glass when the sun is shining, but fortunately the sun was beginning to set during my visit, making the atmosphere increasingly comfortable. And the exploration doesn't stop at the bar! Wander around and you'll discover one fascinating space after another. The beautifully appointed lounge areas, the striking black-and-white checkered floors, the tropical pool courtyard with its striped cabanas, and even the restrooms are worth a look! Seriously, how often can you say that about a hotel restroom?! Every corner feels like someone put an enormous amount of thought into making it memorable. What I particularly loved was how the entire property manages to feel both historic and wildly imaginative at the same time. It's glamorous without being stuffy, quirky without feeling gimmicky, and filled with so many unexpected details that you almost need a second visit just to take everything in. The service was fantastic, too! Everyone I encountered was friendly, welcoming, and helpful, which made the experience even better. I didn't stay overnight, so I can't speak to the guest rooms, but as a destination to visit, explore, and enjoy a drink, this place is something special. If you're visiting San Diego, or even if you've lived here for years and haven't checked out The Lafayette, do yourself a favor and stop by. I texted in at around 12am regarding water, my boyfriend ended up going to the front desk to ask for a new carafe of water after no response. The woman working grabbed a used carafe near her computer monitor, dumping the water, refilling it before handing to him. Additionally, the service at the partner spots were very slow and not friendly. Grabbing the menu while we were still reading it, no acknowledgement after 10+ minutes at the bar, no basic pleases/thank you's. Just basic things that made my stay very unwelcome throughout the afternoon and at 11:30pm-12am on a Monday night. I've been looking forward to loving this spot, so it was unfortunate the overall service resulted in a bad taste in my mouth. For a hotel advertised at this calibre, I expected considerably more of my experience for my birthday.

The king size bed had a dip in the middle and which resulted in my friend and I rolling downhill and getting very chummy. The breakfast had a good variety and the free popcorn machine in the lobby was a nice bonus. The biggest problem was getting in and out of the parking lot which shared space with an In n Out and a Canes and had one driveway. That was challenging at the lunch and dinner rush. They refuse to refund any of the $11,000+ that they have basically stolen from us. We are currently disputing all charges and they will not respond to any of our calls. The room was large and pretty nice; we did notice the floors were a bit "damp". The little patio with the chairs and view, very nice. We were able to hear the live music coming from marina bar as we were sitting outside of our room taking in the view. We took out a paddle boat that was complimentary at check in. The lake itself is very nice, pretty peaceful considering it sits smack-dab in the middle of a neighborhood. What makes my review a 3.8 isnt the accommodation. Recommended. When staying at an upscale hotel or resort, cleanliness should be seamless and unquestionable. Guests should not have to inspect the carpet, shower, or towels and wonder whether the room was fully serviced before their arrival. Those details are fundamental to the overall guest experience. The property itself has many appealing qualities, but the housekeeping shortcomings significantly affected our impression of the stay. At this price point and level of presentation, I expected far greater attention to detail and a stronger quality-control process before rooms are released to guests. With more consistent housekeeping and room inspections, Lakehouse Resort could provide the experience its setting and branding suggest. Unfortunately, our room did not meet that standard.

Our room was a little bit late, and they invited us to sit in the bar and gave us two complimentary drinks and several bottles of Evian water. We immediately felt spoiled. When we got to our room, we were incredibly surprised by the smart layout of the floor plan and the great use of space! Everything was clean, in order, and just had this warm and welcoming feel that made our time there special. Also, the complimentary snacks were outstanding! We fell in love with some potato chips and now are on a mission to find more. The grounds were incredible! I was absolutely amazed by how wonderfully kept the outside and the inside of everything was. There was a real serenity and just peacefulness as we walked along, no matter where we were on the property. Honestly, this place really is a diamond in the rough, and if you weren't looking for it, you would completely miss it.
