This company is so greedy. My therapist moved and they wouldn't tell me where she was going but told me I could get set up with another one of their therapists. I worry about what kind of company would do that especially to very vulnerable clients who rely on their therapists. Feels super unethical and greedy to me. I would expect a mental health business to care about their clients mental health, not money. I definitely will not be giving them more business after hearing that, yuck. read more

I have never felt heard in the way that I do with Jan. I see Jan on a weekly basis online and love her to death. In the 2 months in therapy here I have loved the consistency, the personability and the level of care. I have not once felt like I was just another patient who a Dr. was trying to push medication or a diagnosis on. I have and will continue to recommend healing minds to friends. I have not been in office but the receptionist is always very friendly and easy to talk to. read more

The most frustrating part about getting help is taking the first step. If you've ever been in a deep, binding depression you know how hard that can be. The kind where you can't really feed yourself or get out of bed. With the help of family, I decided to get help. I called Healing Minds earlier this year and they said that THEY DID accept my insurance. My therapist, Zoe, was awesome and I felt like I could finally see the light at the end of the tunnel after a hospitalization the previous year. I felt like I was on the right path. The front office ended up calling me after two sessions and they mentioned that they actually do not accept my insurance, and it's actually my fault and not their responsibility - and that I should have checked with my own insurance. Now I owe a balance of $273.00 to cover for the out of pocket/no insurance balance of the previous two sessions. I clearly couldn't afford that, and instead of healing, my mental health and well-being took a step back. Even my psychiatrist at UNR was furious because they weren't willing to working with me on that. You're in the people businesses. Therapy isn't some service you offer in a day, and then a person is healed in exchange for some cash. I'm hesitant to even go to another therapist after that fiasco. I'm currently on a payment plan, but just double-check with your insurance. read more

I have debated about this but , in marriage counseling - we didn't get the proper/ helpful therapy we should've. He never got down to the helping us heal, and just gave up on us. I'll never again feel comfortable expressing myself again in fear of being told," I can't help you.." after months of trying to build trust and paying for someone to just never give us tools ir advice.Louise never got to help in any issues and just sat there listening- we had real bad almost divorce, anger and painful issues.. never felt as iff anything he ever did helped and we felt deserted by him. We tried over months to trust he would help if we were honest, but he lacked any real skills to deal w marriage. Nothing he did, did we take w us to save our marriage- just a lot of- "how did that make you feel?" W no tools for us to learn how to express. We really needed a more professional person, I see that now. To keep hoping he could help us, then for him to just abandoned us when we needed him most. We did even go to the last session, and I stead( because he gave up on us) decided to move away to heal together away. I do need t recommended this place. Or this counselor. He will leave you in the worst state. I feel as if he just wanted to get more money out of us. And should've let us know, he couldn't handle us. Instead of mentally harming us and our marriage. When people reach out to a mental health professional they expect compassion, understanding, and gentleness. My autistic daughter who suffers from SEVERE anxiety and depression and I went to check her in to her appointment. The woman who was checking us in reprimanded her for not doing her paperwork. Giving her a lecture about being an adult now it's her responsibility to do these kinds of things...and on and on. Her tone was harsh, condescending, and belittling. I could see my daughter shrinking each word this woman said. I was furious. We got in the car and she had an anxiety attack so bad I ended up taking her to the ER. My goal every day is to help keep my daughter alive. Because of the actions of this woman , my daughter had a really, really hard day. read more

I work with a lot of students at the university that every now and then find themselves in a crisis and this place has been a life-saver for the students who have chronic issues or need more intensive or holistic treatment than the school can provide them. The vibe is very homey and inviting and the therapists are amazing! Dominique has been a godsend for some of my students and myself! Parking is phenomenal and easy and there's a bus line nearby. Accepts most major insurance plans. Would definitely recommend especially if you're hesitant about seeking help! read more

It is never easy to try and find a person to talk to about very personal struggles one is facing. Luckily it was found here at Healing Minds. My daughter has been seeing Nick for a while now. She has been happy with her time spent during each session. She feels comfortable in talking with him since he does have a bit of a "nerd" quality to him. The front staff is friendly and helpful. Yes they do have a strict policy regarding cancellations and reschedules, but this seems to be the norm with many services these days from beauty to health. read more

I'm really disappointed in this place. I'm a working professional with small children and sometimes need to re-arrange my day based on kids' needs and work scheduling. I was charged a whopping $75 for a session I couldn't get to due to work and child commitments and it was the only time I had to re-arrange. Instead of working with me, they just charged my card on file without confirming first. I was appalled. I wanted to reschedule and get me on the books for the next day or next week, but they said they wouldn't reverse the fee and I had to pay the missing appointment fee and my co-pay at the next appointment. Seriously? The center seems focused more on payments/money and less on supporting the wellbeing of those seeking treatment/support. read more

Initial call they said they could not contact me, I have nothing on my phone showing they tried to call. I called them........they stated they had no record, although I had several texts from them. I wish in so many ways that the stigma around "depression' or any mental illness was not looked on as something to be shamed of. I my self have been dealing with the loss of my mother, whom I was her caretaker FT for 3 years until she pasted last Sept... So I have been looking for over a year in Reno for a good match to my own questions of "life" So here is a great review for a local place that is safe, clean, friendly and welcoming..... This place is hard to find because it is in the middle of MANY other smaller bossiness off of S. McCarran. but once you walk in it is much different from all other therapy office I have gone to here in Reno. (I must have been spoiled with the one in Cali) Anyways once you walk in you are greeted by a LOVEABLE Labadoddle named "Zoey" and soft wall palette colors on the walls. Coffee is their for you to choose on what flavor you want while you wait to be seen. Their are two different seating areas for you to choose from, if you don't want to feel crowed. While I sat and drank my coffee, Zoey stops back by to some pats. Once called into the room you get to look out at a lush courtyard with the sights and sounds of many birds. All and all if you are in need of someone to "vent", "chat" clear your mind this place is well worth your time to check out. FYI: If you make a appointment and need to cancel they require 48 hrs. notice. Yes, that is the one down side, but still well worth it. I liked seeing the therapist I was seeing. I was paying out of pocket so in October I decided to take the rest of the year off for financial reasons. I called and told the person at the front desk. They said they would email my therapist. I should have done that part myself because I doubt this happened. When I called back to get back on the schedule at the end of December I was told my therapist was leaving at the end of the year. She said I could email her at the healing minds email to see if I could got with her to her new practice location, but that I could call back and see someone else at Healing Minds. I emailed the therapist on Dec 20th, same day I called to get back on the schedule. I never got an email back. Of course all the insecurities come flying in. I have done all I can to give her the benefit of the doubt. Then self blame comes in because I really should have emailed the therapist explaining that I wasn't quitting, but I was taking a two month break to save money. I also wanted to see if she was taking my work's new insurance (they change every year). I am not going to try and find another therapist with them. I always felt something was off, but because I appreciated and liked the person I was seeing, I could look past that. Who knows, maybe what I was feeling had something to do with why the therapist I was seeing left. But don't let my experience stop you from getting help. Some times just starting is the hardest part and finding a therapist who will take you as you are can be hard. But Reno is large enough and you will find someone. Keep looking! In my experience, Healing Minds is not capable of handling serious conditions. My loved one was in their care for 5 months. Their handling of my loved one was potential dangerous. When asked about what happened, they were defensive and tried to blame us for what happen. We would never return. read more

The billing was a mess and so were the clinicians certifications. Keep an eye on your explanation of benefits and the rates they charge. Make sure your not paying extra. My situation took them months to give me hundreds of dollars back after my insurance company got involved. read more

Also after looking at the Google reviews, I find the owners replies to be adversarial, completely unprofessional and out of bounds to the point that I've now decided to leave this group. The overall vibe of this place is nice, it's got a homey to feel to it. I've been coming here to see Lee off and on for about 2 years. She is fabulous at what she does, very easy to talk to and super insightful as a therapist should be. The office staff is mostly nice, very busy. Always on the phone when I come in. Be warned that if you cancel an appointment same day - they will auto charge you $60. That hurt my feelings a bit, a courtesy reminder when I called to cancel would have been nice. read more

I have been debating for a long time whether to post a review or not so I decided to give it some time after being "let go" from therapy with Lisa Foley. I didn't want to get my emotional mind getting in the way of my review. Therapy with Lisa was great at the beginning. I had complete trust in her pretty much right from the beginning. I had never connected with a therapist so much in my life and it was a relief. I finally got a proper diagnosis and began proper treatment. I even remember Lisa once telling me she believed that the universe had brought us together and she was meant to help me. What an awesome thing to hear from someone who knows everything about you! There was one problem. I was having a hard time stopping drinking (let me make this clear, I think I only missed one appointment in almost a year of therapy). And I know, from much education, that addiction is prevalent in many people diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. There was one point where I ended up in the hospital and Lisa told me she would discontinue seeing me unless I went to in patient rehab for a month. So I went. Of course. She was looking out for my best interest right? Well, Lisa knew that my nursing license would be revoked upon admitting this to the nursing board and insisted anyways. I ended up losing my nursing license. I continued to see Lisa. Like I said, I have never been able to open up to someone like I did with her. Here comes another relapse. I move back to Canada for the interim to be with my family in a safe environment. Lisa kindly agrees to to be my therapist over FaceTime and we continued sessions. I had a relapse at home and long story short, Lisa wasn't able to handle an impulsive decision I had made ( let me make something clear again, impulsivity is a character trait in borderline disorder) so half way during one of our sessions she decided to let me go. I had no notice, no warning, absolutely nothing. I was in a foreign country with no resources. Lisa offered to find me resources at quadruple the cost knowing I was unemployed. I was absolutely left in the dust. This message is to warn others of services offered by Lisa Foley (I cannot speak for others in the office). If you have BPD and have problems with impulsivity (I.e., alcohol, drugs, cutting etc.) I cannot in absolute faith say that she won't abandon you in your deepest time of need. Thank you for your time. P.S. The last time I had posted a review on their Facebook page Lisa blocked me promptly not allowing my reviews to be posted anymore. I also noticed as soon as there was one bad review there were about 20 others proving that she is coaxing people into posting good reviews for her. Please, beware. read more

When I called to make an appointment, I was immediately asked about my insurance. When I gave them the name of my provider, they told me they didn't take my insurance and, basically, dismissed me. Although I am perfectly able to pay out-of-pocket, I wasn't offered any options. They seemed more concerned with revenue stream than helping clients. read more

My son has seen Charlotte for well over a year now. Every visit is thorough and ends positively. She uses her education, training and experience and molds it to fit the needs of the individual. She is open, pleasant and kind and you can tell she truly cares about her clients. It is always a good experience. The front staff are always nice. I have never had a problem with scheduling. I was very disappointed and shocked in my first ever talk therapy session. It was with Linda H.B. When I started to talk to her and tell her what was going on she interrupted me a few times to tell me "her story" This was not "your time" to talk it was mine. She then proceeded to say things about my mom that were very disturbing and disrespectful to me. She doesn't know my parents and should never have given me her opinion about what she thinks was going on in their minds. I came here hoping to be able to talk and get things off my mind but when I left I was dumbfounded and pissed at myself for ever thinking it was O.K. to open up to someone. I went back and spoke to the owner who was very nice and made another appointment to see someone else but after days of feeling very uncomfortable about going I cancelled my appt. The things that were said to me were very hurtful and NOT helpful in any way. Actually very harmful. I feel very concerned for people, especially young children or young adults who are looking for someone they can talk too. Putting things in the head of people instead of listening to them without judgement is very disconcerting. read more

I've been going to Healing Minds since July of 2018 and have had nothing but great experiences. I did EMDR with Charlotte which helped immensely, a year long DBT group with Nick that worked wonders for me, and have been seeing Dom this entire time weekly. Dom is truly a shining star and she cares. Her style of therapy is the perfect mixture of everything I need. I initially went to Healing Minds in a crisis and they rallied around me and set me on the best treatment plan anyone could ask for. The staff really goes above and beyond for you, and I can't recommend the 3 therapists I've seen enough. In addition my husband sees Marcus, and my daughter sees Amanda-both of which are also incredible. This place has been a godsend. Shoutout the the front desk too. They're always friendly and willing to help because insurance companies suck and it can be confusing. I would recommend this office to anyone who is ready to start therapy. read more

I had high hopes going to Healing Minds. Lisa is from the same part of the country I am from. And we seemed to click right away. I saw her for a year shortly before and after my divorce. The last session I had with her she seemed distraught and very negative. She told me about some personal problems (including calling her ex and an angry client who tried to break in and she had to call the police) and then she seemed to lash out at me. Insisting if she were my psychiatrist she'd have me on the highest dose of my prescription for antidepressants. She then told me I'm bipolar and have a personality disorder and told me if I wanted to get better I must commit to seeing her weekly and joining group therapy every week. I left with my jaw on the floor. She had never said things like this to me in a year and then BAM all of the sudden I am seriously dealing with some legit mental disorders. I talked to my family and psychiatrist about it, they all agree severing ties with her would be the best. Not a place for healing in my opinion. Look elsewhere. And as far as a diagnosis is concerned it isn't her place - she doesn't have the credentials. My psychiatrist validated my belief that I am dealing with PTSD and depression/anxiety NOT a personality disorder or bipolar. I trusted her. That was a mistake. read more

I stood at the desk for several minutes, like an idiot. Office person didn't believe I had an appointment, until I called my wife, had her take a picture of the appointment card and showed her. Her response was "Hmmmm." The hardest part of all this was no one called me for two days. Caryn R, my therapist was the one who made the appointments. When I asked her why no-one called for two days, she said "I just got the message." Wow! There are so many caring, responsible therapists in Reno. One bad review should be enough to steer you away. Just look at all the negative responses about this practice. Their business card says "Healing Minds. It's What We Do." Not even close. My 5 yr old grand daughter went there and was opening up to Tenaya regarding the domestic violence in fathers home. Healing minds was her "safe place". After a year there was a great relationship and a comfort level, it was safe. Tenaya as a mandated reporter had to file several CPS cases with information she was hearing and after meeting with father and anger issues. We finally got a court date based on CPS, Tenaya input, school counselor and nurses input...court sends out subpoenas and Healing Minds "fires" my grand daughter as a client as "it is getting too messy" and they don't go to court!!! We ended up losing our motion as counselor was an intricate part of hearing. My grand daughter is devastated, does not trust new counselor as "she will go away" and "tell daddy".. Healing Minds if you file CPS, then you need to stand behind your report and your client..you left us thinking you were part of the solution, but to turn around and fire a little girl as a client who trusted you 100% is horrific. read more

Overgeneralizes my recounting of events to side with me, while reassuring me that others in the story sound like the bad one. The deeper issues are never addressed, leaving me feeling like I'm being talked to by a kindergarten teacher. read more

They are very knowledgeable and were very helpful when it came to questions I had about putting my step son on medication for severe ADHD. I have read some reviews before mine and I have to say this place has a commitment to their patients and have been very easy to communicate with. Not the place if you have true mental illness. If you've nothing more serious than garden variety depression, anxiety, or grief, they're probably fine. BPD, severe PTSD, DID or other Dissociative disorders, Bipolar, PS, etc...forget about it. They haven't the expertise or resources to help you. No one is unkind, although Lisa was quite condescending. Patient confidentiality is non-existent between providers and Lisa, who has set it up so she has access to all patient's out-of-session communication with their therapists, although this is apparently lawful. If you need help after hours you're out of luck. The therapists I worked with were wonderful and I am sorry to leave them, but the management and policies of the place are untenable. My trust was severely betrayed. Perhaps it was my fault in part, but things were not handled well, in my case, at all. Everything was fine as long as I didn't display any symptoms of my particular mental health diagnosis while I was there. Once symptoms started manifesting, I was persona non grata, particularly with Lisa. She tried to play things off as "concern" for me but it didn't ring "true." It was pretty disheartening. It's a good thing my former therapeutic experience, elsewhere and earlier in my diagnosis and treatment, wasn't like this one or I'd be dead. As it is, this experience will take me a while to recover from. read more

We were seeing Lee since my son was a newborn (he's over a year and a half now) and she was amazing. Always let our son come to our visits, was honest and direct with us, and seemed to help my relationship with my husband. She's retiring this month so we decided to switch to another therapist to continue our couples therapy. As we were waiting, Elizabeth Scott approached us without a smile and we immediately were feeling unwelcome. As I began setting up my son's playpen (he's wonderful and well behaved by the way) the first thing she asked was if we were able to find accommodations for our son during our therapy sessions. We explained that we didn't have anyone to watch him and that Lee never had a problem with us bringing our son. She then proceeded to tell us that she doesn't accept children in her office even though she had an entire wall full of kids toys. No joke, several shelves of children's games and toys. After asking us if this would be a problem we told her that it would be and she turned us away saying that we should see someone else. My husband asked why someone didn't divulge this information before we wasted an hour driving to the office and asked if she knew anything about us as a couple from our previous therapist. She admitted that she had no idea that we were even a couple until two minutes before the appointment and "doesn't like reading notes before an appointment". We packed up our things and told them that we wanted to be reimbursed for the day and when they asked if we wanted to see another therapist we responded that we were going to try somewhere else. She was cold, unaccommodating, rude, unprofessional, and left a very bad feeling with us. If you decide to choose this place for family therapy, I would not recommend Elizabeth Scott. read more

I have a teenage son who has been experiencing a lot of depression and anger. I was very hesitant to take him to see someone to talk to because I was unsure if he would be receptive to this type of process. I made an appointment with Healing Minds for an initial visit and my son was seen by Chris Edwards. The office was clean and open and inviting and the staff was very friendly and engaging. The atmosphere did not feel medical or sterile in any way. My son was very defensive and closed off at first but Chris had a great way of talking to him and getting him to open up and start talking about what has been going on. Chris has been great not only helping my son but helping me learn how to help my son as well. He is teaching him to recognize how he feels and strategies to utilize in the real world. We have not been going for long but there is already has a huge improvement in his attitude, behavior and ability to recognize and regulate his emotions. I would highly recommend Healing Minds to any struggling parent who may have a child struggling with emotional or anger issues. read more
