Absolute best massage ever!!! I was lucky enough to get 2 appointments for my husband and I on the same day for the same time. They are located on the North Side in Manchester and I will say, it is kind of a weird location - amongst warehouses and office buildings. There is free street parking right outside of the building! You go into the building and take the elevator to the fifth floor - it is kind of unassuming. However, when you walk in, you will be transported! It is a beautiful and relaxing space. My massage was incredible and the therapist actually listened to what I was looking for. This review reflects my honest account, understanding, and experience of events. Original review: I felt injured at this facility not once but twice by treatments I received. The first time I got severe sciatica down my leg after a massage and had to go on steroids for a week. The second time a needle was put into my ear without being explicitly told that ear acupuncture was going to be performed or that a needle would be placed in my ear. I am still, a week later, having severe ear pain because my ear canal was irritated by what was done by Amy. After I got severe sciatica from the first massage, Amy offered to do a treatment on me to make up for it. I told her multiple times I didn't really like acupuncture and wasn't really wanting to do that. She said there were other modalities and we could keep talking about the acupuncture. The pain in my ear started immediately after she unknowingly put a needle in my ear. And a week later I'm still having severe ear pain because my ear canal was irritated afterwards. In response to the owner's reply: I feel further emotionally harmed and dismissed by their response. I called other acupuncture studios in the area to try to understand what happened to me in order to find relief, to ask if this was normal and what I could do to help the pain. I did so because when I reached out to Heal Pgh afterward, I did not feel my questions were adequately answered or that I was given guidance about what happened. The places I spoke to said it was not normal for the practitioner to not explicitly state what part of the body they're going to do acupuncture on and why. They asked me where I went, so I told them honestly so they could best help me. Some of the practitioners I spoke with said that what I described was consistent with concerns they had heard before about communication and treatment style there. The response states that they've never seen someone experience pain twice...yet there are at least four reviews online here and on Google from people stating they left in pain that persisted, some who had to seek medical help. I wish the owner would use this as a learning lesson, but it does not appear that they are willing to do so. I do not feel that I gave informed consent for acupuncture to be performed in my ear. I did not book an acupuncture appointment, rather I came in to discuss with Amy what treatment modalities might be most effective for me and build a plan after the incident with my sciatica. At no point did Amy state that she was going to do acupuncture in my ear. If she had asked me if that was okay, I would have said no. She said she was going to do guasha and gave a very detailed account on what to expect from that. She said that she'd also do some gentle nervous system support on me. She didn't elaborate. One would likely not assume that a needle in the ear would be included in "gentle nervous system support." I told her several times I was uncomfortable with acupuncture and hesitant to do that. I was open to it if done in a consensual way that was clearly discussed. She said she wasn't going to do anything abrasive like acupuncture on my neck. She didn't state that she was going to do acupuncture on any specific spot. At no point was the statement "I'm going to do acupuncture in your ear" made, and in their email to me they said they stated they were going to work on my "Shen Men and sympathetic." I do not believe those words clearly explain to a lay person that a needle would be placed inside their ear. The first time I knew they were doing acupuncture in my ear was when I felt a poke inside my ear. I felt very violated by what happened and I feel further dismissed now. I believe it was very clear how deeply uncomfortable I was with them doing anything to my ear, and I believe they continued even though I appeared and stated that I was uncomfortable. Statements were made by Amy such as, "oh my husband has issues with his ears and he's fine with this," after I said I was uncomfortable. Statements like that did not feel appropriate to me from a practitioner after expressing discomfort during care. It was very clear that I was shocked and confused by what they were doing, yet they continued doing different work on my ear. I could not see what they were doing because I was laying on my back. At any point, the practitioner could have clearly told me exactly what they were going to do beforehand, rather than while I was laying unclothed on a treatment table. I feel that a good practitioner should listen when someone says they are in pain from treatment and feels violated by the experience. In my opinion, they should not respond in a way that makes the patient feel blamed or dismissed. I gave this place a second chance after I had a massage that caused a great deal of pain. I should have listened to my instincts and not gone back. read more

I have been a customer of this business for about three years now - for both acupuncture and massage. The space is beautiful and relaxing. You feel relaxed the minute you walk in the door. The staff is prompt in greeting you and very courteous. They get you settled in right away and I've never waited more than a few minutes to get placed in the room. I have been to a number of massage centers in Pittsburgh but nothing really comes close to Heal PGH. It is by far one of the best spa-clinics I have ever been to. I go fairly regularly and have only had fantastic massage sessions there. I frequently work with CJ Bal, who is an amazing yet kind person. Unlike other places, if you request a 60-minute session, you get the full time. My massages never felt rushed and she listens to my concerns. I typically get a custom massage or the one-hour reflexology session, and they never disappoint. The staff are all very pleasant and the space is much bigger since they moved. Parking is easy. In town on business. I'm two weeks out from IPL North Americans Powerlifting Championship and had a huge, deep knot in my left rhomboid. Massage for me is not a luxury; it's a necessity. I got a massage last week that did absolutely nothing to help me. I was at a loss. Finding myself with a little extra time Sunday afternoon, I scheduled an appointment to see Patapon Tongdee. He is amazing!! I booked 40 minutes and after a brief "interview" he got straight to work. Not only did he work "on" the knot but other areas he felt would be contributing to my pain and numbness. I felt good yesterday. I felt amazing today - and was not able to do my heavy bench work but pull-ups too, without pain. I am positively thrilled. I came here with my partner for my first ever deep tissue massage and acupuncture session. I really appreciate that we could both get our massages and acupuncture done at the same time as this allowed us to save time and have a shared experience. The smell and ambiance of the rooms, with the glowing rocks, electric candles & relaxing music, made it easier for us to relax and feel temporarily free from the sometimes frantic nature of life. I also enjoyed the very well designed paper advertisements (that person should get a raise) and like that CBD oil is being advertised with the massages. I received my deep tissue massage from Ian who was very professional and pleasant during the entire session. He applied the perfect amount of pressure that was needed to release the tightness in my neck and back. It was clear to me that he knew what he was doing as I could no longer feel much the tension that I generally do in those muscles. I've gotten 2 massages done here (60 minutes and 90 minutes), and one Acupuncture session. The staff here is absolutely fantastic and every person I've interacted with has been wonderful. Scheduling is a breeze and can be done all online, and they're extremely careful with COVID precautions (patients must wash hands prior to massage, masks on, strong air purifiers in every room) My massages (a few months apart) were done to address some upper back pain. From start to finish, the staff did an excellent job listening to my issues, gaining an understanding of my history and what I've done for relief. They gave me pointers and exercises to follow to address the upper back pain for the future. The entire massage was something out of this world - having sore and tight muscles that have been causing problems for months to suddenly be addressed, stretched, massaged, is something else. I honestly don't know how they do it but to pinpoint specific muscle fibers and knead/stretch them, is amazing to say the least. Amy performed my acupuncture session. Walking in, I had no idea what to expect but she put my mind at ease by explaining the process and what acupuncture serves to achieve. Again, this was used to address some upper back pain/trouble sleeping at night. Like the massage therapists, she listened to my history, what I've tried, what my daily schedule looks like, what causes additional, less pain, etc. She started around my shoulders and then moved to my upper back. The process is very much a back and forth between you and the acupuncturist - they'll feel around for trigger points and you let them know when they've found one. Once one has been found, she'll use a very thin needle to address that point. The feeling of that happening is wild, in a good way, all it feels like is there's a bird over your trigger point flapping it's wings. The first couple she hit around my shoulder immediately dropped my pulled-forward shoulder back into place. I was sore the next day, as she mentioned would happen, but the next few days I noticed a definite improvement - much more reduced neck pain, the upper back feels less tense during the day, and my shoulder doesn't feel out of alignment! She provided me with a list of exercises to do throughout the day to also help strengthen my back muscles. If you've never had a professional massage done, or acupuncture, I absolutely cannot recommend it enough, but definitely make sure it's done by anyone at Pittsburgh Acupuncture and Massageworks! Everyone here is absolutely excellent and you can tell they take an immense about of pride in what they do and it defintiely shows - they sincerely care about seeing you get better! read more

I suffer from severe neck/shoulder pain. To try to conquer this pain, I booked an appointment with Amy Green for acupuncture. She asked me questions some doctors don't even ask, that you don't even think about. After a thorough consultation, we began the acupuncture. We did the local acupuncture first. With my severe pain this process wasn't painful, but it was intense, and only because it feels like you are releasing every and any negative/ painful thing in your body at once. THEN, she put a few needles in some trigger points across my body and left me to relax for about 25-30 mins. I then, once again got an amazing massage from Iva, who is just the best! I left the spa SORE. When I woke up the next day I felt immobile. Then the day after that, I never felt this good in my life. No exaggeration. I can turn my neck, I have more energy, and sleeping like a baby. I will be purchasing a package for acupuncture. It's magical. read more

I have neuropathy and a few dietary issues that have developed in the past two years, and have had success with acupuncture in the past -- though granted, it had been years since I had it done, but was ready to give it another try starting in the early fall of 2021. Amy was nice, listened to my issues first session, made recommendations and was attentive, explaining everything she was doing and why as she worked. Unfortunately, my two appointments after that were not as positive. Left for 20 minutes at least on a table while my muscles were twitching from attached electrodes was far from relaxing, and when Amy did come back into the room to check on me, I felt very clearly that I was being sandwiched in between other clients, felt rushed. This was a week of self care for me; we all need and deserve it sometimes and I am very thankful for Charles being available to help me on short notice. It has been three years since my last massage and I have allowed pain and stress to overtake much of my life lately. Working from home, less exercise, more sitting has wreaked havoc on my shoulders and my body, truly. After seeing a chiropractor I knew a massage was well deserved. I booked a 90-minute session with Charles and upon meeting we spoke about my pain, biggest complaints, pressure and goals before we started. I explained I was completely okay if he needed to spend more time on my shoulders than anywhere else and could just forget my lower body if need be; that is just what he did (he didn't really forget, of course). I cannot believe how much I needed him! He made sure the knots knew they didn't belong in my shoulders, back or neck and he worked and worked on them until the bitter end. Had I have another 30 minutes, I am confident I could have used more time in my shoulders. Let me just say, I am standing taller and happier today and I can honestly say I am not as sore as usual post-massage although I had a much deeper and longer massage than I have in the past; a testament to him knowing what he needed to do. His 11 years of experience speaks for itself. Oh, and let me just say, the hot towel under my neck and around my feet at the end... whoa, nice touch! I kept thinking of how I could save enough money for a monthly massage because, well, I deserve it and need it, and he is awesome. I will NOT stay away for long and I can't wait to go back. The office is lovely! It is clean, warm, calming and welcoming. There are air purifiers in every space and they are taking specific precautions during these times. I mentioned the sheets were a little hard to breath through so he brought the purifier closer which allowed more air flow and I could breath much easier. I felt safe and comfortable, even in my mask. This is the only place I have found Ashiatsu massage which is amazing. They just added Ashi Thai massage with Gretchen. I tried it yesterday for the first time and it was fabulous. If you carry a lot of stress - sit a lot - have tight muscles that simply won't relax - this is exactly what you need. The stretching aspect was the release I needed. Today was my first experience with Pittsburgh Acupuncture and Massage Works. This was by far the best massage that I have ever had. The entire interaction from the second that I stepped foot in the door was beyond excellent!!!! When I first arrived at their new location ( a few minutes walk from Heinz Field) I was greeted by the receptionist named Sara. Sara is such a down to earth, free-spirited, kind, sweet professional lady. Sara knew that this was my first visit with this company. She was so genuine with her kindness making sure that I was feeling at ease before meeting the person who was going to be giving me my massage. That person was Ian. Ian put me in Heaven for an hour. Ian sincerely listened to what I wanted to done and what I did not done in my session. I was extremely paranoid about the appearance of my back and Ian made me feel 100% at eased. I love deep tissue massages. Ian also knows what a deep tissue massage really is. Other place that I have gone to didn't listen to what I want done. I often left other places more stressed out.. Also with the Pittsburgh Acupuncture and Massage Works an hour massage is really - that...60 minutes!!!! Other places I paid for an hour massage and the actual massage was about 40 - 45 minutes. Other places claim prep time is included with the hour price. Also with the Pittsburgh Acupuncture and Massage Work there is NO pressure for me to book another appointment. Other places desperately tried to get me to sign up for a package deal with their hard core tactics. This only made me upset and stressed out by undoing the so-called massage that I just received from them. With Pittsburgh Acupuncture and Massage Works they are so excellent without any questions or thinking, I wanted to get another appointment. I just did that too. I have another appointment in a couple of weeks. Sadly your 60 minute massage will go extremely fast. It will feel that you were on the table for 10 or 15 minutes. Ian listened to me during the massage to. He will make you at ease with his very soft spoken voice and awesome personality.
