It was also refreshing to find the place: - packed - alive with conversation (even between customers and stylists (not like traditional places where one stylist isn't "allowed" to speak to another stylist's client!) Typically, people hope to also see some critical view as well, but I guess the only thing I could say is that they're on the second floor (but that might only be a real issue for the business vs the customer). I kind of liked heading up the stairs - it added to the "I'm heading for a new experience" feel. Also liked the "left to the Beauty Parlour" or "right to Barber Ha" landing I arrived at. I DO however, feel like I'd better get working on my tattoo sleeve! One of the skills I've developed over 40 years in retail is the ability to get an immediate "feel" of how a business is doing, is it still alive, and what would be my prediction. This place is basically exploding with life, and I know there are some great successes in their future. VERY glad I decided to try the place!

I decided to come here because I liked what I saw in the pictures they posted on yelp. For my haircut, I wanted to go less than 0 gradually going to level 1-2, leaving the top slightly long to comb over to the side. Abe, who did my hair, was very friendly and skilled! You can tell he enjoys cutting his hair. He did an excellent job! After he was finished, he showed me how to style my hair properly. I haven't had this style before, so the next day, when I went to work and then to see my friends in the evening, they were all shocked how great my haircut looked. I actually never had that many compliments before about my hair ever! Although I live 30 mins drive from this barbershop, I will definitely keep this barbershop as my main one and will keep on coming back to see Abe. Thanks Abe! :)

The narrow shop is nicely and newly appointed with three comfy-looking barber chairs at the front, and a seating area in the back where you can watch TV or read a magazine while you wait. The barber, Noel (formerly of Tidory's downtown, I think), was super friendly and instantly understood the (admittedly simple) cut I was seeking. The cut was excellent, and I appreciated the attention to detail as he finished the cut with a straight razor around the hairline. Overall, an excellent cut in a friendly atmosphere for less than $20. I'll definitely be back.

He's looking real good. ;) Before this he went to a salon with fancy shampoos, scalp massages and cucumber water but none of that made up for a mediocre cut. Like many barbers, they do not take appointments but because they're so efficient I can't see it being a problem. My husband went at 4:00 on a Wednesday and didn't wait. It's Whyte ave so of course you need to consider parking and they don't have extended hours but all things considered, it seems worth the effort.

When I very politely pointed it out to her, she said all her clients know "what number to ask for, and most of them ask for number two". Well, sorry, you are concerned with number one or two when you go to a toilet. As far as I am concerned, I am not a professional barber, so I do not have to know what these "numbers" mean. And it is YOU, the barber, who should explain this to me BEFOREHAND, and not afterwards, like "Cindy", who stupidly laughing told me "It's too late now". She is the very first Korean I met in my life whose professional ethics is SO low! Well, it's never too late to warn the potential clients how silly and unprofessional that woman is. I do not care if someone sees her as "meticulous". She is meticulously unprofessional and bad as a hairdresser. Avoid her at any cost. I only went to Duke's because I was running errands in the area. I usually go to Lendrum Barber Shop, whose owner never asks about stupid numbers, he just talks plainly and every few minutes stops to ask if he's doing a correct, acceptable job.

As a result, men get the short end of the stick when it comes to seeking out a top-knotch haircut. After lots of average cuts they figure they can do it themselves or get their girlfriend to coif their coconut. All you need is a pair of scissors and that little plastic piece to keep you from cutting slicing open your head, right?! Wrong. Too many guys look half as good as they could because they've never had their hair cut well. At Men's Room you spend an average of $30 for a cut but it's being done by stylists who've studied the best and latest in hair trends for men. It's run by the Crew academy, and was the first men's salon of its kind in Edmonton before other salons, like Game Day and The Board Room started appearing. Now some men get pedicures and wear facial moisturizers, but you don't need to be a metrosexual to want a hot haircut. It's downright manly.

All were quite friendly too. Also never had too much difficulty getting in. I never had the time to take advantage of the free trim that was included, but it's a nice idea to throw in The main reason I stopped going was the location. As I live on the south side, there are plenty of equally good places in the Whyte ave area that are much more convenient. The price is on the high end for a men's cut, especially once you added in a tip. I think it's worthwhile to spend the extra money if you have longer hair where a quality cut matters. But if you get a shorter cut, there isn't much difference between a $50 cut and a $30 cut. As I've recently been going more to shorter cuts, it didn't seem as worthwhile to make the investment in travel time and money. They do seem to be drifting away from the "man" focus. Each time I went, there seemed to be more women getting cuts there. That doesn't bug me, but I think it's maybe a sign their prices aren't matching the demand of Edmonton men.

Also the building he's located in also flooded recently and he had to close down then as well until the landlord cleaned it up. But at least then he was remaining open at a nearby female hair salon. Really the only negative is he doesn't accept credit cards, cash or debit only, but this is in large part why he can keep his prices so cheap. Otherwise he'd be over $20 like most other barber shops. Personally I give him a $20 and let him keep the change as a tip, because he deserves it and could use it too.
