When getting to the top of Holt hill, you will be amazed by the Boston skyline without occlusion. Compared to the breathtaking view at Holt hill, the one at the top of Boston hill slightly disappoints me. It is still an enjoyable walk surrounded by the view of the sunset, but the skyline is missing. You may not get too much out of the elephant rock. Again, overall it is a fantastic place for walking, jogging, and biking.

It is mud season, and there are restrictions- ie: during mud season- no mountain bikes, please pick up your dog poop, carry in/carry out. That being said, there's always the few who break the rules. We were always impressed with the view and put this on our list of interesting places. We finally made it this year! The views were beautiful! One of the things we loved about this place, is the fact there are plaques or narrative cards that show what you are looking at with a little history behind it. There are places for you to sit next to the ranger station. A few hikers were enjoying a snack break while we were there. They were commenting on how dusty and dry it was. (the drought of 2025 - for future readers reference) There's not a lot of shade, so prepare accordingly. There was plenty of parking and plenty of trails and views to enjoy! We loved it!

Forgot the bug spray which would have kept the critters at bay with much of the trail having slow or puddled water. Parking wasn't too crowded, $15 for access to park. Snack and gift shop in the lot and the headquarters building just up the trail. Great restroom facility to use prior to starting the hike as well. Very rocky terrain all the way up, clearly marked with white dots (crosses as well for the return). Enjoyed the fact there were multiple volunteer guides hiking or positioned at locations (one steady at fork for dot/cross) if needed. Had low reception all through the hike for emergencies as well. Beautiful views towards the top and of course 360 once on the summit. Definitely worth the time spent. Pack in pack out, bring water and snacks along with the spray (both bug and sun)! Enjoyed a quick snack on the top with the views and a quick tsp of the marker before heading back down. Time to get up to the peak, what are you waiting for?!

Whether it is ice and snow with trax on or wet leaves on a steep incline, you can bet on a challenge. The most commonly used trail up the mountain is the 2 mile (one way), White Dot trail. It is well marked and easily followed. The elevation gain is rapid, as this is a shorter hike. The views are absolutely stellar from the summit. There is a small shop at the base and you receive a map upon entry with basic guidelines and trails. If you are into the outdoors, I highly recommend this spot! Laces up!

I was SO excited, I was all prepared (over-prepared actually) and had been planning this excursion for months. I didn't get very far, as fear basically paralyzed me the minute that I touched down at the trail. For some reason ALL of the local ATV riders were hyper-aware of my presence (I wonder why that is) and so they were recurrently, in unison, revving up their engines as loud as they possibly could, in some kind of a group signal regarding my being there, alone, hiking, not bothering anyone - but not about anyone else there hiking apparently. Just me. How interesting. My original plan was to stay much longer, hiking to the mountains in the North, but on day 2 I heard someone nailing something against a tree near my tent. When I came out of the tent the next day I saw that someone had nailed a NO TRESPASSING sign riddled with bullets near my camp. On public land. That was really kind of whoever felt that was appropriate. So someone went out of their way to vandalize state park property simply to terrorize me. That was nice. I have attached those photos of the lovely, bullet riddled sign that was meant for me specifically. Thank you for your welcoming spirit New Hampshire. My visit wasn't traumatic at all.
