Headquarters Hair has a very funky, urban feel to it. The decor is to die for. Ikea Creative Directors are cursing themselves for not developing the uber-cute green patterned wall paper and silver accents gracing the large interior of the shop.
I popped in quickly after a day of Bullringing, wondering how much they charged for a cut. The first thing I noticed was the decor, which made the place feel a thousand times chicer than anything else in Brum.
The second thing I noticed was that all the hairdresses were male. As one of them swished up to me and demanded to know what I wanted done with my hair, I thought I'd mistakenly stumbled into a Brighton club.
But no, the testosterone-charged place did indeed serve women, and even confirmed that they had one female hairdresser. But the business was started by two males, and happened to hire mostly male technicians. Fair enough.
They also moved a few appointments around amongst them so that they'd be able to see me if I came back in an hour, which I did.
I had a great cut here. Not amazing or perfect, but very pleasing, and the styling was good too. The stylist actually gave me applicable, real-life tips about how to care for my (then) damaged hair. He described my hair type and told me how to best work it for me. Fabulous little man, please sit on my dresser and style my hair every day.
At £35 for a wash, cut and style, the prices are heading towards the higher end, but certainly reasonable. The atmosphere is casual, with the stylists wearing shorts and flip flops in summer months.
They're closed every Wednesday, or were during the summer. A good time was had by all. read more
