I called on a Thursday afternoon to schedule a Friday morning appointment and they got me in!…read more I haven't had a proper haircut since early February, so this was long overdue. I got booked in with Shannon, who is also new to Headmasters, but has over 10 years of hair cutting experience. I'm always nervous to go to new stylists, as my normal salon in San Mateo always produced the results I wanted. So Shannon and I went over my hair (long layers, medium/thick, natural wave) and she listened to everything and didn't suggest I go any shorter (which I hate, I love having long hair). Shannon went above and beyond! She cut my hair exactly how I wanted (leaving the length but trimming the layers), and did a beautiful job with the styling. We talked about doing an ombre colour in June, too. I can't say enough about the professionalism and atmosphere. They treated me wonderfully, did exactly what I wanted, and didn't push me to purchase any products or get my hair coloured. Better still, I went in for a job interview that afternoon and GOT THE JOB! Thanks again, Shannon!

My hair cut is a tricky one to get right. As a result he only person I trust to put his scissors to…read moremy follicles is Marc Phillpott. So I've followed him from Toni & Guy, to James Bushell in Five Ways, Birmingham and now all the way to The Spa in Leamington. It's a relaxing place to have your hair cut. You start in a separate room with muted colours where hair is washed and where piped tasteful instrumental music plays in the background. Then through to the main cutting room. There's lots of space and the room is well lit. I'm always happy with my cut as Marc has two key skills of a stylist: Experience and the ability to collaborate with me on my cut, suggesting slight changes before he starts. As well as offering cuts and colours, as the name suggests The Spa also offer a range of beauty treatments including the Spa Experience, waxing, epilation and Botox.

The spa is nicely decorated in modern design and includes a hairdressers downstairs and a cafe on the lower level. Upstairs are where the treatment rooms lie. We were warmly greeted by the reception ladies and were taken downstairs to the cafe area to complete a personal details form. This part of the experience felt a bit rushed as we hadn't even finished completing our forms when the therapists came through to collect us for our treatments. We were then taken upstairs into our treatment room. I had opted for a detox body mask and was asked to complete another short form - allergies etc. My therapist was friendly and funnily enough was also called Lydia! The treatment involved lying on a warm massage bed, with a body mask put all over my body and then I was wrapped up in plastic with towels put on top of me so that the heat would work its magic and the mask would penetrate the skin. After about 10mins of relaxation with the lights turned off and cotton pads out over my eyes, it was time to wash the mask off in the shower. A body lotion then followed. I left feeling very relaxed and nicely moisturised. Would love to return and experience the other treatments.

I have been going to Blaze for almost a year now to get a short buzzcut, and have always had lovely…read moreexperiences there but on Saturday I had an awful time. I went in to ask for a number two haircut, all over- very simple, usually takes about 10 minutes. The manager at first frowned and said that wouldn't be possible, when I asked, 'You really don't have any appointments AT ALL?' she said they did, but she would charge me £55. For a shaved head???? That makes literally no sense, I'm not 100% sure where she pulled that number from because firstly, the last few times I've been in I paid £15 or £10 (I've checked past bank statements to confirm this), and secondly on the website it looks like most of their standard haircuts are around £26. She looked me up on the system and said that last time I was in I was charged £22- again, completely false. She said that it was a mistake to undercharge me like that. I have no idea how in the world a buzzcut could ever cost £55, it takes such a short time, I never have any particular styling (just the same length all over), I have an easy hair type to manage and my hair is only about an inch long right now. I have never paid more than £35 for this haircut, and haven't ever been turned away from a salon before. I have suspicions that this was a tad racially motivated. I had brought my sister in to get a haircut. We are both mixed race, but my sister has very thick curly hair and is more obviously black than I am. They turned her away, which honestly I expected because not everybody is trained in that hair type. However, the manager made it weird, was very rude and negative about it, overused the word 'afro' to describe it (no need to make it about race, could have just said 'curly' or 'we're not used to that hair type'- I can't imagine you'd use the word 'afro' if it had been a white girl with thick curly hair come in), kept whispering with other hairdressers in the salon. It seemed like after that, she just didn't want to serve me either and was trying to insinuate that my hair was hard to manage. Again, I've never had a problem before and I've been to plenty of white hairdressers who've done great jobs with my hair even though they don't specialise in black hair. It's an easy haircut and my hair's not particularly thick. I'm always willing to pay a little extra for a good job, but £55 is extremely excessive and frankly ridiculous. I'm also pretty sure it's some kind of discrimination or illegal to let me pay £10 one trip but then say it's £55 another time for the same haircut. That just doesn't add up. I'm so disappointed, I've always loved this place and could rely on it for good service, but now I'm scared to go back in in case I get treated the same or get turned away if the manager is present. The staff have always been fantastic, really friendly and polite and I've always had great haircuts from there and left feeling pampered. It's a shame that the management is so negative and rude.
