It WOULD be a great organization if it actually walked it's talk. They claim to care about the well-being of disadvantaged head start families, especially ones who are at risk of homelessness or who are homeless, yet they do absolutely nothing other than mention this allegation as a means to get more funding for there own pockets.
They claim to have a policy of giving head start parents preference in hiring, yet this is am absolute lie. They have discriminated against me based on my race, pregnancy, and disability on numerous occasions in the hiring process. There is extreme bias towards white people when it comes to hiring for office jobs. It seems they are constantly hiring Mexicans. It is an absolute slap on the face to be told over and over again ridiculous reasons as to why they won't hire me, especially when it's coming from a Mexican who doesn't even understand what job pool preference is, AND who was chosen for her position over me, who has a clear and definitive understanding of how to avoid liability for discrimination in the hiring process and what the concept of "job preference" means.
The first time I was discriminated against, I addressed my concerns to policy counsel, or tried to anyway. My concerns and warnings of future liability went in one ear and out the other. Now here we are again, on strike 3, and they have finally broke the last straw.
An organization cannot claim to give certain individuals hiring preference and then simply not do so. That's a lawsuit waiting to happen.
The executive team is fantastic for the most part, don't get me wrong. They care about kids and work hard. But the lack of overall structure and organization stands out like a sore thumb. No one is one the same page. And the main issue is the fact that they have incompetent and discriminatory individuals in the HR department who attribute 40% weight on whether or not an applicants last name is Garcia or Lopez as opposed to whether or not they are a Head Start parent facing imminent homelessness who is more than qualified for the job.
They're gonna pay for their incompetence too... Oh yes. They will definitely pay. Lol. read more
