There is just so much to do from talking a stroll to the beach to bar hopping at the local bars. Another plus was the Starbucks just literally down the street! Second time around I rented the Royal Beach House, which was in September 2014 for my boyfriend's birthday again. It was an amazing 3-story house with tons of space. This time around it was a bit further from main street, but we were willing to sacrifice that for a larger place. We were blown away yet again the second time around. The parking is $55 which is absurd; I know the location but still cannot forgive any place where you stay that charges their guests for parking whatever the fee is and this was really high. The beds and pillows are terrible pretty much like every single hotel I stay from 50 to $500 a night. The shower pressure is weak. The cabo wabo restaurant inside the hotel which we had a breakfast in the morning was the worst breakfast buffet I've eaten in my life. It was abysmal and makes Best Western's breakfast look like a Ritz-Carlton feast... yes it was that bad. Avoid the buffet portion of the restaurant like the plague trust me on this one. The gorgeous property location balcony pool and overall experience of the hotel kept the rating high as it is truly a magnificent resort feel and you don't feel like you're anywhere near Los Angeles. Walking in the morning beachside and surrounded by lush gardens and beautiful homes. Huntington Pier is about half a mile away with wonderful cafes restaurants and eateries, without the grueling uphill/downhill slope at the main Manhattan Beach pier area. Unfortunately, an additional 35 miles away. Very enjoyable refreshing and surreal experience even with the pesky minor flaws. A total zoo with children everywhere from one month to 10 years and there was a wedding so be prepared. The rooftop lounge was nice and comfy, had a fun night there with mixed food. The beef sliders were beyond awful but the chicken sliders were terrific.... the drinks barely have alcohol in them that's a good thing for a light drinker like me/us. Because we booked through a third-party site, we were completely denied any flexibility or accommodation. To make matters worse, I was repeatedly criticized for not booking directly through Hilton instead of receiving any empathy or assistance. As a parent of a 3- and 5-year-old, I am not willing to risk exposing my children to any potential chemical issue, regardless of how many times staff insisted it was "perfectly safe." We are now out $1,400 simply because we chose to prioritize our children's health and safety. I even offered multiple times to pay an additional fee just to reschedule the stay, but was told "policy is policy." For some families, losing $1,400 and a family vacation may not matter. For ours, it absolutely does. The lack of compassion, flexibility, and customer care was shocking. I would give this hotel zero stars if possible. I have since deleted my Hilton Honors account and will strongly discourage friends, family, and community members from staying at Hilton properties in the future. Extremely disappointing experience from start to finish.

Each experience was unique and provided a ton of family memories. This rental property provides a first-class view of the ocean and is two steps from the boardwalk and beach. Our family and friends have never experienced a more convenient location- in terms of closeness to the beach and within a short walk to the grocery store, bar and grills, local shopping and surf school. We will probably vacation here forever because of the prime location and the owner and her assistant. They are always pleasant and willing to go the extra mile to assure the comfort of our family. Recently, each unit was updated with fresh paint, new tile, and new furniture. There is also a grill provided for summer family BBQs. Within 6days of reservation date, you lose 1 night stay so it was sunk cost so I went ahead and did both nights. Easy to check in and checkout. If you are down the hill, you can get a ride on the golf carts which are very nice. 2 cars overnight as well per cabin. Rooms were clean. There is no AC so be prepared depending on your weather. I wanted to leave windows open but most don't have a screen so you get bugs and I was afraid of critters coming in. Currently there are full cottages (like an Airbnb), dorms (private rooms with shared living space),and three ADA cottages. The prices range from $53 -$338 per space, per night, all year. Reservations for the cottages open up 6 months in advance at 8am, and the dorms open up 1 month in advance at 8am. The max time length is 7 days, per reservation. They are located right on the beach in Crystal cove, with full kitchens, bedding, towels, and toilet paper. The views are GORGEOUS!!! Lots of windows, and there is nothing like falling asleep to the sound of waves crashing. We stayed in 29B which is the loft inside building 29 (4 twin beds and private bath downstairs) so cute, so comfortable, and just a lovely stay! The Beachcomber restaurant is located right on the beach as well, serving breakfast lunch and dinner. SUPER packed in summer, not such much in winter. There is a snack bar area, a couple historical building, and a souvenir shop adjacent to the restaurant. The Shake Shack is up at the top of the cliff, up a huge flight of stairs, on PCH. There is also a private meeting room located next to the reg office if you wanted to host a meeting overlooking the ocean. PLEASE NOTE FOR PARKING: the reg office is located past the ranger station, and you have to drive up there to get your keys and unload your car. Then you are given a parking permit, and have to drive your car across the street (PCH) and walk back to the cottage area, about a 10 min walk with minor hills. For the ADA cottages, you can park very close to the cottage. PRO-TIP: bring your own coffee cups, plates, silverware. Very limited in the cabin

Can't beat the location of the hotel. It's steps away from the beach, boardwalk, bars, restaurants, and other local shops. Everything about the hotel and my room catered to my likes. I had a large double queen with partial views of the ocean. I thought it was cool that they offered a cooler, which would be useful to take out to the beach. The open walk-in shower was made for washing off sand, and I loved that my bathroom also had a tub as well as amenities ready to go for a relaxing salt bath. I used the in-room record player whenever I got the chance. Each room had its own unique record too. My room had Lynard Skynard, but I saw that there was an extensive record library in the lobby for swapping out the music. That said, I opted to use the bluetooth function of the record player to set the mood for my space. As cliche as this sounds, I was in room 311 and played 311 while watching the sunset from my balcony. Lastly, as a yoga instructor I was pleasantly surprised to find a yoga mat in my closet. I also noticed that they offered yoga at 9am on Sundays and provided in-room yoga on the TV. I'd certainly come back to Kimpton Shorebreak next time I stay at Huntington Beach!

The police substation is kitty corner from the back of the hotel too so felt safe! Saw several police cars parked there Saturday afternoon. Hotel parking was expensive but everyone in our group easily found plenty of free overnight parking around the hotel (less than a block from the hotel) on early Saturday afternoon, even though it was a sunny beach perfect day with lot of beach goers. If you're older, this may not be the hotel for you bc it tends to get noisy on Main St & the hotel itself seems to be geared toward 20 something guests or perhaps families visiting with children.
