We got here at 12:40 and they were already prepping for closing time. They close at 1pm. There was very little left, but they were welcoming and offered us to stay as long as we like. The store is well lit with large windows and good lighting. Floors and tables are clean as is the public restroom. There is a real down home charm with the pictures, wallpaper and furniture, almost as if you were in a victorian era shop. This whole area feels very historical and is visible in the architecture of the structures in town. We opted for the last few treats available and were very pleasantly surprised. The Ham and gruyere cheese pastry was absolutely delicious. The ham flavor was rich. Not being familiar with the cheese, the flavor is mild but unmistakable. The pastry itself was very flaky, buttery and light. We arrived at closing and had very little choice of the treats that were left,, but what was left was so good that we are going to note this spot for a return trip during regular hours. read more

Impromptu stop at this cute local bakery shop while we were killing time. I initially thought there would be generic baked goods, but we ended up leaving with 2 boxes with plans to return again. They had a variety of unique baked goods, which included a beef & cabbage bun (not pictured). It was one of our favorites and I am constantly wishing we got more than 1 to share between my husband and I. Michael, who is the owner of Hazella Bake Shop spoke with every person in line who came in. I overheard some of the conversations, and he remembered every local's typical order, their name, and even the conversations they last spoke about when they visited. He also took the time to get to know visitors, including us! You can tell this was more than just a business for him. Based on some reviews I read prior to writing mine, this place is very popular and tends to sell out before closing. I was in Lebanon for my cousin's ceremony and my Airbnb host highly recommended this place. AMBIANCE: Parking: Street parking and there's a small lot too. Seating: Inside and outside seating. Relatively small maybe room for four groups that can accommodate about 20-30 people. Vibes: Lebanon is a very small-town place, it seems like everybody knows each other. The presence in Hazella Bake Shop was welcoming, hardworking, and clean. The decor is simple with minimal flower-decored walls and wooden tables. It's a great place to sit, chat, or grab on the go. FOOD: Strawberry Shortcake (Recommend) Now if you had to get one thing it would be this. This is Lebanon's signature right here and Hazella represents it very well. Blessed with numerous flavors, sweetness, and textures. The strawberry was fresh and sweet, the icing and whipped cream played a nice creamy duo and the shortbread had a nice neutralizing savory yet cinnamony kick to things. Cinammon Bun (Recommend) From my understanding, the difference between a roll and a bun is a roll is sweeter. Their cinnamon buns were delicious. A nice big bun that balanced the dough and cinnamon relatively well. The rock salts helped activate the cinnamon flavors. Naken Street Dog (Recommend) For something savory, this is your best bet. A delicious hot dog wrapped in a flaky savory pastry and surrounded with flavorful caramelized onions. Danish Pastry - Blackberry (Recommend) Delicious! A rich portion of blackberries with flakey layers of bread and stuffed with sweet cream cheese. Raspberry Strudel (Recommend) Your more typical presentation but still delicious delivery of a baked good. Good raspberry jam with a mix of cream cheese all held together with sweet bread. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Ruby was awesome! It was a busy morning rush but she handled like a pro. Interacting with her, she certainly knew her dishes. I later then met the owners, Rebecca and Michael, sweet people! TL; DR OVERALL: 5 Stars. Amazing! This place embodies the Lebanon motto, "The city that friendliness built". From their friendly interactions to the quality of effort they put in their baked goods. It's not easy to be consistent so props to them. I really enjoyed this place - delicious bites, reasonable prices, and certainly a memorable experience. If Lebanon is on your way, treat yourself here at this spot. Hands-down best bakery I've ever been to! They have both sweet and savory pastries, and I have yet to be disappointed by anything I got. Some of my favorites that I've tried - apple hand pie, cinnamon roll, sticky bun, potato knish, beef bierock, strawberry cream croissant (pictured). When you walk into the shop, you can tell that this bakery is a staple in our community. The staff is super sweet and the owner, Micheal, goes the extra mile to make sure everyone feels welcome. They even had a Thanksgiving dinner for students in the area that couldn't go home for the holidays. Truly a special place and worth getting up early to visit! After I finish medical school, I probably won't live in Lebanon anymore, but I will always stop by Hazella's when passing through. Until then, it is my favorite study spot! read more

Hazella is a Lebanon gem and I hope they continue to thrive. This place has delicious baked goods, but the people running the place are the greatest! I always leave the place feeling like I ran into an old friend. I don't know how else to explain it, but it's a good feeling. Everyone is very welcoming and patient. I wish they had labels for what the items are because I am always asking what things are and I feel terrible for bothering them. They're busy people, but I never feel rushed by them. Sunday-Tuesday are sad days in Lebs because Hazella is only opened on Wednesday-Saturday. However, just this past weekend, they started to open on Sundays during limited hours. My favorite thing to get is the gruyere and ham pastry or the almond brioche (? I think that's what it's called). Recently they made a matcha fruit tart and it was amazing. The crust was a matcha crust. Then there was a layer of blackberry, Chantilly pastry cream made with Madagascar vanilla bean and topped with fresh berries. So good. If you're in town on days they are open, I highly recommend stopping by. read more

Went there for the first time today! It was really cute and such an interpersonal experience. Service was splendid and I really appreciated how kind they were!! The pastries were AMAZING I tried their gluten free quiche which had broccoli microgreens on top and it was great, and great size and price. The ham and cheese pastry was one of the best I've ever had and I've had my fair share of pastries in my life from all over the world. Lastly, the apple pastry was sooo delicious - not too sweet, plenty of filling and just yummy. Overall I was floored by how great of an experience I had, and i will definitely be going back! The 1st time in this quaint little bakery, and we were not disappointed. There was a short line at the counter, but that just gave us a few minutes to decide what we wanted to purchase. We both decided to get this raspberry shortbread cookie/ cake pastry. I was there with my friend and we got two each, one for ourselves and one for our husbands. Stopped in after seeing on Yelp and glad we did! The place was packed with people who seemed to be enjoying themselves. So many treats to choose from it was hard to decide so we got most of the items. When we were checking out the young girl at the counter asked if we had been there before. We told her we were visiting from out of town so she said we had to try some other treats and began loading us up with more free of charge. We will definitely go back. I saw another review on Yelp that called Hazellas a "gem of Lebanon" and after visiting I couldn't agree more! If I could give them 10 stars I would. The pastries both sweet and savory were really perfection. Even something as simple as a classic almond scone was just luxurious. There was only drip coffee with creamer but even that was well made. I am a small bakery lover and will definitely be coming back! But best of all, this place has just top notch hospitality. Something that is so special and rare these days. We visited Hazella Bake Shop for the second time in two years from out of state. Michael, the owner recognized us and recalled our visit. If you are visiting Portland a short trip, 80 miles south, is not too far to go to visit this delightful bakery. It is open Wed-Sat 7-2, get there early. I have visited this bakery on numerous occasions. I find them to be moderately expensive but usually good quality until this last visit. I have had some lovely pastries but the cinnamon raisin roll last Sunday 12/18 was really poor quality. It was dry and tasteless. The display case had little to choose from as is always the case when we visit but normally not open on sundays. We arrived early but we did not care for this last purchase - 2 pastries for $9 with no icing/frosting. read more

I feel a little misguided by the reviews or maybe I went to the bakery on a bad day. But there were only a few trays in their bakery case. And then a few trays sitting on top of the counter lying out with everyone breathing on them. My brother-in-law asked about gluten-free pastries but he later got sick. So there was possibly some cross-contamination and the pastry not actually gluten-free for people who have real gluten allergies. They also didn't have any of fancy drinks posted in the pics - I was just told packet tea and drip coffee. I am really confused by the pics and excellent reviews. read more
