Pretty pricey. Rolls are decent but I wouldn't say amazing. Barely get any sushimi at a $20 price point. $70 for two people to have lunch is a bit redic. The iced green tea isn't that great either... We had a 3 star dining experience here. The food was good and the prices were OK, but the service was very slow. More than 4 people ended up serving us throughout dinner which was kind of strange. The place didn't seem that busy but it seemed like the staff was kind of overwhelmed, despite having an adequate number of people working. read more

Me and my girlfriend are big sushi lovers and love trying new places. We decided to give Hayashi a go. It was a Wednesday evening around 6pm the staff was very polite and seated us right away. The area was clean and cozy with a nice atmosphere. We got a Kirin and a miso to start. Beer was cold and miso was very good. We split 6 rolls, 2 over $13 and a few miscellaneous rolls(spicy tuna...) the expensive rolls were good, but nothing to write home about and the standard rolls were just ok at best. I wouldn't steer anyone away from Hayashi, but I also would point them in that direction. The price was also very high for the amount we got, it was about $80 for two with a tip. read more

Well - Not being the EXPERT in Sushi I gave Hayashi a try, it is close to where we live and for a long time we wanted to try it. We had Sushi Rolls and Tempura with Green Tee. We liked it all, fresh and the Tempura was delicious. We will go back and try the BOX (it looked like a sampling of many items). On a Friday evening the place was BUSY! With around 40-50 seats there was sometimes a short waiting line. Clean place, friendly and efficient service, maybe too fast to put the check in front of you to clear the table, so not a place to have a long dinner. This place never disappoints. The sashimi is always fresh and the rolls are inventive and tasty. The bloody tuna roll is the bomb if you like spicy. Don't forget to order a Marly salad. It's not on the menu but it's awesome. Fresh salmon & tuna with cucumbers, squid, avocado, seaweed all in a delicious sauce. I eat at some it the finest restaurants and this one never lets me down. While I have not tried everything on the menu, Hayashi is a great sushi dining experience. The dining area is pretty small, since located in a strip mall. The food and service are always good and exceeds expecations each time. Prices are comparable and the value is good. You must try the Suni Maki roll - great combination of crunch, fish egg, fish and other flavors all in one (Definately added to my Best of List!!). read more

We simply can't find sushi that is done as consistently good, interesting, and at this value point. We live in Chicago and have tried over 10 sushi restaurants in our neighborhood, but if price/value is a consideration, The Lawrence Fish Market in Chicago and Hayashi in the norther burbs are our two top sushi restaurants. The reason this place got 3 stars is I feel it is overpriced. The sushi is good but not great and they don't have brown rice option which is weird bc most places do. If you charge so much, at least offer brown rice option. Also the waitresses/waiters are good but I feel as though sometimes they try to rush you...otherwise the sushi is good and fresh read more

This is THE BEST place to get sushi. The only thing i don't like about it is that it gets a bit crowded. Other then that it is simplely the best. Multiple times i have gone there and asked the sushi chef to PERSONALLY make me sushi rolls that aren't on the menu, that he has made from only his inspiration. I give him a dollar amount and he goes to work... The true measure of any chef is to be able to not just prepare great food from a recipe, but be able to do it on the fly without warning. It's your typical sushi, not too adventurous, a little generic and the presentation could use a little bit of work. The sushi is good and fresh, and nicely priced and take out is always on time when they say it will be. Overall I like the sushi here, and some of their chefs are better than others with presentation, but it's better than average but not good or great. We go here fairly frequently because it's the only sushi in the area for lunch, but I'd never go here for dinner or take a date here personally. read more

Personally I can see why this place is popular because of my wife. Lets take her favorite, the tempura vegetable roll: deep fried tempura batter, mayo, wrapped in rice. Warning: may contain traces of vegetables. I'll be real here - if you put a bowl of tempura batter, rice, and mayo in front of me, i'm eating it. However, that's not what I am looking for when I go to a sushi place. I want sushi that is made to enhance the flavor of the fish or whatever is in the sushi. The specialty rolls I have ordered from Hayashi compliment, but drown out the main ingredients with their various sauces that are applied to everything. I've had their sashimi as a baseline, and it was mediocre, and I think that is the whole idea of Hayashi - they are making the most out of what they have, while trying to appeal to the widest range of pallets. And if you don't have the highest quality fish or most skilled kitchen staff, you get creative, which Hayashi has done. read more

Just moved to the region and miss the quality and availability of Asian food, relative to Seattle. Hayashi is the best of the Japanese restaurants we have tried so far. The pork tonkatsu was quick fried, hot, fresh, and the portion was large. The sushi rolls were fun, with fresh ingredients also. The salad was wet--they do need to spin the lettuce. A funny note was when the Chinese waitress tried to tell me what "ichiban" meant; we are both Japanese-American and often have been disappointed with Korean and Chinese-run Japanese restaurants, but Hayashi was very good. read more

Hands down, the best in the area. Unbelievable that in the middle of, well, almost nowhere, we would find this place hidden next to a bagel place. We have been going here since 2006 and it has been, without fail, amazing every single time. The sushi chef has always done an amazing job and gone out of his way to do a little extra for our kids. This place has the best sushi in the area by far! This is a very small restaurant in a strip mall, but the inside is very nice and it has authentic, delicious sushi. I think people need to relax a little because a piece of plastic accidentally fell into a cup and the waiter didn't notice because they were busy with lots of customers. The reason they have lots of customers is the food is excellent. It was an accident. I'm sure they brought her a new glass of water. I don't think it's too pricey for the value that you get. The food quality is excellent. If I'm eating raw fish, I want to make sure they are serving fresh fish. I'm sure you can get cheaper sushi at Jewel if you prefer or at a gas station. But as for me, I wouldn't want to take a chance and I would rather pay extra for something that is great. read more

Yum yum!!! This is one of my favorite sushi spots in suburbia. Prices are fair, people are friendly and the food is deee-lish! I absolutely love the spicy tuna roll and the Moon River Roll. I capitalize Moon River Roll so it stands out... so you order it!! My favorite sushi roll, ever! The raw sushi is very fresh and they have some of the best super white tuna around. If we lived nearby I would make frequent trips here to dine! 3 1/2 days is too far to travel for dinner! To start with they have a spectacular salad dressing made with Lemon and probably white miso. It is so good I always drink what is left! The miso soup is always piping hot and yummy. We have tried almost everything and really enjoyed the selection from appetizers to main dishes. My least favorite was the Teriyaki Steak a better cut is needed, but all of the Sushi, Sashimi and other dishes are great. Not worth the price. $15 for a lunch special roll that looked like something just thrown on the plate.

My family orders takeout from here a lot and we always customize orders. They always repeat back our orders and we never have any issues! The one time they messed up, they let us keep the incorrect order as they made a new one, free of charge. We've been Hayashi customers for over 8 years and we look forward to ordering more food from them in the future. :) read more
