Will Rogers Archway Oasis - Will Rogers Archway Oasis, Vinita

    Will Rogers Archway Oasis

It is just west of the Vinita entrance https://www.yelp.com/biz/ok-turnpike-toll-plaza-vinita?hrid=ZmlJxbkw2ayuq_yBPFLQkg so if you're headed east from there, you'll miss out. Easy to access from either side and with plenty of parking. Inside, lots of toilets, good shopping and a nice spot to literally have an oasis in the middle of otherwise very boring Oklahoma plains. Gas station outside with plenty of space for larger vehicles, McDonald's and a nice gift shop with Oklahoma and Route 66 trinkets. Overnight parking is not permitted and there is no shade out here at all. [Review 19776 overall - 135 in Oklahoma - 748 of 2023.]

Pro tip: Don't drink a sip of anything between the MO state line and this stretch of I-44. I've driven to Tulsa twice from KC (and back), and found myself stopping here all four times. In addition to tons of gas pumps, the bathrooms are reasonably clean, there's a McDonald's (meh) and some traditional gas station snacks, and most importantly, it's super easy to veer off and back onto the road. I also kind of like the big glass archway overlook; while not scenic by any stretch, it's kind of fun to see the cars whizzing by beneath you. If you're like me and prefer to pull off far away from any city traffic, this is a spot you'll naturally gravitate to, and it's a small benefit to paying the $5 toll along this route.

Fuel was $3.11 per gallon here, and just four miles down the road it jumps to $3.49 per gallon. That alone makes this place worth pulling into. At this interchange, Buc-ee's paid for roundabouts on both sides, which is highly efficient. It's a brilliant idea and enables smooth traffic flow everywhere. This Buc-ee's has been here for about three years according to Brisket Bill, and it already feels like a staple stop. I stood there watching them chop fresh brisket and almost went with the Big Buckin' Brisket Sandwich XXL... but it was just two buckin' much for me. This is a nine dollar sandwich and worth every penny! It is outstanding! I did hear employees mumbling something about brisket on something. Maybe they were just bored and wanted to chop brisket. Maybe that's what they were saying. Since they already have a brisket Bill here in Springfield, Missouri, maybe I can be Brisket Bill in Huber Heights, Ohio! what's a 90 minute commute anyways? Large! Store is clean, fully stocked and staff is very nice.

Prices are very competitive and they're all within a cent of each other, and inexpensive to boot. With the extra 10 cents off per gallon for being a Love's Rewards Member, Love's was an easy choice to fill up today. The station is easily accessible from the interstate and the pump area is wide enough for your larger vehicle. Inside, lots of grab-and-go food, a variety of rolled meats on the hot dog grill and options for hot and cold drinks. Restrooms are clean, too. Be sure you're giving way to those truckers. They might not see you and they don't stop quickly with those loaded trailers. [Review 1509 of 2025 - 481 in Missouri - 25060 overall]

It's a pain in the butt because you do have to get off the highway and drive for a few minutes. But now it's even worse . It's not this place's fault specifically. It's the construction. To get off the freeway and to get to the gas station took 25 minutes. And to get back on the freeway, took an additional 20 minutes. My husband was very upset. Pros: this has been a very trusted stop for many years. But I don't think we'll be coming back here ever again.

(see at end) The room on the first floor (sub-basement) is clean, maintained and adequate. Tourist Class (TravelerWeekly.com) and 2-star hotel (google). The tub/shower stall and bathroom fixtures are well maintained. The lobby was small and well maintained. The front desk clerk was friendly and the only "service" to rate was the check-in and check-out. No rug, so take your slippers. Overall, this presents as the OLDER MOTEL that it is. Small room size (like the 1990's), dark furnishings and colors (including the hallways). The sink counter is adequate (by taking turns to use). No alarm clock, no coffee maker, fridge not working. The room seems quiet, the A/C is not too noisy, and it muffles noises. Guests walking above could be heard. How can a hotel not accommodate the handicapped? The lowest floor access is down a steep RAMP! It lies partially below ground level. Plus, no elevator! So, you need to use stairs to reach the upper 3 floors! It's amazing that no other reviews commented about this!? No luggage cart. Lug your bags up the stairs or carefully down the steep ramp (it's likely not ADA compliant). No covered unloading. So, unload on the driveway at the side door and then move vehicle to parking at the back side. (reverse that when depart). The breakfast nook is adequate, small and with only 4 tables and 6 chairs. Minimal fixings are provided, such as cereal, yogurt, twinkies/cupcakes, etc. No hot food except waffle iron, no margarine, no toaster (no bread). Denny's Restaurant is only a couple of hundred feet from the motel. Built 1995; remodel 2005; redesign bathroom and bedding in 2010; and 2016 remodel. This renovation was part of a larger effort by Wyndham to enhance the brand's image and customer experience following their acquisition of La Quinta." One Veteran's Parking Spot also is a Wyndham feature. Its difficult to see/find the access the feeder road to the motel. Aim for the Waffle House and go left. To exit, literally drive through the Cenex Gas fuel pump area to the stop light. The motel is at the end of a dead-end street adjacent to the I-44 R-O-W. The empty concrete pad of the demolished Sunrise Motel is a bleak view out the back. So, along with a large wooded, brushy area nearby, it has the appearance of maybe a somewhat sketchy area? The only thing we had trouble with was the cooktop that had a spill from previous guests and when we turned it on it smoked like crazy. We shut it down and added that to the dishwasher so we could use it the next night. Plenty of parking. It's a bit weird to enter the hotel lot, but once you figure out that your going past other hotels you'll do great. I would stay there again if I was in the area.

Every single staff member was wonderful, from the folks at the front desk to the breakfast ladies to the housekeepers to the maintenance men. Julio was very helpful when I called ahead of time with questions about our reservation. Special kudos to Dezaray at the front desk, who was on duty all weekend. She is the epitome of hospitality! We felt so welcomed on check-in; she was friendly and efficient and gave us lots of information about local sites and restaurants. My friend and I played board games in the evenings on both nights of our stay, and Dezaray was so accommodating: turning down the volume on the TV so we could hear each other and making sure we had snacks and drinks available. We chatted with her about our adventures each day and gave her feedback about her restaurant recommendations. It was such a good feeling to walk in the front door and see Dezaray at the front desk, welcoming us "home". Thank you! The breakfast every morning (included in the cost of the room) was EXCELLENT! They had lots of different fresh fruit (bananas, apples, oranges and blueberries) as well as dried apricots and other healthy options. The buffet included everything from eggs to breakfast meats to potatoes to yogurt to breads to the marvelous waffle machine. And, of course, milk (including soy milk) and juices and coffee! There was always ample seating (although we were there at opening each day, and it may get busier later in the morning). We appreciated having the water coolers in the breakfast area and gym room to keep our water bottles full. Our room was spacious and well-appointed, with two queen-size beds, a bureau (which also contained the room fridge and microwave and held the TV), nightstand, armchair, desk area with office chair, closet and bathroom. We appreciated the European model of the toilet and shower/tub being separated from the sink/vanity area. Despite the lodge's proximity to the highway, our room was quiet and we both slept well. It was easy to adjust the temperature (which was handy since our window faced east). The housekeeping staff was very accommodating, as we declined full services but asked for fresh towels each day. We were sad that the pool wasn't open yet, but we understand, given the cooler weather. We were also sad that there was no hot tub available, as that would have been very nice after hiking all day. There is a gym room which looks like it's filled with all necessary equipment, but we never used it. The lodge's location is very handy: adjacent to Hwy 60, near drug stores and restaurants, and just a few minutes from downtown Neosho. The area is very safe: well-lit with grassy areas surrounding the property for guests with pets to exercise. We did encounter two maintenance issues during our stay. The first was that the tub stopper would not stay in the "up" position to drain the tub while taking a shower (we used a clothespin to keep it open). The second was a faint odor of mold from the carpet underneath the vanity/sink, where there must have been a prior leak. I brought both of these issues to the attention of the manager as I was checking out, and she promised to address them. My friend said how much she enjoyed staying at the Big Spring Lodge, and I agree! We will definitely return on our next visit to the Neosho area. Thank you for a marvelous stay!
