Born and raised here. It's a decent place and has it's good and bad parts. Stay on the west side of Hawthorne and you'll be good.

You absolutely have to see a film at the Old Town Music Hall!!!!…read more We went for my partners birthday and it was so exciting to see the 100 year old Wurlitzer in all its glory. We saw a rare Gloria Swanson silent film along w a talk by a brilliant film historian. Every show opens with a little performance but we were lucky enough to see a silent film which means that the organist live scores the entire film just as it would have been done in the 20s ! Such a special experience, and a must for any fans of music, film, and LA history.

I'm constantly going to revival and old theaters like The Egyptian, New Beverly, and Aero theatre and wanted to add this one to the rotation. Essentially, they transport you back in time to the early 20th century when movie theaters started taking off! And not just about the old films they show, we're talking OG Dr. Pepper in a glass bottle and lobby cards and photos on the wall. A giant Wurlitzer organ where our organist started off the night's festivities with a few words of history and a few songs on the organ. We even did some sing-alongs lol. Everyone in the red vests are volunteers keeping this running. You can sense the deep passion they all have for preserving this history and a deep love of cinema. Got a brochure calendar for showings through June and will now make sure I come out at least once a month.

Parking…read moreis free (at least for two hours) if you park at the lot that is connected to the library. You can either walk around or cut through the path to get to the main entrance. The bottom floor is mostly kids media as well as DVDs, and when I went the library itself was pretty quiet, so that was a pleasant surprise. The construction of the building was nice to look at as well, with a lot of glass and stainless steel, and there were also a ton of art features, such as the hanging jellyfish when you walk up the stairs to the second floor. There are rentable study rooms, but also a good amount of tables and chairs, and most of the tables had their own outlets to use as well, making this a great place to study. I took up a spot at a table that faced the ocean, and it was just so calm and serene. I would come again, as it wasn't too busy from 1-3 PM.

This was my first time ever stopping here, and boy was I impressed for a public facility! And while my home public library in Culver City is up to the task and gets the job done, the environment here is on another level all together. Perhaps it has something to do with looking out on the mighty Pacific right? Lol Leslie and Ann were super helpful immediately upon entry as my guest and I had never been here before. In addition to their great customer service, the cleanliness of the facility also stands out. Would highly recommend to anyone.

The person who answered the phone just told me to try again online but using a different web browser. So I tried that and still got the same error message. I then tried to email them my request, and the email response I got was to use the online form. We went back and forth multiple times on email, with me explaining that the online form wasn't working, and they kept telling me to do it online. I kept trying the online form for 3 days, but it was still giving me the same error message after I submitted my documents online. This was getting ridiculous. I asked again if I could apply via email, because the website says you can do that. So they finally accepted my documents via email. Even though the website said the office wasn't open for pickup, they gave me the option to have the pass mailed to me or for me to go in to pick it up in person. So that was nice. I just had to let them know what time I would be arriving, so we could exchange my check and the parking pass at the door.

They have somehow convinced themselves they have control over the citizens of Hermosa Beach when they are actually glorified cashiers who are there to give me my yearly parking pass. That's it. I also love that they publicly post people's identification and credit cards open for anyone to steal. See picture, where I actually blur out the numbers.
