It's a very nice library! Lots of natural sunlight with the big windows and lots of seating with plugs as well. They have a few parking spots right outside for 2 hours but right down the street is a neighborhood where you can parallel park and just walk over! There's no time limit for the neighborhood parking. I don't know if El Segundo Public Library is an old library, one that has been remodeled, or a little of both. If not from the area, or this particular suburb of Los Angeles, it's hard to tell. I've only known about this library in recent years. For a lot of So Cal people, or even West Side people, El Segundo isn't a place to which they typically go. They might skirt its northern boundary along Imperial Highway, which divides the small city from the LAX airport property. They may skirt its beach side via Vista del Mar en route to the trendier South Bay beach cities. And they might skirt it more quickly going north-south along either Sepulveda Blvd. or the San Diego Freeway. Realistically, it's a quiet town with a well maintained and quaint downtown, a few old school eateries, and their own small civic center, which includes this library. The El Segundo Library is a very good library. It's fairly roomy, with tall ceilings, good lighting, and a lot of windows. The library appears to be one level upon entering, but there is also a lower level, which accounts for some of that roominess. The library staff is polite and reference librarians are friendly and helpful in a relaxed way. There are some larger reading rooms, private rooms, individual study tables, some comfortable upholstered seating, and large tables where people can park themselves. The collection appears to be large and there are many computers. I found this library because, while at nearby Clutter's Park, I needed to charge my phone, use a desktop computer, and do some personal organizing. It's not that far south of Clutter's Park, which sits on the hilltop arterial of Imperial Highway and overlooks LAX. Parking at the El Segundo Library is easy to find, either in various lots or on the streets. One just needs to heed the parking signs. Speaking of Clutter's Park, the El Segundo Library is the perfect complement to it in the sense that you can do two nerdy things, one after the other. Clearly, I jest, since plane spotting and acquiring knowledge are more fun and educational than they are nerdy. read more

I haven't been to a library in forever! I was always under the impression that we had to have a library card in order to get in. The El Segundo Public Library is in a quiet part of the neighborhood. Parking was a cinch along with finding a place to sit inside. It was definitely an adjustment for me, environment wise -- I haven't been in a quiet work space probably since my college days. The level of noise really helped to make me focus on what I wanted to get done. Being "in the zone" I wanted more time to work, but they were closing in about 10 minutes. There was so much to explore -- I had no idea (or did I when I was a kid at my local public library) that there were magazines that could be checked out. I saw little private work rooms as well which reminded me of my college campus's library. Free Wi-Fi, florescent lights to keep you awake, tables, rooms, comfy chairs, computers, and though there were many others inside, it didn't seem crowded. read more

El Segundo has an ancient Public Library. There are a bunch of old literature books and modern books to read. Library is fairly large in the downtown area. Great staff and quiet patrons here. Staff are helpful and womderful here. Plenty of magazines and childrens books to check out. Its a must see library to visit. read more

The renovations in the library were much needed and they are satisfactory. Nice tables with outlets for charging and new furniture. Awesome - thanks for the upgrade guys. :) Still, this library only gets four stars because the staff doesn't want to or is scared to tell all the children (ages 5 to 15) that they need to use their inside voices on the main floor and to stop F***ING running everywhere. read more

Did I just walk into Pleasantville? As Stefon would say, this library has everything: private reading/study rooms, ample lighting, various seating options with outlets, a clean environment, and a populated yet quiet atmosphere. For some reason, the restroom key is available from 2-6, otherwise the doors (next to a framed picture of Nicolas Cage) are open. The landscaping is immaculate and complete with a retired Marine doing Tai Chi. I bet they have fast wifi too, but you need a library card to access. Aside from the guy sitting across from me muttering expletives to himself, this library is perfect. read more

A library that receives county funds, yet refuses to be part of the county system. They also seem to have a major spider problem, making this a less than ideal place to bring your kids, let alone anyone in the general public (there was a rather large and noticable web in the ceiling). To be fair, I didn't ask the spiders if they were poisonous, so it COULD be okay. So I have to sign up for ANOTHER library card, despite the library residing in LA County. Oh, but they are unnecessarily restrictive with addresses, so I would have to pay $40 annually as I am "out of their area." Nice way to keep the undesirables (non-whites) from using their services. According to their website: "library cards are free [...] for most citizens living in the greater Southern California area." This is an outright lie, and the people in charge should be ashamed of themselves. read more

This place is the best! We can walk here and love the fact that they have free concerts, book fairs, kids' story times, Santa Claus visits, teen nights, etc etc etc. The children's section is so much fun for my son who loves puzzles. Solid library, definitely will be back. Here's the scoop: Staff - I respected the fact that they were on. My coffee? Ok. Granola bar? No. I respect that. They staff also reminded the young pre-teens to keep it down. I appreciate that. When two groups of tutors were talking loudly, they ignored that. Not cool. Space - great space. Old but functional. Seats are comfortable and the open space is great. I didn't have trouble finding outlets or a nice space to get some work done. The bonus is that bathrooms are clean and large enough to accommodate the traffic of people in the library. No waiting. Location - This is a fantastic location. Public parking right across the street and 2-hour spaces along the street of the library itself. What's a little annoying is it's right next to a high school or something because after two or three in the afternoon you get lots of kids streaming in and it gets a little noisier. Overall, for someone who need to get some things done, use the internet, restroom and maybe get the latest scoop via the car magazines, they've got it all. Solid. read more

I love this library for studying. Nice meeting rooms. Staff is always helpful. The book selection is limited but healthy for the size of the library. The grounds are very beautiful. Truly one of the best gems in the City of El Segundo. Community events for children and the whole family! Enjoyed reading a few trade magazines this morning then returned mid-afternoon for a lovely "Concert in the Library". The A/C was out while I was there today but it was not uncomfortable at all. Might have been different if it was out on a hot summer's day. By the way, the concert was amazing and the musicians were all 1st class. Stop in sometime when u can pull yourself away from social media to enjoy a delightful quiet time in the El Segundo Public Library. The computers need an upgrade, but apart from that this is my favorite library ever. Superb staff and a beautiful location within a park environment make it a rare spot for reading, contemplation and critical thinking. Huge comfy chairs for a slow afternoon, amazing views to Library Park populated by huge, ancient trees, and a first class children's section completely separate on the lower floor. I have been visiting with my infant for two years and it never ever disappoints. The library runs wonderful activities and events for kids. Very child friendly. They understand that a little noise is inevitable as the tiny ones acquire library protocol, but the youngsters are always completely separate from the main library. Private meeting rooms and reading rooms upstairs are available with reservation. A real gem in the library universe. Simply beautiful. Highly recommended. read more

This library seemed great. The person I spoke with behind the counter was really friendly. I wish that I could say I had a great experience here. BUT: I went in one afternoon to try to open an account. The gal behind the counter asked for my ID, which I gladly handed over. The address on my ID hadn't been updated from when I lived near San Diego, and after seeing it, she remarked, "Hmm, I'm not sure if you're in our library's network." She pulled out a giant three ring binder and started leafing through, looking at different highlighted California city names. "Nope, you're not in our system." I figured, "No big whoop, I'm not in their system. What's the big deal?" The big deal is this: The El Segundo Library requires a $40 "deposit" if you have an ID with an address outside of the city or its' surrounding counties. Unreal. Pure white hot insanity logic. Look, I know we're all going through hard times. Especially public and government-funded institutions. But I've lived all over the country, and I've never, ever, ever been asked to pay a fee for starting a library account, anywhere; letalone have I been asked to pay a free that is about six times what the current minimum wage is. Don't they understand that the reason people go to the library is because they are poor? read more

I've been coming to this library for about 5 years and now more consistently since January of this year. It is across the street from the El Segundo HS. There are also a lot of places to eat around the area :) This library is quite small compared to other libraries, but it is still a great place to study. Whenever I'm in the area for work or visit or see my parents I just come to this library to get some studying in first :) WIFI: In order to access the wifi you have to have a library card. Go to the resource desk and show them your library card and they will give you a piece of paper with the wifi on it. BOOK SALE: When you first walk in, about 6 steps in front of you, they have a lot of books on the side for sale. They range from .50 cents to $2. I've bought a lot A LOT of books here. Especially ones that are about $7-10 bucks on Amazon I get for $1 here! If you go further in on the left side, they have A LOT more books on the bookshelf for sale. I didn't know this until a few months ago. ROOM RESERVATION: You must call ahead and reserve by phone. No library card needed, just your first name and last name initial. There are about, I want to say 5-7 rooms? CHILDREN'S SECTION: Downstairs there is a huge collection of childrens books and play/tables/study area for children BATHROOMS: The restrooms are located downstairs and in the back of the library MEETING ROOMS: Downstairs, I believe there is one or two rooms for events. If needed, call ahead to make a reservation. I know that Toastmasters used to meet up here. STUDY AREAS: There are a lot of cubicles and some study tables. I would give this library 6 stars if I could. -extremely nice lady at the circulation desk named Norma -free WiFi (you need to apply for a library card, which takes 2 minutes with your drivers license) -huge practically floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking a pristine, lush and verdant lawn -plenty of tables, cubicles and wall plugs -printing for $0.15/page -pretty architecture on the outside, tasteful wall hangings on the inside -peace and quiet -DVD rental for $1.50/3 days -average sized book collection, with children's in the lower level The people of El Segundo care about their library, and it shows. I haven't been to a public in ages. I work in the area and was searching for a quiet place to study, so I decided to give this place a try. There are individual study stations lining agaisnt the windows. This place is SOOOO quiet, I love it! It's quieter than some college libraries. They have a separate floor for the kids section, so you won't have to worry too much about them running between aisles screaming. Parking is definitely not bad at all. There's street parking all around. If you're here for max 2 hours then there usually is a spot open out in front. If you're planning to be here longer, you'll just have to look on the opposite street where there's no time limit. Double check the signs though cause there is street cleaning on Tuesday though. I guess I'd give this library 3.5 stars if I could. I live a few blocks away and needed to get some reference books for work so that I could work from home. When I looked up books I'd be interested in on the catalog system, you have to make sure the books are there and not in the high school library. A lot of the books I wanted suggested to "check shelves" and almost all of them were MIA. You can access your library account online which is nice so you can renew remotely. And they of course have book drops outside. The space itself is very pretty and everyone is friendly so I rounded up to 4 stars. read more

Best library around. The hours are amazing and the staff are so sweet and helpful... I am here 4 days a week as I homeschool my daughter. They just opened up a new remodeled area which created a much more open feel and lets the light in. My daughter and I were the first guests to work seated in the new area which was a nice change from the usual rooms we check into...there are several available to book for two hours a day. There's a nice selection of computers for use along with a printer and scanner. Great selection of books, movies and audio is available as well. They will gladly help your find what you're looking for or order it for you if need be. The lower level kids section is such a treat. They have story time as well as arts and crafts for the tykes, teens and adults 18 years and over. There are also several different types of classes for the community as well, including yoga outside on the lawn. We love the photo displays of yesteryear in El Segundo which grace the walls and display cases. If you're looking for a place to embrace the past of El Segundo, you have to check out the display room with the old artifacts (the proper name escapes me right now) but it's amazing! This is a place for families and researchers alike. Such a gem in walking distance to the beach. We love this place, it really feels like home. read more

This is a classic neighborhood library that reminds me of the kind I grew up with in the 60's. They have ample amounts of books, plenty of rooms to study in, vintage art adorning the walls, CD's, videos, magazines for loan, and a friendly staff. They have a wonderful downstairs youth section, too. And they offer events on a variety of topics. The only drawback is they charge for movie rentals. read more

They have plugs in the floor for me to use for my laptop right at the table or desk. I can use their wi-fi or my personal hot spot. The people who work there are very friendly and helpful. And if I need fresh air, there is a small park right outside! Great parking selections also! read more

Great small library. But they have an issue with there wifi several times a year. With the expensive tax base, there should be no reason for having any issues connecting your laptop to there wifi. I work as a nanny in the city of El Segundo. I been doing this for 22 years. I had worked most to the time on the west side area this is my first job in the South Bay Area. As a nanny one my jobs to take the children to the library and check out some books for the children to take home to read at bed time. So I'm a very responsible person I don't like to feel responsable for somebody else stuff so I asked for the children parents to get a library card for me then I can check out the book for the their children. But recently the staff from the library find out the I had been using my bosses card to check out the books, For the children. Now they make me feel like criminal. Every time when I try to check out a book I have to prove to them with ID who I am, I feel a Lot of discrimination and I feel the they are so racist maybe because I Latina. read more

Probably the best public library I've ever been to! I come here when I don't feel like driving to my school campus to study. Plus it opens at 9am (except Fri-Sun) I've noticed most public libraries here do not open till 11am or noon! Decent sized library with lots of tables/individual desks. It can get a bit noisy after 3pm when the teeny boppers start to come in but it's like that at any public library. Friendly staff and surprisingly clean bathrooms! Free wifi..just ask for the password at the reference desk. Plenty of easy street parking! read more
