And while my home public library in Culver City is up to the task and gets the job done, the environment here is on another level all together. Perhaps it has something to do with looking out on the mighty Pacific right? Lol Leslie and Ann were super helpful immediately upon entry as my guest and I had never been here before. In addition to their great customer service, the cleanliness of the facility also stands out. Would highly recommend to anyone.

Not only do I love Hello Kitty but I also love reading. This was collab between LA County Library and Hello Kitty and Friends was simply calling my name. It was my first time to visit the Lawndale Library. I've been at a nearby hair salon a few times but have never stopped by before. I was so happy to check this library out. It small, cute and clean. I also found the employees here to be hard working and efficient. I was able to get my new library card quickly which gave me plenty of time to check this library out. Overall, I was impressed with Lawndale library and looking forward to visiting again and using my new Hello Kitty and Friends library card!

One thing that really surprised me was their huge DVD collection. They have rows and rows of movies and TV shows you can check out for free. It's a great reminder that you don't need another streaming subscription to find something to watch. The children's section is absolutely adorable. They have plush animals perched on top of the bookshelves that make the perfect little reading buddies for kids. It's such a sweet touch that makes the space feel welcoming and fun for young readers. Every librarian I've interacted with has been incredibly kind and helpful. If you have a question or need help finding something, they're always happy to point you in the right direction. If you're in good standing with the library, you can apply to enter between 9 am to 11 am. The back entrance near the parking lot has a new device which scans your library card and requests your password. I'm told that there will not be staff to assist, but it's a convenient new service which will allow us to pick up holds and to use self checkout before they formally open. Granted, I have only been here post renovation as much of the equipment seems close to new to me, but it speaks volumes as it is in stark contrast to the other library in Gardena (Mayme Dear). There is NO foul smell whatsoever and there is NO interference from the unhoused visitors. In fact, they hold babies and toddler story times here, along with age-appropriate accompanying toys, and there has never been an issue. The librarians here are caring and want a connection with visitors. They are quick to chat and help with any library-related needs. They are kind in their dealings with everyone. By that I mean my loud young kids have been shushed by librarians before at other branches but never here. Not that they're allowed to be disruptive here but again, just handled with gentleness and care. The kids librarian Irene is the best as well as the tall gentleman with glasses who appears to be the manager. And yes, there is a security guard always present and vigilant. Side note: there is an excellent taco truck just outside and also a to-go legit French bakery down the block (Frogs Bakery-morning hours) that supplies all your fancy coffee places with quality baked croissants and muffins that you would expect more in Irvine than Gardena.

So if you reserve it online, you can have pretty much any book you want. The staff is friendly and resourceful. And it keeps getting more resourceful. I just found out that I can now print from my laptop! I am on my way to the library to try it out :-) If you need a quiet place to study or work, you just need to know what the best hours are because during the school year, the first hour after school gets out it's super loud. That means it's not a quiet time. BUT it means that it's a safe space for the students to be - and both the schools and the library are always working to improve on student behavior. And I don't hold the library responsible for student behavior (what a strange concept. The librarians are not baby sitters!). And I HAVE spent many hours working and/or studying here.

There's adequate parking in their covered lot, and I've never had a problem finding a space. They have convenient Monday thru Saturday hours. A benefit of the Redondo Beach library system is being able to reserve items online and have them available for pick up at the branch of your choice. It's easy to see due dates online and to renew items. It's also great to have the option of returning to either branch. The employees seem to alternate between branches, and for the most part, are courteous and efficient. There's not usually a long wait for checking out materials, and there's an option for self-check out too. The only downside is that this branch is dated and could use some refreshing.

She was eager to help provide pointers of other branches in the area (parking, staff, overall feeling of the branch). It was just a pleasant experience. The library itself is well stocked of a variety of books for all types of needs. And, because it's part of LAPL, if they don't have it, they can get it from another branch within a few days.
