The Smugglers Den Inn is a 16th century thatched inn with family, beer garden, childrens play area and ample parking. The beer garden is where we like to crash and relax. While the kids play on the apparatus we chill with a ool drink in the sun and order from the menu full of lovely food and they always have plenty of specials on the board all made using the freshest local ingredients. It is situated in a little village called Trebellan, near Cubert, less than than 15 minutes from Newquay. You approach down a steep, high sided road which is typically Cornish and the pub is right before you and very welcoming. They have regular live entertainment and also have an annual Real Ale and Pie Festival which is is it's 9th year. It's definitely worth pulling off the beaten track and seeking it out for a refreshing treat.

In awe we stood there when a local voice in a friendly manner told us that there was another bar at the rear, The smugglers Bar. The whole pub was so inviting and this didn't stop when I ordered our drinks. The Landlady and young lady behind the bar were so friendly and helpful. They are very child friendly and provide high chairs, and they are also very very friendly with smiley happy waiting staff who are even patient with my children who change their minds several times before they let them escape! There is also a large car park for ease of parking, small space out the front with chauirs for summer al fresco dining. And for kids they have a slide, monkey bars, zip wire and other bits and pieces of kids play equiptment. Although it's on a busy main road, the pub looks like something you'd find in a village: dating from the 17th Century (possibly earlier), and appropriately thatched, the interior is cosy with a tiny gar areas and two eating areas (again both pretty cosy). The decor is very traditional - copper topped tables and patterned carpets with photographs and maritime memorabilia. They serve a full range of alcoholic and soft drinks, with three ales in tap. There's a good menu - all good, unpretentious pub grub, freshly cooked to order and with (very) generous portions. We had ham, egg & chips, and a leek and potato cheesy bake with salad and garlic bread. That and a pint of Doom Bar came to under £24. We would love to have tried out the pudding menu but didn't have room, but saw some amazing ice cream sundaes being consumed at neighbouring tables.
