Thanksgiving at OCR is quickly becoming a tradition for our large family. Having the option to stay in a well appointed, large cabin for a reasonable price, without all the 'hub bub' and rat race going on around you is a treasure. Finding a place that can house a family of 7 and no one having to sleep on the floor is a real treat for us! We feel like we are at 'home', and can really relax! We enjoy all that nature provides via the property (plenty of places to explore!!) surrounding OCR, the State Parks, and the New River Gorge area. A quick trip into Fayetteville certainly does prove it is the "Coolest little town in America". Plenty of places to choose to eat at, should you decide not to cook your own dinner back at the cabin. We typically cook at the cabin, as it is cost efficient, and the kids can play until the last little bit of sun dips behind the mountains. One of our favorite things to do is to roast marshmallows over the fire pit, then jump in the hot tub to relax! Each time we have been there, even though there are others staying in the other cabins, it has been so very quiet and relaxing. It is a comfortable, safe place to allow our kids to roam and go 'adventuring' as they call it. Looking forward to many more visits to OCR, and many more memories to add to our existing ones!

Anna was very welcoming and even baked us cookies as a welcome present. The cabin was spacious enough for us two, and the hot tub was the main attraction. We loved the fireplace, especially in 20-30 degree weather, sitting by the fireplace reading was our nightly routine. There are a lot of hikes and attractions nearby to do during the day, so no worries about getting bored. The cabin had all the utilities we could need, plenty of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and everything you could possibly need in the fully working kitchen. Overall we spent a very relaxing week and can't wait to come back when it's warmer!

I was very impressed by Fayetteville, WV. I highly recommend this place. It was the perfect stay after a full day in New River Gorge National Park. It is very close to the Canyon Rim Visitor Center. No apologies...just said it didn't happen. Breakfast was mediocre at best. Check out took too long because we had to search for an employee. The front desk was left empty. Then, the next day we have a Christmas dinner (the weekend before Christmas usually, so everyone can avoid traffic and/or be with their immediate families for Christmas day). The cabins are in a great location on the New River Gorge, and they are very clean and beautiful inside with plenty of amenities. It's WAY better than a hotel. They just feel so homey. And there are heated bathroom floors, hot tubs on the screen-in porches and a fully functional kitchen in each. Even cable and wi-fi! The only real downside to these cabins are the parking is almost nonexistent for each cabin, and also that some of them have fireplaces and some don't -- and one year we had a gas leak when we did get one. Yikes! Overall, these cabins are a great setting with very relaxing furniture and atmosphere. You're close to the Gorge and downtown Fayetteville. A win-win!

While it isn't fully updated in decor, it is clean, and the beds are comfortable. My only issue is that upon arrival, we discovered that the table in our room was broken -- one of the legs was cracked and snapped, but you wouldn't notice it unless you tried to place something on it. We notified the staff, but I don't think they were able to do anything about it. Another problem: the faucet wasn't working properly. It only produced really hot water, no matter which direction it was turned, and it also leaked at the knob. I've see a lot of good reviews, so I'm sure this place has seen better maintenance in the past. I can't imagine the pandemic has been helpful for business. Bottom line: it's clean, you get what you pay for. I'm glad I stayed there, though.

What a great way to spend a summer day. This is a rafting review, we only came up for the day, but…read morewe are already talking about next year and doing a two day visit and double our rafting fun. We picked the Lower New River, a full day adventure. We kicked off a little bit before 9 and had a quick equipment assignment and then climbed aboard a well seasoned bus. Its a bus and it served its purpose. During the ride we got a basic but funny safety briefing. You can tell these guys love their job and enjoy making life fun. After about a 25 minute ride, we arrived at the departure spot and got assigned a raft. We are a family of 4 so they assigned two more people to our raft and our guide, Jackson was phenomenal! Seriously, Jackson is so chill and personable, we could have just hung out and listened to his adventures in life. He did a really great job making everyone feel welcomed, valued and appreciated. For me, I know I would have been barking rules at our novice tubers, but he just gave specific instructions on what to expect, what to do if the 'in case' happens, and provided assurance that he would protect everyone. He also provided fun little facts about the river and history of the Gorge. We saw class II to class IV rapids and there were some intense moments. It took me a couple rapids to figure out that Jackson would strategically place our boat in the best part of the rapids for maximum effect, which made this ride so memorable. Despite sometimes facing a wall of water, we always felt in control and hearing Jackson hooting and hollering like a kid gave the assurance and reminder that this is 100% fun adrenaline. The river water was cool and refreshing, not shockingly cold in July and the levels were high so we had a good time. We did stop half way down for a lunch which consisted of either meat/cheese sandwiches or PB sandwiches, potato salad, a pasta salad, watermelon, chips & salsa, and a desert. It was good and sustained everyone. The second half of the day the river was even better than the first half. At the end, we got picked up by the bus with an even shorter ride back to AOTG. They provided a couple coolers of ice cold water, soda, and gatorade for the ride back. Once back we showered, changed and checked out the photos of our trip. This was an 11 out of 10 experience for my family and like I said, we are already planning on coming back for a 2 day trip.

Partly because there were no four seasons in the area (mostly joking) but also because we were in WeSt vIrGiNiA and wanted to get in touch with NaTuRe we decided to go outside of our cocmfort zone and picked some closer to nature options. This was the second. We went with Kaymoor at Adventures on the Gorge. Thjey have the full scale between literal camping and hotel-like, I believe we chose the most hotel-like option. I wanted to do the glamping but there were none available about a month before our trip when I finally got my shit together to book shit. Check in was super easy. We were given a key and a treasure map of how to get to our "cabin" which was easy to drive to. It is a legit cabin in the woods but will all amenities one would expect staying in the a hotel. Great bathroom and shower with a ton of towels, bedroom and separate lounge room that included a mini fridge. TV, wifi, climate control. There was even a cute little porch with chairs in the literal woods. It is so cool. AC worked great. The shower was great. They provided more towels than I'm used to getting at hotels. The bed was SUPER COMFY. I literally don't have enough good things to say about this place. Such a good choice.

Dilya will make you whatever you like for breakfast; you name it: pancakes, crepes (plain or cream cheese stuffed), french toast, egg sandwich, or their fresh sausage patties (it seemed to be everyone's favorite). The Arnott House itself is located steps from downtown Spencer with the renowned Robey Theater and quaint little shopping area.
