This was a girl's weekend away and we wanted adventure, quiet and relaxation. That's exactly what we got. We stayed in a larger cabin, which was extremely clean and cozy. Lots of space (they sleep up to 8-10, I believe) and comfy beds. Functional kitchen with the basic cooking supplies, wraparound porch (upper level porch as well) and fire pit, bbq, etc. Gorgeous, peaceful grounds which Mark has worked hard to maintain, it definitely shows. For active folks, there are lots of places to hike, kayak, etc., within a 30-45 minute radius. There are some activity/tourist guides within the cabin as well. Fayetteville is nearby, which is an adorable little town with a few shops, movie theatre, coffee shop and brewery/pizza shop. I would love to visit in the fall as I can imagine the foliage is amazing. Highly recommend staying here and already looking forward to the next WV trip.

Then, the next day we have a Christmas dinner (the weekend before Christmas usually, so everyone can avoid traffic and/or be with their immediate families for Christmas day). The cabins are in a great location on the New River Gorge, and they are very clean and beautiful inside with plenty of amenities. It's WAY better than a hotel. They just feel so homey. And there are heated bathroom floors, hot tubs on the screen-in porches and a fully functional kitchen in each. Even cable and wi-fi! The only real downside to these cabins are the parking is almost nonexistent for each cabin, and also that some of them have fireplaces and some don't -- and one year we had a gas leak when we did get one. Yikes! Overall, these cabins are a great setting with very relaxing furniture and atmosphere. You're close to the Gorge and downtown Fayetteville. A win-win!

Our cabin was beautiful and perfect for two people. We spent a lot of our evenings at the little community hammock area, which is a touch I now believe all campsites should have. I loved the location because we were 10 minutes from the salmon run boat launch where you can kayak under a bridge and find a waterfall around the bend. We were about 20 minutes away from Fayetteville where you can find amazing food and activities. I highly recommend the Wood Iron Eatery for breakfast and the Long Point Grille for lunch.

From the outside, the lighthouse was lovely to look at but I was really really hoping to be able to climb to the top. We also weren't sure when we would be stopping, so we didn't have water with us for quite a while... we were definitely the last rafting company to stop for lunch, the moral was getting low. Even our guide mentioned something about not knowing when we would stop. Our guide seemed fairly new, but the river wasn't overly intense, and we never felt truly unsafe. There were a couple of moments that made us a little nervous, but overall the rafting itself was SO much fun. One thing that definitely affected the experience was some of the other guests. Unfortunately, you can't control people's manners, and there were a few who were pretty rude and inconsiderate, especially at lunch. It was supposed to be ladies first, but we watched people cut the line and take huge amounts of food for themselves and their husbands. It was honestly pretty frustrating to watch and took a little of the fun out of that part of the day. That said, we had a blast and would absolutely recommend giving it a try! The staff was kind, the organization was good, and being out on the river was an awesome experience. A few small improvements with communication around food, water, and lunch would make an already great day even better.

The small RV/pop-up sites are large,clean, and somewhat private. They have gravelEd areas to park, a picnic table, fire ring, and some have a wooden deck. I did not see any of the tent sites. The campground is large and clean. They provide a playground, dog park, and what looks to be a covered gathering area with picnic tables. The bathrooms have stalls and showers and are cleaned daily. The main office has some souvenirs , daily camp gear , ice and firewood for sale. The customer service is the best that I've ever experienced at a campground. All staff were very friendly. They help you back your camper into the spot and deliver and unload purchased firewood to your site. Be aware that you are camping in the mountains, so most sites and the overall area is on an incline. I would definitely stay here again!

If you have a family most of the the cabins has a queen bed and double bunk beds if traveling with friends. When we arrived, the lake did *not* disappoint -- calm water, gorgeous scenery, and just a relaxed, welcoming energy. We didn't even try to explore the whole place (it's huge). We stopped at the first dock we saw, hopped out with our gear, and got straight to fishing. Mealworms on the hook, lines in the water, and good vibes all around. We saw fish swimming past and had a few nibbles, but no actual catches this time. Still, the whole experience was a win. It wasn't crowded at all -- just a few groups scattered around, everyone spaced out enough that it still felt peaceful. No loud music, no chaos, just people enjoying nature. **Pro Tips:** * Bring your own bait, drinks, and plenty of snacks (trust me, you'll get hungry). * There's a port-o-potty nearby *or*, you know\... nature works in a pinch (ask the boys ). * Sunscreen is a must and a hat, perhaps.
