I placed an order for trousers that were advertised as in stock, along with a £25 shirt, and paid £5 for delivery. I then made a second order the following day for £185. Customer service later informed me that the trousers were not actually in stock. They offered a replacement of equal value, but nothing was available in my size. I requested a full refund of the order, as paying £5 delivery for a single £25 shirt (when competitors offer free delivery) makes no sense. Instead of giving me the chance to cancel, they dispatched the shirt after discovering they couldn't fulfil the main item. They then refused to refund the delivery charge. When I raised all of this with customer service, they completely ignored the issue and simply said the trousers had been refunded -- with no acknowledgement of the inconvenience, the mistake, or the unfair delivery charge. I'll now be returning the shirt and my entire second order out of principle, and I won't be shopping with Hawes & Curtis again. Reading other customer reviews, I'm also now concerned about product quality. It's disappointing that the company is happy to lose a customer and see over £200 in orders returned rather than refund a £5 delivery cost -- especially when the stock issue was entirely their fault. read more

I placed my first & last order with Hawes & Curtis. I live in the USA. I ordered a total of 4 shirts. Two for me & two for my sons. For me, I ordered two French cuff shirts. One I ordered with 37" sleeves & thought ...fine they'll be a little bit long as I wear a 34/35 sleeve. Well, lo & behold the 37" sleeve is perfect while the 34" sleeve is short. Hawes & Curtis does not allow exchanges. Nor do they offer easy returns as do other English shirt companies. One has to return the shirt with a $10 restocking fee AND pay the shipping - $10 via them or your own shipper of choice. So now I'm stuck with a shirt that doesn't fit because it will cost me half the cost of the shirt to return it to them in England! So while the shirt itself is very nice, I can't purchase from them anymore. They just lost a customer. Back to CT & Brook Traverner where they offer easy exchanges & returns. read more

Products are good, stores a delight, especially the flagship store in Jermyn Street. But online customer service is APPALLING. I placed a £300 online order, which included a dress shirt. The collar was too big, so I returned it for refund and ordered a smaller collar size. The returned shirt was sent back to me, marked 'refund rejected', crudely rolled up and stuffed into a plastic bag. So I wrote to ask why. The reply was that the shirt was marked and had been worn - both untrue - even including faint photographs showing shadows which were presumably their 'marks'. I was so incensed, I travelled up to town to find a Hawes & Curtis manager. I found a professional and principled one, who carefully read the correspondence and minutely examined the shirt, before declaring that he could find no marks and the shirt had clearly not been worn. He telephoned online customer services who reluctantly agreed to a refund. Unbelievable behaviour. Beware. read more

Very difficult company to deal with at the point of sale and with returns. Charged an exorbitant rate to ship and then ended up sending it priority mail flat rate - less than $10. Returns are not welcome. I was scared to return because I read in so many reviews that the returns were "lost". I now have 2 shirts that I hate and I am out over $100. Absolutely dreadful customer service. I purchased a pair of black brogues (at over £100) for my teenage son (for use at school) in July - he started wearing them on 4 September at the start of term and within three days one of the heels had come off. Both the Westfield store and their online customer services team have refused to help in any way whatsoever due to the fact that it is more than 28 days since purchase (although the shoes had only been worn for three days) and I no longer have the receipt (although the store have a record of my purchase and I have a credit card statement showing the purchase). Genuinely shocking treatment of customers - I would absolutely not purchase anything from this brand ever again. I would suggest going to somewhere like John Lewis where they actively try to sort issues and take pride in their customer service experience. read more

If you're going to buy some work clothes from Hawes & Curtis, then you may as well go to the Hawes & Curtis on Jermyn Street, where it all began. Because this place is big. If you want a specific shirt in a specific size in a specific print, you'd probably find it here. And there are plenty of dedicated changing rooms with tester shirts that you can try on for fit in the various cuts without feeling as if you're being a pain in the ass. Same good deals that you'll find at any other Hawes & Curtis shop, but more variety and a posher atmosphere. In my opinion, Hawes & Curtis blows TM Lewin out of the water in terms of women's shirts. I'm a particular fan of the Hipster cut. But also the semi-fitted cut. But, really, just all of the cuts. If you're too poor for Pink* and a bit bored and fed up with TM Lewin, this is the place for you. But, ultimately, it's just a Hawes & Curtis. All its shirts are imported, not handmade and cut to order like other fancy Jermyn Street shirtmakers. ______________________________________ *and if you're too poor for Pink, you're definitely too poor for anything from any of the other shops on Jermyn Street, so I'm not even going to mention them. read more

Avoid buying here. We purchased a suit for our wedding on 3 March and my husband didn't wear it till 27 April. In a matter of a day the suit was already pilling. Hawes & Curtis stands only on its longstanding name, not its quality. We politely reverted to the store, and they refused to either refund us or replace the suit pants. Our wedding was a 20 minute elopement, followed by a 4 hour photo shoot, my husband was hardly breaking it down on the dance floor. Suits are guaranteed up to 30 days, after that they will disintegrate. That alone is 0 star worthy, I won't go into the experience of buying his suit shirt (separate appointment) where the assistant wrongly sized him and we had to return to get shirts of the right length. She was clearly not educated in how to, that or she wrongly selected the shirt from the wall. Either way we had to go back. Waste of time. read more

Good variety at the same prices as the other stores. For less than 30 quid, you get a nice mens shirt (either dress or casual) and for 20 you get a womans shirt. these are mass produced, but at these prices, this is a fantastic deal. The workmanship is good and the style distinctly British. As per the other reviewer, this is no Pink shirt, but I find the quality pretty close. And in looking at the other shirts on Jermyn Street, most of them are about at the same quality but at higher prices. I am a fan. read more

There are plenty of appealing offers, in-store here, with improved value when you buy three items at a time. I especially liked the tall glass cabinet full of bejewelled and unusual cuff links, from £20 a pair. The sweet stainless steel and (glass) 'gem' dragonflies were particularly lovely and would make a welcome, unusual gift for ladies who regularly wear formal suits or shirts. One of the worst customer service experience ever! i had ordered a blazer and some shirts on the website. My order was later cancelled on the excuse that the listed price for the blazer was done in error and thus, i have to pay more if i wanted the blazer. I flat out rejected the offer and asked for a refund of my money. I thought the incident was an anomaly, but i was wrong. I had another incident with an order i made recently. I had ordered a couple of shirts last week. The said shirts were listed as available on their website when i ordered the shirts. I paid for the item and i was emailed an order number. 4 days later,they sent me an email saying the shirts were unavailable and i should buy an alternative at astronomical price. I refused and told the representative this is the second time i have encountered incidents like this. The agent wasn't interested and literally told me to kick rocks. I have decided never to purchase any item from them. I have had nothing but excellent experience with Duchamp London. They make better shirts/suits anyway. I intend to stick with Duchamp London and stay away from Hawes and Curtis!! read more

Ordered a dozen odd shirts from their online store. The experience has been pretty horrible. It's been two weeks since the order was made. My card was charged and everything went through just fine but I still don't have the shirts. Delivery was promised within 5 days. Their customer support is off on the weekends (Sat and Sun). Their online support is fairly poor (no email, no chat just a web form). They shared no tracking ID for my order so it's impossible to know whether it will come in a couple of days, or if it will take a few more weeks. I have now submitted an online form asking them regarding the status. I spent an hour scouting good shirts so it feels like a real time sink. I hope their online department can be replaced wholesale. read more

I reviewed the Kensington store elsewhere but this is a high street chain. I have been buying Hawes & Curtis shirts for the last 10 years. They are not great quality but the cut has always been very good for the high street. They are a cheaper way of getting a more expensive looking shirt, even if the fabric is thin and the shirt only lasts 10-20 washes. Recently though I have had terrible experiences and I bought more than 20 shirts which almost all became useless after the first wash and iron. The problem is that H&C put a little white plastic collar stay in each collar which has to be removed before ironing. On most of my recently bought shirts, that little plastic stay is not removable (sometimes each collar has one that is and one that isn't). If you iron over a stay - your shirt is ruined forever and has a massive white stain on each collar. So - I have perhaps 15-20 useless shirts now. What's worse is that the store did not automatically exchange these shirts when I took them in to complain. I guess you get what you pay for. The staff were not interested. It was Jermyn Street Packaging with Ryanair customer service and Primark quality control - in my case anyway. For £30 you are better off going to get a good discounted brand at TXMaxx or else wait for the sales. Otherwise stick to places that have a good refund/exchange policy and good customer service. Better still, spend £60 at Pink and get a good shirt with better manufacturing standards. What a pity! I spent £1000 + and have useless shirts from Hawes and Curtis, was told I was boring by the store manager and feel like an idiot for buying so many shirts from one place. read more

I bought two white shirts - New Silk touch in sale. My wife got three shirts paying full price. Pros: Good nice looking white and whatever other colour. Buy the shirt by trying out the different fits and you will get something that fits you fine. CONS: Crap shirts - nuisance to iron, I use steam generator iron to make my life easy but no use. I used the normal steam iron and without any steam iron but no use. You iron on one side then go to the other side, the side you completed gets crumpled. It takes 20 minutes or more to iron one shirt!!! Instruction to wash say wash at 30 degrees! I do that and wash only shirts and they come out as crumpled as if some kids have jumped on them. Whereas I have shirts from other companies purchases at the same price range and they are easy to iron and wash. Complete waste of time and non nonsensical. Overall crap shirts , ZERO value for money - infact waste of money. read more

Bought some shirts for our son, but they didn't fit. Their cut is extremely wide and oddly long, so definitely not the right brand for him. We sent him into the store with his own credit card to return the shirts and the store manager claimed she needed the card holder with his card to make the return. I have never heard of such a thing. She wouldn't even accept the card holder to communicate whatever information might be needed over the telephone. Don't get tricked into thinking they run a professional operation just because they're on Jermyn Street. read more

I like their product but when did their online service start to stink so badly? Three times in the past week I have attempted to order online, and I've spent a lot of money on there over the years. The site refuses all payment forms, including the cards and PayPal account I previously used. When I contacted them I got the thumbs up all ok now. It's not. Multiple page and site crashe, losing the inventory I had added to the cart. I'm going to Brooks Brothers. Not worth the frustration with H&C. read more

34 Jermyn Street - Hawes & Curtis - Appaling service by Aisha I - 133854 on Saturday 6th July. I went into the store around 5:15pm to see the shirts that I wanted to buy online but was so excited that I didn't want to wait till it got delivered during the week. Please bare in mind that I always buy all my work clothes from Hawes & Curtis as I love their quality. With Hawes & Curtis when I see the clothing I like, I get it straight away. No questions asked. Now I saw a Lady called Aisha (Black Lady) who was the only one free at the time and I asked her to guide me to the shirts I was after and showed her the pictures that I took a screenshot of on my iPhone. Immediately Aisha looked me up and down and said the shirts were not in the store. Although they were right in front of us were we were both standing. I then asked her about another two shirts in extra slim fit and she said it was best I buy them online as they don't have it here. Then she gave me excuses about they don't have the right colours I was after. Again. The shirts were right in front of us. I felt like I basically had to force Aisha to help me look for the shirts although I was told this is one of the biggest outlets in London. Even after Aisha had found the shirts for me, she asked me whether I was going to buy them looking me up and down again as if I was trash or I wasn't going to pay. I literally felt so miserable and uncomfortable that I felt perhaps I needed to have come in a 3 piece suit just to get a proper service. I literally wanted to leave the store or ask for somebody else to serve me because Aisha's behaviour was quite irksome. (Perhaps it was because I was a black guy sporting a full beard and wearing a full Adidas tracksuit and trainers which were very comfy and carrying a backpack. Who knows ‍) If I was a mystery shopper Aisha would have definitely scored a dismal 0 or a lower score if it was possible, purely because of her appalling attitude and the energy she was putting out towards me. I really felt uncomfortable shopping here and this was my first time at this particular outlet. It's a shame but please Aisha for future reference don't judge a book by its cover. Whilst this shop is not so great for city boys who need to wear a slightly higher quality it is brilliant for girls. You may need to buy a size up as they can be a little tight particularly their city cut but very good value for money. I probably wouldnt buy a suit from them but their cufflinks are also good value.
