Communication with your primary care physician (PCP) is key. They look after your health and…read morewell-being. I was sad when my long time PCP Dr. Christopher Marsh retired and I then bonded well with Dr. Helen Kim who took over Dr. Marsh's practice. Then, Dr. Kim left the islands as her husband's job uprooted them to the continental US and prior to her departure she recommended Dr. Sarah Sanders. Prior to seeing Dr. Sanders, I received a letter from Queen's advising Dr. Henry Cacanindin (Dr. C) would be taking over Dr. Helen Kim's practice. So I called the office, where both Dr. Sanders and Dr. C are located but the receptionist advised I was assigned to Dr. Sanders. However, after subpar interactions with Dr. Sanders, I requested a change. I was advised it's non-conventional to switch PCPs but after I explained my situation, I was assigned to Dr. C. I felt at ease when I first met Dr. C as he spoke to me as a professional in a pleasant manner. I was treated with respect and not lectured like I was with Dr. Sanders. There is a way to communicate with patients and sure don't appreciate being berated or belittled for not being able to know all the names and dosage of my current medications. Usually people don't like to see their doctors or dentists but with the professionals who I am currently working with, I look forward to seeing them, and this includes Dr. C. As I get older my body doesn't rebound as quickly compared to my younger days. Also with aging, your body changes and I'm glad I see Dr. C. regularly where my bloodwork is monitored and have taken action to combat abnormal numbers. Dr. C.'s office still employs Joanne, who I've known since Dr. Marsh days. I still reach out to her via My Chart, where she replies back to me on a timely basis and addresses my concerns, such as scheduling appointments and assisting me with prescription refills. Change can be scary but I'm a true believer that things happen for a reason. When a door closes, another door opens. I'm fortunate to have been paired with Dr. C. and very pleased he's my PCP.

NEED CPR CERTIFICATION? Here is a quick way to get your Heartsaver or BLS card renewed…read more www.fastCPRcard.com (which is run out of Tao, Inc.) is the site to check out the details. I walked out with my AHA CPR card in hand at the end of the 90 minute class. For me, this was totally worth it, and I'll be back in 729 days. COST: $65 cash or Visa/Master accepted WHEN: DAILY classes Mon-Friday at 2pm (Heartsaver) and 3:30pm (BLS). Call to make reservations. (No ACLS classes) WHERE: Century Square, 1188 Bishop St. Suite 2409 PARKING: Fully validated (yes, its FREE) parking in the Century Square garage (a $12 value!) Every 2 years for the past 20 years (I started when I was 5, haha) I've had to go through the same boring routine of renewing my CPR certification. It's something that I always put off until the day after my old card expires. I've been through 8 hour long CPR trainings, CPR "house parties", BLS certifications in the hospital, half day CPR classes at the gym, and they all are pretty much the same. Many things have changed over the years. During my most recent (2012) AHA Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Certification I learned quite a bit actually, because they keep changing the AHA guidelines every 5 years. 1. When I first started taking CPR classes (1993), we practiced on "Resusci-Annie". Now they are just called dummies. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/WP-V9TyjILA-fAXlt6-MBQ?select=yegqU-X4-xc9K7cERBvCXQ#zKsCq-4uTIzhugMEHAqFew 2. Back then it was ABC. Now it's CAB. (compressions first!) 3. The number of recommended compressions keeps increasing, and now they recommend 30 compressions for everyone, to 2 breaths. 4. AED training. This is pretty self explanatory, but good to know what it is, what it's used for and the proper use. The instructor (Oguz) was efficient, effective, and made sure we knew all the current recommendations for First Aid, CPR, and AED use. He was lively and kept the class flowing. I was in and out of there in the promised 90 minute time and this was pretty painless as far as CPR classes go. Are there cheaper classes out there? Yes. But this one is offered 5x/week every week, in air-conditioning, they are punctual and give you your card right away, and they don't waste my time. Time is money. Unless this is your first time getting your CPR card and you really want to do those 8 hour long classes, I recommend you give these guys a call. (And like the other reviewer stated, I have no idea about the "religious" aspect of this business. They don't even mention it or try to push their beliefs on you, it's strictly a CPR certification class.)

I took my first BLS class and got the BLS card in 1.75 hours. The class was composed of a 10 minute…read morevideo on the 2010 changes to BLS certification (It only changes every 5 years) and the rest was hands-on training. The video seemed like a lot of info and rocket-scientish, but he broke it down into plain and simple laymen's terms kinda like this...."All that sounds like rocket-science but what they really mean is 1) check the patient to see it they are conscious 2) if not call for help 3) quickly feel for a pulse & 4) start giving CPR." Sounds easy, yeah? Well that's not what the video said! Orguz (the instructor) has been teaching this for 18 years in the same building. He's very polite, has a sense of humor to make the class enjoyable, and well-organized when presenting. He even asks you if you have any questions after each bout of lessons. You might not remember all the info as soon as you get out of the class but taking a 3-8 hour class (like other places are teaching) will not guarantee retention either. In fact 3-8 hrs is 3-8 hrs too much! I was skeptical at first, and even tempted to take one of those looonnnggg classes because I thought I would be missing something, but when it comes down to it, you're not going to need all that background info when giving CPR. (Check the 4-item breakdown above!) I got my BLS card, didn't I?? There were only 3 of us in the office/class. One was just getting re-certified so this class was especially easy for him. The other person and I were newbies. We were all given the test questions at the beginning, before class even started so you could answer the questions if you wanted to. There was an AHA BLS booklet you could look through to help you with the questions, but most questions, if not all, were covered in the class. (I had to look in the booklet a few times to make sure my recollection of the information was correct and because I spaced out a few times...hey the video came across as rocket science so I freaked out!) Also a visual aid/cheatsheet is given to help you. I wasn't sure how I was gonna do on the test and when even the other newbie left before me I got a little more anxious than I already was. (I have test-taking anxiety!) But all that anxiety was laid to rest when Orguz graded the test on the spot and said I got a 100% (I didn't hear him tell the other two that:D:D) I recommend this class if you need it right away. I signed up on the phone 40 minutes before the class started. It was a little over an hour plus test-taking time. How's that for quick service! I'm not sure how other places are, but I chose this place because they had lots of times scheduled for BLS. Daily, the BLS classes are 12:30 and 3:30 M-F. You can pay the $65 in person via cash or credit card, or online via credit card. And yeah, the Tao Inc. thing is kinda confusing at first, especially when the website is called FastCPRcard.com. but don't worry, no Tao proselytizing occurs; just some cool artwork and antique stuff in there like a half suit of armor! So sign up and go see Orguz!!
