This group, Hawaii Lion Dance Association (not Hawaiian) is really good and friendly. When we called for a lion dance for my grandparents, the people were pleasant. In fact, whatever questions we asked, they answered. They like to respond via email or afterhours, since they have real jobs during the day. Mr. Chang responded to our questions and even helped or provided insight about various Chinese customs or traditions, based upon different areas of China. He answered our questions, and my uncles and aunts ones...and trust me, my relatives are not easy to please.
This group had beautiful, matching adult and cubby lions. They were gold-threaded embroidered, red color tails and we have not seen any group with similar type of designs on their tails.
Since then, we and our friends have called them for several weddings, birthday parties and a grand opening of their restaurant. Got to like how they take pictures with the honoree and made our little ones that normally are scared of the lions, wanting to feed them. They use the traditional Southern Cantonese lions which our family and friends liked, because these were the lions that we and our relatives grew up watching and performing in the 60's, 70's and 80's for their energetic action.
We first saw this group on the Ala Moana stage at their Meet and Greet program several years ago and 3 of my cousins saw them at their children's preschools, Meet and Greet, Chinese New Year program, dating back several plus years. What was amazing in that we were all talking about this same group, since we all saw them at different schools. They do not advertise heavily, but they are worth the donation given to them. They are a 501(c)3, non-profit, so all of the donations received by them are tax-deductible. Most of their performances are done by referrals. We really liked them and our parents gave their approval when we were planning our grandparents party after they spoke to Mr. Chang.
They are not flashy, but they are professional! read more
