I went into Cirque du Soleil 'Auana in Waikiki expecting incredible performances, but what really impressed me was how thoughtfully Hawaiian culture and storytelling were woven into the production. The artists were unbelievably talented, and the show balanced acrobatics, music, and emotion in a way that felt unique compared to other Cirque productions I've seen. The theater itself is relatively small, which actually works in its favor because there really does not seem to be a bad seat in the house. It also could not be easier to access if you're staying in Waikiki, making it a very convenient night out. I left genuinely impressed and hopeful that this production sticks around for a long time because it feels like such a great fit for Hawaii and for visitors wanting something memorable beyond the beach.

This show was spectacular! I had a marvelous time! All of the performers are amazing and they keep you entertained the whole entire time! We got seats in the back and it wasn't terrible so I would say every seat gets a good view!

I was pleasantly surprised to find out that this company has a show in Oahu. I've seen a handful of the ones in Vegas, as well as one in my hometown Sacramento, and am always satisfied with the quality of entertainment they provide, so naturally I got tickets to this one for the last night of my Hawaii trip this year. The ticket I purchased was $86, and I was more in the middle rows off to the left facing the stage. I was told beforehand that the theater wasn't huge so really any seat is a decent seat, and after seeing the show from where I was at, I would agree. While there are parts where I can see the appeal of being aligned to the center, as well as being in the rows closer to the stage (splash zone, performer interaction, etc.), if you're really just there to watch you shouldn't worry about putting up a couple hundred more in ticket costs. Without giving out too many details of the show, I really enjoyed the visuals and the theme that revolved around Hawaiian culture. Costumes, color choice, and all the other artistic decisions really helped make the experience feel intimate and immersive. Like the other Cirque du Soleil shows, they didn't shy away from having the performers walk/run through the aisles and interact with the audience. While the show was 80 minutes long, it did seem like there were slightly less main stunts that were performed, but that wasn't surprising since this show seems more affordable than Vegas offerings. Most of them were impressive, but a couple did seem to have a lot of filler activity. I understand buildup is necessary, and that the performers need room to breathe, but I've developed slightly higher expectations for this brand of shows in particular. Regardless, there were some funny moments that involved bringing who I'm assuming were random guests onstage. If they weren't random, then they did a great job of faking it. This sprinkled between mostly strong acts and with a stunning Hawaiian backdrop really brought forth a strong show for the price. I'd definitely recommend checking this out, especially if you enjoy these shows to begin with. I had a couple of people with me who had never seen a show by Cirque de Soleil and they said they enjoyed it as well.

Five stars!

Cirque du Soleil (Circus of the Sun) is a well-known name for entertainment. This Canadian company has various shows in Las Vegas, and all over the world, with different themes such as: Mystère, Kà, Michael Jackson: One, O, Viva Elvis, and The Beatles Love. Recently, Honolulu has been blessed to have its own show with a Hawaiian theme in 'Auana In Hawaiian language, 'auana is to roam or wander and - maybe even to explore. All of the dancers, singers, actors, musicians, acrobats, artists, and staff unite to guide the audience through about eight unique sets with colorful backdrops, costumes, and props. There was a comedic break with audience participation and a modern, familiar song! It was a good investment into local talent. I had heard of this production from my friend who wanted me to join her and her children, but I wasn't able to go at the time. This time, my dentist organized a group from our church. She got us a Kama'aina discount for tickets and insisted that we park at the Royal Hawaiian Center where validated parking was $3 per hour. We ended up dining at Royal Hawaiian Center after the show, too! It was nice to see such a professionally run attraction! We had seats in the middle of the relatively small theater where every seat has a great view! My seat was: section 102, row G, seat 10. There were two bars where some of us got bottled water... and a container of flavored popcorn ($10). The restroom was clearly marked. Exiting was streamlined through downstairs restaurants and back hallways. LOL! Overall... a great experience!

We are big fans of Cirque Du Soleil and when this appeared in Oahu, it was a must see. It took us over a year to finally get a chance to buy tickets because we only visit the island annually. My kids were so thrilled to see the show. It's one of our favorites as this Cirque du Soleil is quite different compared to the others we have seen. The acrobats, dancers, and stunts collaborated into the ancient history of Hawaiian culture which tells such a beautiful story. The dancers danced with elegance as they transitioned to different acts. Our eyes widened and jaws dropped as each performer wow us with their talents. I kind of prefer this over a luau to be honest just because it was so enticing to watch and unique activity to do. There are drinks, refreshments, and food you can purchase before the show to enjoy. I ordered some cheese garlic popcorn for the kids. It was so yummy with good flavor. Really good options on the menu especially for the adult drinks. If you are in Hawai'i purchase some tickets for this great show. You won't be disappointed. Worth every penny!

My fav duo.

Amazing! There was always going on and I loved it! It was nice to see the acrobats in action throughout the show and their unique talents. My fav was the two guys from Africa who defied gravity with all the flips! I also liked watching the couple (man and woman I think from Russia) and all the twirls they did. I also really liked the guy who did a whole balancing act on several cylinders. Truly, I can go on and on! It was a great show!

We drove to Honolulu on Christmas day for the Cirque du Soleil, "Auana". The Outrigger Waikiki Beachcomber is the host site. A celebration of the beauty of Hawaii. The stories of the islands combined with the artistry of the performers and music were captivating. Highly recommended. 26

Cirque du Soleil 'Auana was such a great experience. The concierge at our hotel had offered us tickets to this event at our check in, and I am so glad we were able to see the show. I had been to other Cirque du Soleil show in Vegas, but the 'Auana show was so beautiful and represented the Polynesian culture and Hawaiian values. The show had us captivated and in awe more often than not. I caught myself saying "WOW that was soo cool" more than I expected to. In comparison to the previous Cirque show I saw, this one was so much more captivating. The show was hosted at the Outrigger Beachcomber Waikiki, the staff was great with queuing the crowd. "Auana had a photo booth upon entry where a photographer would take your photo and they would print and offer you digital copies immediately after taking your photos. They are a little pricey but they are excellent quality photos. Once you get through the ticketing que, you are sent upstairs where they queued us until they were ready to open door for seating. There are 2 bars you can order snacks/drinks from during this time. We ordered some Mahi Thai's and proceeded into the theater to find our seats. We were sat in 203 GG which was the last row in the theater but was still amazing view of the show. I honestly enjoyed being closer to the back of the theater because you can see the stage & the performers that are in the aisles or on trapeze type apparatuses in the audience. During one portion of the show, dancers with suitcases were out in the audience, and I was lei'd with the flower lei from the show. Being involved made this show pop to me, I loved that aspect of multiple dancers in the audience providing leis to a handful of guests. I really enjoyed this show, and I am so thankful we were able to go and see this performance. If you are thinking about going to see it, just do it. It is well worth it.

My cousin surprised us with tickets to ʻAuana by Cirque du Soleil at the Waikīkī Beachcomber, and let's just say... the Queen was impressed. Living with diabetes means I'm always mindful of what I eat and drink, especially at shows like this. The open bar was pretty expensive, the popcorn tasted a little stale, and they mainly offered organic sodas--which may be great for some, but didn't feel very exciting. I will say though, the frozen POG slushie was actually really good and refreshing, and worth trying. Now the show itself? Absolutely worth it. I went in not knowing what to expect, but from the moment the show started, I was completely locked in. The production, the talent, and the storytelling. What I loved most was how they honored Hawaiʻi so beautifully. It wasn't just a show, it was a celebration of our culture, our energy, and our home on stage. If you're a local or visiting, this is absolutely worth experiencing. Hawaiʻi deserves to be seen like this. #queenenergy #auana #cirquedusoleil #waikiki #hawaiistagram

I WOULD GIVE INFINITY STARS TO THIS EPICALLY THRILLING. ENTERTAINING, FUNNY AND POWERFULLY TOUCHING PRODUCTION. I have been lucky to see many Cirque productions but wow. Wow WOW. 'Auana serves as an incredible blend of both honoring the Hawaiian tradition but also combining the physical feats of acrobatic wonder thad Cirque has been known for. I happened to be in Oahu for a weekend and grabbed a last minute ticket (which tip, could have last minute discounts on tickets available, I was able to score 30% off my ticket). The Outrigger Beachcomber hotel transformed its second floor to accommodate this theater (less than 800 seats, generally everywhere is a good view but sitting further back you can see everything as cast members get spread throughout). It was captivating and magical. You get taken on a journey and they masterfully weave in traditional Hawaiian dance, song and music to heart-stopping and well-timed performances. Not knowing what to expect I found myself getting emotional quite early on as I love the Hawaiian culture and tradition, I appreciated how they honored this with the right amount of spectacle that you can expect from cirque. I don't want to give too much away but you will find yourself in absolute wonder feeling like a kid again but also on the edge of your seat as the performers are incredibly skilled making you gasp at their feats of adventure and skill. The person next to me said (and I agree) I can't wait to see it again. This will easily become something I can go see every time I visit Oahu. I sat in section 201 Row D seat 3 for reference.

INCREDIBLE experience!!! My husband and I absolutely loved this show!! We have seen so many Cirque shows and this one has a spot on the top for favorites for both of us! We had relatively low expectations because we are spoiled in Las Vegas with a ton of shows, and with the small stage here, we expected this show to be entertaining, but not out of this world. We were definitely in awe the entire show! The show was immersive and absolutely amazing. If you're in Waikīkī, this is a must-see experience. The show is intimate, funny, and inspiring thoroughly showcasing the beauty of the culture of Hawaii. We sat in the golden circle and had a stellar view of the entire stage and surroundings because we were in the middle of the action. I don't think there are really any bad seats because the theater venue is quaint, but that's where we sat! Amazing 10/10 experience with incredible performers!

Katherine A.

More than 5 stars! The show is beyond fabulous with a beautiful Hawaiian theme. The show brings together Cirque du Soleil's acrobatics, Hawaiian dancing and song, humor with fantastic engagement of the audience. The special effects are fun! My 3-year old granddaughter and I were on the edge of our seats the entire show. The theater is small with only 700 seats and there is not a bad seat in the house. The cast uses the entire space. The staff at the Outrigger venue is friendly and efficient. Beverages and popcorn are available for purchase to bring into the theater. My only complaint was that restroom facilities are inadequate (there was a long line to use the women's restroom). We ordered tickets a couple days in advance for Saturday night. But I think you can buy same day tickets. They offer 5:30 and 8:00 pm performances Wed-Sun. We found parking in a nearby garage. The show should be on any top ten things to do in Wakkiki.

Kathy N.

One of the best Cirque shows along with O in Vegas. I wasn't sure what to expect since the stage and venue was much smaller than the shows in Vegas. However, I was pleasantly surprised at the acts and they delivered jaw-dropping performances. I highly recommend Auana if you're in Waikiki. My 2.5 year old son is still talking about this show 2 weeks after we've seen it.

Preamble to the amazing show!

I haven't resided in the islands since the mid-90s. With that said, I have been here for several shows and I purposely flown in for some and other were just the lowest of consolation prizes for having to fly away from loved ones due to my job taking me to another "twist my arm" experience = Stay on Oahu. I joke of course, but in earnest, growing up with the lights of Broadway and hundreds of concert venues nearby, I take my theater experiences very seriously and the Hawaii Theater meets any and every want/need one could dream of. For me it exceeds most. Please allow me to define... MY EXPERIENCES: I have been to a Christmas show, on my birthday, featuring Amy Hanaiali'i and, the much beloved and missed, Willie K (R.I.P.), which included a wonderful meet and greet. On another visit to HNL I just happened to be around for a Beach Boys show and was fortunate enough to get a ticket for it. And most recently, I flew in for a showing of The Princess Bride which featured a meet and greet of Cary Elwes. AT THE TOP: The President of the Hawaii Theater, Gregory Dunn is super humble, very polite and amazingly professional in every aspect. Best of all, he gets involved in the pre-show activities be it guiding folks to where they need to be or ensuring we understand the process of a meet and greet. Ya gotta love when there is no job below those in charge. He sets an example that many could benefit from if their eyes are truly open. SECURITY: If you have been to downtown Honolulu, you know it hasn't been a place that gets touted around the globe for it's cleanliness or safety. HPD has had their hands full over the years. Stores may have closed and some issues still exist, but overall I feel that the area has been improving greatly and adding to the return of a safer feeling neighborhood is the Hawaii Theater's security team. Yes, they are the most amazing group of people that one could want to see at an event. These guys are the, literally, the muscle that keeps things in order and flowing, from bag checks to ensuring reentry folks have wristbands. They operate like a finely tuned engine. As a concert goer that has been to well over 500 shows globally, I recognize these folks as the best. I will even go as far as to say that actually recognize some of them since my last visit a couole years back, which means that the team is sticking together. With that stated, not once have I had any safety concerns with these guys on duty... and still downtown can be questionable at times. STAFF OF THE THEATER: From the box office staff to those assigned to scan your tickets and give out VIP wristbands, these folks know how to keep the lines moving. Once inside there are strategically placed individuals, as one would expect. Folks there to give you direction to restrooms or concessions and then you have the ushers, those folks who are much more than a uniformed someone with a flashlight who is unfamiliar with the venue layout. These folks are amazing, they will get you to your seat in a timely, professional manner. Last but not least, are the bartenders... the fashionable, handlebar mustachioed bartender I met a few shows back was here again... and I always find him to be a terrific conversationalist (when time allots), incredibly professional and truly represents the venue as best as any one could. Put all these compliments together under one roof and you get one of the best theater experiences you could hope to ever find. You should come to downtown and find out for yourself... and you'll be a repeat offender, like me, (END NOTE: I fly in from the mainland for touring shows I could easily opt to catch on the mainland, and for a cheaper overall hit to the wallet. The Hawaii Theater, as defined above, is truly the deciding factor).

Walking into the Hawai'i Theatre, you're instantly transported into another era. An era of soft…read moreelegance and timeless artistry. From the moment you pass through the doors, you're surrounded by a blend of old-world elegance and Hawaiian warmth. Built in 1922, the theatre has hosted everything from silent films and Broadway plays to concerts and Hula performances. Today it seats about 1,400 guests, offering an intimate experience where every seat feels close to the stage. The acoustics are excellent, the seats are comfortable, and the staff and volunteers are friendly, welcoming, and genuinely helpful. There's also a small bar and lounge with high-tops, perfect for enjoying a drink and conversation before the show. Inside the theater, you see tall, fluted Corinthian-style columns that are richly detailed. The curved arch overhead is decorated with mosaic-style tiles in warm tones, and I absolutely LOVE the lush deep red velvet curtains that frame the stage. They add so much warmth and elegance. Having attended many shows throughout the years, I've always been mesmerized by the mural above the stage and decided to do some Googling while waiting for the show to begin. I learned it's Lionel Walden's Glorification of the Drama. The painting depicts a grand procession of mythic figures -- a golden-robed muse in her chariot, attendants, musicians, a lion handler -- all celebrating the power of theater. The central figure, often interpreted as the Personification of Drama, leads the way. Knowing that part of the mural was once lost to water damage and later painstakingly restored makes it even more meaningful. Parking is easy at the municipal garage on Bethel Street, just a block away. The short walk is now well-lit, a welcome improvement from years past when it was dark and sketchy. Entertaining audiences for over 100 years, the Hawaii Theater is a recognized as a National Historic Landmark. Attending a show here, you're not just watching a performance, you're also living and breathing a beautiful piece of Hawaii's historic culture.

It was warm and it was nice to be dining al fresco. They had live music and we were called up to the buffet table-by-table. The food was so-so but we found things to eat. The talented performers put on a great show and even my dad got in on the fun. What a let down, you guys. First of all, expensive for what it really was. Location wasn't all that. We didn't get the traditional pig roasting experience either. When we got there it was disorganized. We noticed there was a very long line and then a shorter one which we soon found out was for the ones who paid even more! As we entered the venue it just looked cheap - the way the tables were set up, the stage - I don't know, I guess I was expecting something more. Moving on to the food now; It was also not the best. Buffet style with flys flying around landing on it. It just didn't look appetizing. And like others have said on here, it was cold and mushy/soggy. The performances later were fine but I sadly agree with a yelper who had said it felt like a cheesy "high school play." The sound would go in and out too at times, whenever they'd start talking to the audience. We did get photos taken but damn, even that they charged us as well. Like we already spent a lot on tickets alone just to attend... Overall, this was definitely NOT the highlight of our Hawaiian trip, but it's okay because everything else we did was amazing.

Thank you to Terry K for taking me on this journey to something that I've never tried personally is to see a play and Manoa Valley Theatre offers us some amazing performances that I've been lucky to see a play though it's never been at Manoa Valley venue itself and what a difference it is. The vibe here is full of energy as many start arriving and you need to check in and verify your seating which the staff does and also informed us that the air conditioning wasn't fully operational and provided us with a bottle water is a nice gesture though was slightly warm the cool Manoa air kept us decently cool. As we get to chill prior by getting a drink and/or snack is nice and there are great options available including some alcohol. Kim's Convenience is the play and from what we were told is once a series on Netflix which I don't have but I like that I have no idea as I can enjoy the play just as they visualize which was great and fun since it was a comedy, if anything the seating leaves no room for anyone to pass in front of you so I had leave the row and wait in the aisle for others to take their seat but in all comfortable and easy to view the play without being blocked from the previous row. Bravo to this creative and wonderful evening with a great friend as doing something unique like this was so much fun and a memorable experience. Thank you!

I enjoyed my one time I went there to see Johnny Valentine and am sad to hear they closed the venue…read morepart. I loved arriving at this shopping center and going through the music classrooms, almost like a speakeasy. Cute older couple that runs the place. Very...Italian decor? Moody, night club vibe on the upper level, older crowd mainly. The food and drink were not too bad. Would I go just for the food? No. But the ambiance was really cool to experience, I'll miss it!

Medici's is a special little gem in Mānoa transporting you to a magical space filled with music,…read morefood, and happiness. The club opened in April of 2014 and features jazz, blues, classical musicians in Hawaii. This was our second time here and loved it. Tim and Carolyn (owners) are very welcoming couple who work in tandem to operate this place. Tim is the chef, artist, and manages the music events upstairs. Carolyn is the musical director for the school downstairs. All proceeds from dinner/shows help support the Manoa School of Music and the Arts downstairs. The ambiance is beautiful and well-decorated with plants, art, paintings. Tim is an artist, so you will find his paintings for sale too. We took one home during the NYE event and admire it everyday. Your ticket includes live music and a tasty 4 course gourmet meal who is cooked by Chef Tim. Just a word of warning is that the meal is on the smaller side. The dishes are served on mostly paper plates but I assume that's how they also keep the costs lower. Most of the attendees seem to be 50+ so the food might be catering to those who are older and don't eat as much. Although we ended up being content by the end with drinks. You will likely end up sitting with strangers since the tables are large, circular, and can seat up to 6-8 people. This can be a good way to socialize and make some new friends. They also have a bar that has very reasonable prices. $25 wine bottles and only $7.50 for beer/wine glasses. Cocktails available too. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for a special place to enjoy the beautiful tunes of jazz. Hard to find places like this anymore!

Lux At the Trump Here is a place that I wouldn't have…read morestarted to attend unless Yelp introduced me to the Lux At the Trump first. It's not in my normal area of hang-outs, it is in Waikiki which some of us dread going into unless we have to and it sounds less than inviting at first blush. We won tickets through Yelp for an event like a Halloween pre-party that sounded interesting. And now I am on a listserver that sends me info emails randomly and sometimes I really am interested in the events and would not have heard about them on my own without being on their email list. Yelp really did a great job of linking IRL music lovers with this venue...... Like with many other places compared to a NY / LA / Chicago club scene- this venue LUX is just way smaller compared to what would be a headliner in other major cities with Lux having hundreds maybe instead of more than thousands at other larger venues. Point being HI is small which can be good or bad. Lux At the Trump is one of the most gorgeous clubs I have ever seen- the pool open in the front is just breathtaking between light shows from the DJ area if just timed right. --- People do have to be careful not to take an unintended dip into cold water when they meant to find the bathroom though. I think I have gone to at least 3 now dance type of nights at Lux At the Trump- all thanks to the emails that I keep getting which I really do like. The music and events are pretty good. It is not a 21 only type of crowd. I don't want to say I was accosted by what appeared to be 2 over 70 year old drunk Japanese tourists that spoke little English or pretended not to speak any but don't be surprised at how varied that age range is compared to an upscale club. Music -wise some of the nights seemed to be better than others. I know it is the DJs job to keep the party going- and if you listen to enough of Jon Taffer you'll hear that great DJs can make songs play that makes everyone want to Dance and enjoy themselves and mix into a song that makes the majority of people subconsciously want to go to the bar for a drink. These djs seemed to be trying to fill the bar way to often by sometimes playing music that some people just hate on what seems to be on purpose. So some can be hit or miss on djs. Overall- in general it tries to cater to tourists but as a side note tourists usually aren't the ones that keep a club in business. So except for big events- IMHO normal locals don't just decide to hang out at Lux At the Trump. So going to events does make it special and why I would go there- not as a normal music/ dance venue. The food there is different- more like a pop up chef venue with really different things instead of a reg burger and fries. But it is without the chef there to explain any 'story' behind the food of a why or make sense of it. So you may get pumpkin sushi in October or whatnot but at least they have a good description of the food before you order - just be ready for bites instead of meals.

He told me I wasn't on the special "guest list" and I would have to park somewhere else. I told him I'm not parking my Z elsewhere and does money talk? He asked what I was talking about and I gave him $20. He was pretty happy with that. So let's rate the place. It's not so upsetting to be 1 star but I definitely won't come back so it's a 2. 1 My home system cranks louder with 18" and 12"'subs, lasers, leds, strobes and smoke machines. 2 It's outdoor so the environment was pretty hot. 3 It's tying hard to be high end. There were not much seating and I heard some of the tables were $800. There was a lot of nice skin showing. 4 I love to dance and can do so to practically any music. The DJ was so so. But it was early so we'll see. I don't think I'll ever come again even if Paul sends me free tickets or whatever. It was just not my thing. I had fun dancing though. I enjoyed getting in Beach Bum videos and Honolulu Magazine photos.
