Due to unforeseen circumstances, my original emcee had to cancel a few days prior to the event. I contacted David to ask about hiring an emcee and he offered to provide the emcee services at NO ADDITIONAL cost (Awesome)! On the day of the event, David arrived early with ample time to set up. David is an incredible performer full of Aloha. He was easy to work with from our very first call. He took the time to give me all the information I needed, and offered a competitive price for his services. We hired David for live music at both our ceremony and cocktail hour, and as a DJ for our reception. His voice is so beautiful and incredible! Our guests told us how they loved hearing him perform live. I'll never forget walking down the aisle to White Sandy Beach or departing as Mr. & Mrs. to Over the Rainbow. He also continued to play music during some of our photos and marriage license signing- hearing him perform was a dream! I basically told him we wanted Jack Johnson, Beach Boys & local Hawaiian music for cocktail hour, and he nailed it. My only regret is that we couldn't enjoy his live music for more of our cocktail hour (since we were doing photos). Given the timing of our wedding, and that we were traveling from the east coast, we had a lot of last minute cancellations in our guest list and wedding party, and thus, changes to our intro to reception songs. I was worried about this, but David executed all of the last minute changes well! He kept our guests dancing all night, and he was open to any song requests we thought of through the evening. We had our wedding in Waikiki last month and hired David Asing. He was fantastic on the day of, playing and singing beautifully for our ceremony, cocktail hour, and dinner, and he was also an awesome DJ. Our guests really enjoyed having him there, and his prices are very reasonable. He followed everything on the timeline and did a good job setting the right mood for every part of the wedding. We would give David 5 stars for how great he was on the day of the wedding, except that leading up to it, we had a very hard time getting in touch with him and getting responses to questions. It had us nervous about whether he was even going to show up, or if he would know what was going on. Several times he responded to questions with one word answers that didn't seem friendly or professional. With the song that I requested for me to walk down the aisle, we asked him if he could share a little clip of it so that we would know what it would sound like. He said he had to learn it, and even though he had about 10 months to do it, we never received a clip and about 2 months prior to the wedding, he texted asking if we could pick a different song because he didn't have time to learn it. In the end, he did learn it and did a great job with it, but we had no idea what would happen until I was walking down the aisle. It was really difficult to get him on the phone to talk about the timeline even a few weeks prior to the wedding. Honestly, if we didn't have an incredible day-of coordinator who I knew would make sure David did things at the right time and who assured us that he would really deliver on the day of, we would have been panicking because we weren't sure if David cared at all about our wedding. We are super grateful for how wonderfully he played, sang, and performed on the day of our wedding. But we would have appreciated a more timely and professional communication, and a little more effort to plan with us. read more

We hired David for our wedding last year, and we are so happy that we did! We read reviews about communication not being so great, and actually came across a review saying that although he doesn't get back to you, he shows up on the day and does an amazing job. We put all our faith into whoever wrote that review, and they were right. David sent us his song list, and we sent it back with our choices for the ceremony and reception. I had a few requests about the songs for our ceremony: to play a song acoustically for the bridal party, then change the song for my dad and I, and continue that song as the ceremony ended. We weren't sure how it would all turn out, but David was flawless. Our guests had so many compliments for David during the cocktail hour, and he surpassed all of our expectations. (Also got a lot of compliments from the single ladies--he's very handsome!) The thing that set him apart was that when he finished his set (is that even what you'd call it?), my husband had a surprise performance for me. He was going to play our song on his guitar, but realized that the sound wasn't working right. David helped him get set up, and held the mic up for the entire song. His "paid time" was up by then, but he went out of his way to help! That shows more of his character than anything else I could share. He was personable, friendly, professional, and the perfect entertainer for our wedding. If you're considering David for hire, don't get discouraged if you don't hear back right away. HIRE THIS GUY! Seriously! We hired David Asing to perform for four (4) hours at our son's baby luau. He made the party great. We had no set of instructions or requests. However, He performed above and beyond our expectations. He showed up half an hour before the event to set up. People arrived early but since he was already set he started performing. He had an easy going style and knew how to read the crowd. His website has his song list and it was a very good mix of Hawaiian, contemporary, and easy listening. I have been to parties where the musician would take 1-2 breaks between music sets. Not David tho, he took about three breaks total, and that includes eating for less than ten minutes. We actually kept asking him to take a break but he was happy to perform. When he took a break he already had a playlist of music playing on his speaker system so we never had downtime with no music. David also knew how to read the room and work on the fly. Many times when we needed something announced (i.e. restroom locations, prayer, etc). He would fade off his music then announce it for us. There was a moment that really impressed me. My son was playing with a balloon in front of the stage while everyone was eating. As David saw my son playing he changed his music set to the Alphabet song. From there it switched to a medley of children's songs, ending with "If your happy and you know it Clap your hands". In the song, he added my son's name "Makana" into it. Saying "if your happy and you know it yell Makana!" The whole party got into it cheering my son's name. It was one of those moments that I as a parent will always remember. Some reviews on here mention his slow response time to emails and such. He would usually respond within 48 hrs for us. Also, you could always call him as well if needed. You have no idea how many people at the party were impressed and asked who the musician was. So if you're looking for someone that is very professional, happy to perform, and really wants to give you more than you would look for in a musician. Hire David. He arrived on time, dressed well and besides giving him one specific song to play for the ceremony, let him play as he felt would be best and he did a great job. He was also able to provide a battery powered speaker and mic for our outdoor beach ceremony. We also hired two drummers and a fire dancer through him for our reception. It was POURING when they arrived, but they were able to change what is usually a performance on an outdoor lawn to accommodate the covered pavilion and everyone LOVED it. His personality and calm demeanor was so welcoming, as he bent over backwards to accommodate all of our requests. Nearly all of our communication with David prior to the wedding was from Australia, and we had no issue organizing anything prior to the wedding date. We sent through several requests of songs to be performed during the ceremony and cocktail hour, and he nailed every single one (different genres, by the way) we asked him to play. We even sent through a timeline less than 24 hours prior to the wedding, and he made sure that everything ran according to schedule! David @ Akahi Productions was recommended to me when I was looking for an acoustic, traditional Hawaiian band for our cocktail hour at our wedding. I'm a classical musician, so I'm very picky when hiring other musicians. David was incredibly nice and also mentioned that he had dancers who could come and hula with the band. I decided to have a 3 piece band and one dancer. They were fabulous! All of the guests are still raving about them. We booked David and his team for entertainment throughout the course of our wedding. From start to finish David did an amazing job of making our wedding memorable. During the ceremony the live guitar music was fantastic. In fact, many guests told me after the wedding that the guitarist was sensational and added to the beautiful Hawaiian scenery. In addition to their great skill, David and his team were also very professional. One incident that proves how professional they are was when my wife and I decided to dance out of sequence. During this time David quickly began playing our first dance song! As the evening progressed we then had Hula and fire knife dance shows. Both shows were amazing and David even had some un-expected surprises. I was not aware that during the Hula show guests were invited on to the stage to learn some of the dances; this was great fun for the entire wedding party! Certainly, an activity not at many weddings! Another testament to the Hula dancing was the quality of the show. Later in our trip we visited the Polynesian Center and felt that David's Hula dancers had more talent, more fun, and more energy than the Hula show at that highly rated center.
