As for my gel manicure and my pedicure, she did an awesome job. I'm picky about my gel. I don't like when it's too this and I hate when it's too thin. I love glitter and she did an awesome glitter fade on my tips. Then she did a nail design on my toes and also added glitter. There is no way this Groupon was freaking worth $75. Natalie Flowers was the stylist for the Groupon deal and I have to say the hair cut I got is pretty garbage. I now have to go to ANOTHER place to fix the uneven, shaggy, mess she made of my hair. If I wanted my hair to look like this, I could have gone to SuperCuts. She did not blend the layers in or double check her work. I have strands that are noticeably longer than the rest. Ugh. So garbage. I even said while I was in the chair, "this side looks more layered than this side". Her response was, "you have more hair on that side". OMG. I hate it. Don't go to her. She didn't even dry my hair thoroughly. It was still wet underneath. Hate it. If you still have an unused Groupon for this service DON'T DO IT. read more

I went back to get an emergency eyelash extension removal because I ended up being allergic to the once fabulous lashes I got the week before. I saw Li who is amazing and not only did she remove my lashes that had too much glue on them (the application was sloppy), she also gave me tips on what to do next time I want extensions. Li also puts on extensions but my eyes are just too raw right now. I'm letting my brows grow out because she also does threading and facials. I'm looking forward to getting my brows threaded sometime soon. So far, everything about that salon is pleasing to me. I also like the selection of products they have on sale as well as flat irons and curlers which are reasonably priced. If you have had a bad eyelash extension job, Li removes the lashes with little to no pain regardless of how over glued or messed up they are. :) read more

Hazel Lee is a FANTASTIC eyelash extension artist. Not only are my eyelashes bold and beautiful, I often get comments on how natural they look. Hazel really enjoys doing it, and you can tell because they look natural yet dramatic and she takes her time tok place them properly. While the cut came out great, there's two things made my experience less than ideal: 1) The stylist made no conversation with me whatsoever except to ask what kind of haircut I wanted 2) The stylist asked me to get cash from across the street, but I'm pretty sure I saw a credit card machine in the salon I'll might give this place another chance, but I'll probably request for another stylist. read more

This review is for the stylist Natalie. I also took advantage of the Groupon deal and am really happy with my cut. The deal mentioned a deep-conditioning treatment, but I only got a standard wash before the cut and some spray product applied after. So I'm not sure that part of the deal was fulfilled, but for $25, it was a good value nonetheless. Honestly, I'm not sure why a basic cut would cost much more than that, as it's done in a quick 30 minutes with very little product or materials required. Natalie was really friendly and open and she did a great job cutting and styling my hair. I cut off a few inches and added in some layers; it looks and feels natural, yet styled too. I just got my haircut from J (the owner) at J Boutique and I am sooo happy with it! Not only did she cut my hair exactly how I wanted it (unlike other stylists who couldn't get it right including those at Chop, and some other unnamed few), it only cost $37!! I can't believe what a bargain it is. The salon is very clean and she was right on time. I've tried probably 10 different salons and have never felt so happy after leaving -- can I say it again? Great haircut at an amazing price. The shampoo didn't include any fancy massage or anything, but I don't care for a haircut that was right on par. Anyone living in Hawaii Kai should really give this place a shot. I guess the stylists are all independent so I can't speak for anyone else, other than J. I purchased a Groupon for the salon last week and just redeemed it with Lorea yesterday. She was amazing! I was a little skeptical because there were some bad Groupon reviews for this place, but I figured it was awhile ago and I lived nearby so why not. Lorea was great! She did an initial assessment of my current cut when I first sat down, which made me feel better that she knew what she was doing. And then she gave me a Moroccan Oil deep conditioning treatment and a great cut. I asked her to leave my length but clean up my layers and it looks great. You can always tell how good your haircut was the next day when you have to blow out your hair yourself. So I waited until today to write a review to make sure I still liked it as much after I styled my hair myself. And I'm still impressed! I'll definitely be back. read more

I've been going to J for all of my cut and color needs for the last 8 years; as a fashion blogger, its EXTREMELY important to me that my hair is done exactly how I want it. Compared to many salons I've experienced both in LA and Orange County, I have yet to find another hairdresser better than J (or at a better price!). What I appreciate most about J is that she isn't afraid to tell you the truth- if I come in with an idea for a certain style or color, she won't hesitate to tell me if she believes it wouldn't look good based on my current hair color or hair. Even better, she will suggest minor changes that will work better for my type of hair, many of which include technical terms I don't completely understand. J will take the time to explain exactly what she plans to do, and often asks if I'm comfortable with the length she is cutting or the hairstyle as she is working on it. I most recently visited her salon for a long bob and ashy highlights- my hair was a dark brown and she very honestly told me that the color may not be possible unless I came in for two coloring appointments. I explained that I would only be in Honolulu for a few more days, and instead she highlighted my hair and toned it (free of charge!). My hair color came out exactly how I wanted it, and I was touched that she found a way to help me find exactly what I was looking for with less time and money. Thank you J!! read more

After much research and finally deciding on J Salon from a previous yelp review, i had a consultation with Tracy Taylor. She was very nice, professional in manner as well as appearance. After discussing my concerns with her about finding a new stylist and one who was familiar with blonds, I decided to book an appointment for the next day as she had an opening. Very happy with the results, she did a FABULOUS JOB with the color and I am very pleased with the color. Bottom line, if you are from the mainland and freaking out about finding a new colorist/stylist, I would recommend Tracy at J Boutique and Salon. A hidden GEM for eyelashes! Being Asian and not having the fullest lashes it is hard to find an eyelash extension place that works with what I have to maximize it 500x. You need to trust her recommendations. Jenny does an amazing and meticulous job, taking her time to make you look gorgeous. Jenny is personable, professional, cute and strives for perfection. When she works on my lashes, she treats my lashes with such care, passion and excellence. Her work lasts 2x longer than any other place I have been to and worth every $!! Unfortunately I live in Mililani and this place is in Hawaii Kai but to me, it's worth it! When you first walk in it is a hair salon but Jenny has her own private room in the back of the salon. Sure the hair looks good right out of the salon, but in a few weeks the brassiness comes back. All that money for color right down the drain. So Lana started by finding out what I wanted my color to be. I picked a shade, an ashy light brown. Lana gave her expert advice and explained that I should try one shade darker to keep a rich tone. Boy, was she right! The color was gorgeous! Then she suggested a cut that would make my fine textured hair look more full of body. I tried bleaching my hair at home (mistake) so I went into the salon to have it fixed. I showed her what I wanted and she said she could do it. So $280 later it was still yellow, almost orange! I went back and asked if they could fix it because it was not what we had agreed on. Another $200 later, I still had yellow hair! I spoke with the manager and calmly explained that the stylist said she could do this and I am still yellow headed, not blonde. She kept saying "oh your so pretty it doesnt even matter your hair color" and I felt she just was totally ignoring what I was trying to tell her. Then she was like, you can never go that blonde! Its not fair that I was told I could go that blonde the first day and now that I have spent almost $500 I cant?!? So needless to say, I walked out of there extremely disappointed and I felt like the manager and Lorea (the stylist) did not listen to anything I said. I went home and youtubed how to bleach hair. Now I am the blonde I wanted for only $30! :) If the stylist had said the first visit, I cant do this, but I can take the orange out and make it one color and maybe eventually we can get you this color or a shade close to it, I would have been totally fine with that. But instead I was promised one thing, paid for something, and never got it and dealt with hassle. I will never go there again and will not recommend this place to anyone! I went to J boutique salon because I got a groupon deal, which included deep conditioning treatment, haircut and a blow out. I thought it was gonna be nice because it's in Hawaii Kai and the pictures of salon looked nice. WRONG!!!! The salon looks congested and small. The hairstylists cut hair sitting down! I never received deep conditioning and the haircut Natalie did was terrible. I was disappointed because I've gotten banks but I thought I will wait and see if I can get use to it. Well next day I washed my hair and then I saw how terrible my haircut was. It was chopped all over the place, I couldn't make out of what she was trying to do there. I didn't want to leave the house, because I looked horrible. I called up my old hairstylist and asked her if she can fix my hair. Jenny Pang is WONDERFUL! I wanted to get eyelash extensions done today, but she was already out of appointments, since I was only in town for a few days, she accommodated by taking me after closing. The extensions look amazing, makes a statement yet still looks natural, can't even tell that it's extensions. Jenny was so nice, made me feel very comfortable even though the process is not. Lying still with your eyes closed for 90mins is not easy, even though there's a pillow, the back of my head and neck started to hurt after a while. I can move my arms and legs a bit, but was still so stiff that felt like rigor mortis was setting in... Throughout the whole process, Jenny kept telling me "thank you" for staying still and not fidgeting, I mean, she did a fantastic job I should be thanking her, right? Thank you Jenny! read more

What do you do when you find out (just before leaving work) that you're being interviewed the next day for a better position? GET YOUR ROOTS TOUCHED UP AND THAT SHAGGY MANE TRIMMED, that's what. Not willing to take a chance on the cheap franchise clip joints, I stopped by J's in hopes of someone willing to take a walk-in. Haecha kindly stayed late, and did a FANTASTIC job! I was so pleased, thanking my lucky stars that I had finally found someone to trust with my hair, close to home, and in a very pleasing atmosphere! $140. But then... The next visit was good. Not a great cut. But pricey for a trim ($60 with tip). A bit uneven, but hey, everyone has an off day every now and again, right? And the next cut, even more "off " - but I thought, oh, there was another customer waiting, so it was a rush, and that now even longer section was now really beginning to bug me! Time to seriously rethink this. Next visit, same thing???What is going on??? So that gets us to my very LAST visit to J. Just less than a month since it was trimmed and the cut just IS NOT WORKING. Time to recolor anyways. After several missed calls and phone tag, and a message that 10 isn't good, could I make it @noon,I am set for a Saturday visit to the salon to end a very long week. No...as I'm in late late traffic Friday after work, Haecha lets me know that Saturday won't work,can I come in now? Cut, color and product: $180. The look on my face when I get home and get a good look? PRICELESS. My husband said as I walk in the door "aw, honey, I always liked that asymmetrical look, but don't you think it kinda went out in the '80's?" And my 15 y.o. said "hey, it's like that guy from Flock of Seagulls!" I unhappily lock myself in the bathroom and yell ITS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE ASSYMETRICAL!!! Well, guess what Mom was for Halloween? NOT MARILYN Monroe, that's for dang sure... Epilogue: The day after Halloween I went to BellaViva. Stylist there actually took a measurement: 1&1/4" difference in back between the right and left side!!! Epic review for that coming soon...Jsalon gets 3 stars overall, very nice atmosphere, clean, comfortable, nice people. Haecha started off well, and honestly, she is warm and friendly, and I LIKE her. Just got my nails done with Su jin. She us awesome. She did such a great job on my nails. I usually leave after getting my nails done feeling like something is missing, and not completely satisfied. I've had a couple rough hair cuts at the previous salon I went to. I won't name names. So I decided to try J Salon in Hawaii Kai. I must say I was very happy and will stick to this place if my hair is consistent with the cut I got today. Mens cut cost me $27 which included a shampoo after and touched up my hair to get the small spots that were missed after drying it. Everything was just worth it. For guys that are picky with their hair, this salon will definitely style you nicely and make sure you don't have to touch up spots yourself after you go home and wash your hair. read more

This review is for Hasia who is a cosmetologist there. She gave me the WORST eyebrow wax I've never had in my life. My eyebrows already have a shape and arch to it and I asked for a "clean up." She took so much off I barely had any hair at the end. She also took so much off at the ends my arch ends abruptly with no tail. On top of that she overcharged me for an eyebrow wax. I got my lashes done by Jenny Pang. She does a fantastic job every time! Her prices are very reasonable and she takes her time to make sure you leave with a beautiful and full set of lashes. Went to J salon and had a brow wax after a bad experience at a different salon in Hawaii Kai! Su did a wonderful job and even though she wanted to go a bit thinner she listened and did them the way I wanted them! Because if the job she did and her great personality I went back for a pedicure two days later, Su was busy so I had Raynette do my pedi......fantastic job! I will be returning for both services! Scheduled a hair appointment for our 7 year old girl. The owner (J?) decided that she would be the one to do it. Paid for full service. But J was in too much of a hurry to do the full service. No shampoo. No blow dry. Asked J to tie in tinsel as requested when we made the appointment. J decided she didn't have time to do it during the appointment. She told us that we would have to do it ourselves. J said that she had another appointment waiting. So five minutes, in and out. Not 5 minutes after we left, we passed by and saw J outside eating lunch with one of her employees. Supercuts was more than happy to follow up with the shampoo, dry, and tinsel. This review is for Tracy Taylor, Li, Hecha and J herself. I have been going to Tracy Taylor at Taylor Made Hair in J Boutique and Salon for nearly 6 years. Tracy is absolutely FABULOUS! She does color and color corrections which is really the type of stylist you want. If your previous stylist made a color error and you want to scream, Tracy can fix it. I get blonde highlights and she has nailed the color EVERY SINGLE TIME SINCE THE FIRST TIME I WENT TO HER. My hair is tricky to color and I haven't always had the best of luck with other stylist making me the perfect, warm, sandy blonde with gold highlights. Tracy has I believe 20 years of experience with hair styling and coloring and she's just a natural talent. Don't be afraid, she's super sweet and really listens to what you want done to your hair. If it's not "doable" she will let you know to prevent any severe damage to your hair (for example going from jet black to platinum blonde!). I love Tracy and book my appointments for a whole year in advance. Li is the "go to" girl at this salon for facials and eyebrows and eyelashes. She is the utomost professional, calming and very sweet. She knows her stuff and my face has always glowed upon leaving. She uses only YONKA products and for you spa junkies, this is the top of the line. She also does a little bit of facial massage and that is heaven. She is also an LMT therapist so I can't wait to try her for a body massage. Hecha and J are SUPER SWEET. I have gone to them on occasion when Tracy was super busy or unable to book me for blow outs.
