Love this dog park! It's large and usually pretty sunny because of its location on the east side. I go frequently with friends weekly! Other dog owners are usually pretty friendly and in control of their dogs, I haven't seen many dog confrontations. Just one here or there. But there is a smaller park for smaller dogs that is rarely used so dog owners will take their dog to in order to cool off. Due to the size and weather, it's really hard to beat! The parking is ample, but just be careful of you dogs toesy as there's a recycling center at the opposite end of the parking lot, so there are some glass shards on the ground closer to that side.

This is another delightful dog park in Honolulu. So much space, beautiful cut grass, water areas for drinking, trees for shade and benches. A few more benches would be nice. Still, enjoy this park. Completely safe fenced small dog area and dogs small and large in the big area. Nice people, clean place.

My veterinarian is down the road from the dog park and I like to come here to burn off some energy so my dog won't be so active in the waiting area. I came here a couple of times and it seemed to be a great place. There's a great lawn for the large dogs to run and play. I like how there's a small gated area for smaller dogs. I always think that's a good idea and should be something all parks should think about. There's a couple of water fountains along the great lawn, but my dog preferred the one in the front - by the gate. The other dogs seemed to like him as well as their owners. The park was clean and had very green grass. It's well maintained and seems like the regulars take care of the facility. What I thought was very cool was that there were a few ball launchers on the gate. Thank you to whoever donate that! The park is located in the same lot as the recycling area. Lots of parking. We will be back soon :)

Lots of parking. Its a dog park within a dog park. There is a big tree and table benches, but still wish they had more trees or shade. There are water fountains. Right now, the grass is pleasantly green and the weather cool. It can get sunny, so bring hat and sunscreen.

Great park with an amazing view of the beach makes it very relaxing. I enjoy been here as much as my dog. Is clean and had plenty of space of my pet to run. I would definitely recommend it.

Our two dogs love their nightly visits to the dog park! It's so convenient - the parking lot is large and we can back our truck up to the slight berm facing the street, drop the tailgate and voila, Ginger and Sully jump down without a fuss. The park is conveniently stocked with poop bags in case you forget, and there are water bowls under the spigot for your thirsty pooch. There's even a separate area for smaller dogs - or if your best friend doesn't get along with others. It's also a good place to park and walk your dogs around Hawai'i Kai - the loop around Keahole to Kalanianaole to Hawaii Kai Drive and back is about 2.9 miles, and it's all flat. If you need a restroom break (hopefully you're with someone else who can watch the dogs), you'll have to wait til Safeway.

Small dog park and big dog park!

Echo here, Meg's attractive, graceful and perfect-in-every-way italian greyhound. I'll be guest reviewing for you today and I'd like to tell you about the green pastures of the Hawaii Kai Dog park. Granted, my humans live much closer to the diamond head bark park but this dog park coincides with the location of one of their frequent haunts: Costco. I always really like the dogs here. Some need reminding that I am NOT a sex object but most are respectful and playful. It's always great to have other dogs to challenge to a race- that of course I always win! The humans are nice too. Many like talking with my humans, which gives me more time to sniff tree, run around and chase my brother, Koa. There is water available in case your dog needs a drink after I run around with him and there are poop bags too, for the inevitable. Well, thanks for reading my review, I think I'm going to go back to snoozing in the sun and hoping that the humans bring me back to the Hawaii Kai dog park soon! Oh by the way, one thing I love but my humans hate are the cats that have literally taken over the parking lot. They like teasing us superior species by strolling right beyond the fence. Just let me at them, honestly! I'll make sure they don't come back!

Like many of the reviewers on here, I have been to quite a few dog parks on this island, and this one is by far my favorite one. I live in town, so the new Ala Wai dog park or even the Humane Society one would be more convenient for me, but I believe the drive to Hawaii Kai (even during the rush hour) is totally worth it for my dog. My dog, Bud, truly loves this park. I can tell, because he PULLS me toward the gate every time we are walking there from the parking lot. He does not show this type of excitement for any other dog park. I think he loves this one because it has a very vast field that is still filled with grass, so he won't hurt his paws (unlike at the Ala Wai park where this is virtually no more grass). Also, there are water spigots for your dogs, and plenty of tennis balls stored along the fence! The community at this park is friendly and peaceful. It's more of a social scene than anything for dog lovers. I don't mind making new friends when I'm out, so the dog talk doesn't bother me. If, however, you are looking for more of a solitary experience, there are plenty of benches and tables for you to at at and relax. It's ok if you want to keep to yourself. I get it. I go there during the day if I feel like just having some one-on-one time with my dog. The park is almost always empty before 3pm. After 3pm, the park will start to fill up. So, I take Bud there when I feel that he needs to socialize more, and when I also feel like socializing. Plus, the view of the sunset is amazing from here. Finally, the park is INCREDIBLY CLEAN, and I've always wondered how they keep it so clean, and tonight I ran into a couple of volunteer ladies who seem to go there every day to clean the doggie bowls and clean it the water jugs. Also, there are plastic chests behind each bench FILLED with plastic bags donated by the community members, so the owners always have the means to pick up after their pooch! The park is very easy to find with plenty of parking. We RUVV this park! (ruff!)

Out of all the dog parks in Hawaii, I'd say this is definitely the BEST one! It's HUGE and waaaay cleaner than the others. They even have a separate fenced off area for smaller dogs. My BF wanted to take our Jack Russell into the small dog area, but I was like, "Hell to the N-O! Shyloh likes to play with the big dogs and I'm afraid of what she'll do to the little ones. That girls got a big mouth and she has "Alpha Dog Syndrome." The big ones put her in check... sometimes. I don't mind driving all the way to HK for my doggie to go to a decent park. All the ones in town are dirty, muddy and small. My second choice is Ala Wai and that's not even a real dog park. HK also has so many different kinds of dogs that I never see anywhere else... Like a GIANT BLACK POODLE!

The fight.

A very nice and big dog park and I would have given it 5 stars except for three things. 1. There was a bum fight in the parking lot on a Monday morning. They seem to live in the trees behind the park. 2. There were tons of flies. 3. There were homeless siphoning water out of the water faucets. It might be best to come when it is crowded or on the weekends.

View of the mountains from the park. Also, lots of parking!

The park is spacious, has great views, and is a popular place for dogs to socialize and burn off energy. Most of the dog owners are friendly and attentive, which creates a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. It's clear why this park is such a favorite for locals. That said, cleanliness is an area that could really use improvement. On several visits, there has been noticeable dog waste left behind, along with overflowing or poorly maintained trash areas. This takes away from an otherwise great experience and can be unpleasant for both dogs and owners. With more consistent cleaning and better enforcement of waste pickup, this park could easily be one of the best dog parks around. This small neighborhood park really reminds me of the neighborhood park Makana & I normally like to go to - (Kalaepohaku Park). Hunakai Park is clean and well kept. There is large rocks/boulders surrounded around the outside perimeter of the park, I guess it's to keep anyone from driving on the beautiful green grass? There is no private parking lot for this park, but finding parking is not an issue here, as there is a lot of street parking available. A few things I found kinda weird about this park - 1. I noticed there were no trash cans, benches, or picnic tables at this park, but I guess since it's a private park..........maybe there is nobody around that can regularly maintain it? 2. There was no jungle gym for kids to play on, but again, since it's a private park.........maybe liability issues just in case someone gets hurt? One this that this park did have, was a sand pit at one end of the park, and I guess the pit could be used for "beach volleyball", but I did not see any volleyball net set up. Overall, it's just a nice open field park with some trees.........good for bringing doggies here so you can let them run around. :D

So I've been trying to find parks with different types of equipment. I'm like a park stalker, haha. While driving, I'd look out at parks and check out the equipment at the parks. I've seen quite a few ones but then I look at the reviews on Yelp and it turns me away. Reviews say that there's a lot of homeless or theft there. But today I discovered a website that's shows me all the playground equipment at all the parks. And I found this great park today. It's really close to my home so I'm so glad that I found it. My daughter loves this park. She's quite a monkey and she loves to climb the apparatus. She went up the stairs and down the slide many times. They also had a disk where you could stand or sit and you could spin on it. We don't have that at our neighborhood park. I showed her how to do it and she loved it. She kept wanting to do it over and over again. She spun around so much and was laughing the whole time. In addition to the playground equipment they also have a big area where you can have a picnic or lunch. They have several picnic tables to sit at. They also have a tennis court, basketball court, and volleyball court. Best park I've been to so far! I will definitely come back soon!

Discovering a new park while trying to figure out dinner plans is even more epic. The Hawaii Kai neighborhood is often a quiet one, so I was interested in finding the Hahaione Valley Neighborhood park deep in the valley is always a blessing when I needed a place of solace to sort out what life has dealt to me on this particular day It was also a time to think about what was for dinner on a casual Sunday afternoon in April 2020. I arrived here around 4:30pm via public transportation. Only 1 route on The Bus comes through this stretch of paradise. This route is route 1L and 80A and probably only on the eastbound direction. It stops in front of the park, which is awesome! During my most recent stay at the Hahaione Valley Neighborhood park, I tended to just slow walk around the perimeter of the park (as most of my experiences at local parks are these days) and check out what this park has to offer. The plus side is that there's nice gym equipment for kids to play and families to gather here for an evening to spend time together. The equipment doesn't look aged at all and the park itself seems maintained on a weekly basis. There is also a nice tennis court on the property, which is nice for anyone who loves a pick up game of tennis. I should get back into it sometime when I am not running. I spent about an hour here relaxing, enjoying, and walking through the park before making my lunch plans. It's always nice to have the park do your serious thinking for you. The overall experience here at the Hahaione Valley Neighborhood park is classified as subtle, classic, and quiet. The wind that comes through the area is always brisk and sometimes breezy too. While I was here at the Hahaione Valley Neighborhood park, there was just a few of people here, not including myself. Neighborhood parks are a great and inexpensive way to spend the day without having to spend money. Of course, you can walk and cruise the mall, but chances are you don't spend money at a park. I love the groomed nature of the park and how neat and organized everything here is. I do enjoy the park picnic benches that are around the park. It's nice to be able to sit here and enjoy yourself while having an outside lunch or dinner before heading home. The quiet ambiance of Hahaione Valley Neighborhood park is what excites me when I can come back here. For the most part though, I ended up walking around the perimeter of the park, which isn't too far around. I also people watched as something to do while doing those laps. I enjoyed the fact that this neighborhood park is definitely clean and away from basically everything and off the main road. If you ever need the mental time off, consider coming here to rest and recharge. Although the 2020 pandemic can be a problem, do what you can so that the Hahaione Valley Neighborhood park can be of value to you. I'd recommend coming here if you are in the area and worth every second being here. It made me smile and hope it will bring you happiness too. The Hahaione Valley Neighborhood park has been a fun and soothing discovery. I'm glad that there is no visible homeless situation here - at least during the day. One major turn off when I come to neighborhood parks is the tents and all the garbage that's haphazardly on the property. I enjoyed my experience here at the Hahaione Valley Neighborhood park, especially because it is tucked away into the residential area. It makes for a perfect peaceful getaway that's sure to please anyone and everyone who comes here. The park its great for families and individuals. It's physical address is 785 Ainapo Street in the heart of Hawaii Kai. Like all community and neighborhood parks, there is no admission fee, which is awesome and expected. As far as parking goes, your best bet would be to try to find street parking on residential roads wherever you can to be as close to the park as possible. Let mother nature take you where you want to be. Consider coming to Hahaione Valley Neighborhood park for a session. 5.0 stars for the overall experience. Oh they have a restroom facility on site.
