Despite being raised in Hawaii Kai, I never knew this park existed. Another dog owner told us about it, so we decided to take our pups one weekday afternoon. The park is easy to find. Just turn onto Bay Street from Kalanianaole Highway and it's at the end of the street. There's about a dozen or so parking spaces, and over half were available when we arrived. I didn't check the tides before we came, but it was obviously low as the sandbar went out for quite a ways. I'm told even when it's high there's enough sand to enjoy. There were a few other dogs there off-leash so after making sure ours did their business on the grassy area near the parking lot (cleaned up after of course) we cut them loose and they headed out to explore the sandbar. I've never seen 2 more happier dogs. It was also great for us to walk in the cool of the water on the sandbar. There are bathrooms and an outside shower on both the mens and womens side although it seems like everyone was using the one on the men's side of the building since it was closest to the parking lot. One dog owner had his own rubber hose that he slipped over the showerhead so he could rinse off his dog better. Great idea. Kuliouou is definitely the spot to leisurely stroll the sandbar and cool off on a hot afternoon. If you have dogs, let them wet their paws too and burn off some energy. Remember gang, always pick up after your pets. ;)
This park is very popular. Located off of Kalanianaole Hwy, when you are headed toward Hawaii Kai, you take a right on Kuliouou Rd (you take a left if you want to do to do the Kuliouou hike). The parking lot is small, maybe 12 spots. When it gets crowded some people will park in the middle of the lot. Although there is sand and water, there are no waves. It is a very nice place for picnics and parties for young kids. They do have bathrooms and outdoor showers but I have not been in the bathrooms in a long time. The most interesting time to go is at low tide. You can walk really far out on the sand bank. There are many tide pools where you can catch different fish, crabs, and other marine animals. Many people bring their dogs to play there.
A beach is never far away in Hawaii. Dogs are welcome at this beach and reserve in Kuliouou. The beach is sandy and water clear. The park is perfect to bring the kids for a swim and picnic. The park, which opens at 5:00 am and closes at 10:00 pm, is not crowded (at least on a Tuesday morning). There are palm trees, mangroves and other native plants along the beach. Iconic Hawaiian hills look down on the park. There are about 25 parking spaces, a dozen picnic tables, a basketball court and restroom facilities. There are plenty in of trash receptacles as well.
I really like this beach park. It's unique in that it is calm and shallow water. I like to lay on the sand and read a book and then walk out into the water. I saw lots of kiddos catching crabs in the tide pools, and would like to try that too.
This is a great beach park for a large group of people. There's a large grassy area. I recently went for a dog party and it is a great location for dogs and kids. It is also just beautiful and the water is relatively calm. The parking lot is small and often full on weekends.
Beautiful picturesque panoramic ocean views and wide open shallow playground for your water friendly dogs. You can wade in the shallow water for hundreds of feet toward the reef. Sandbars provide an epic playground for you and your dog to frolic in the gentle surf and sand. This unique park also has a basketball court, picnic tables, restrooms, drinking fountain and an outdoor shower to rinse off. There is a small parking lot and street parking at the entrance at Bay & Summer Streets. Definitely a nice local vibe and wide open skies that are a sun drenched tropical place to Chillax! Sunblock (Reef friendly Kine!) up and enjoy this quite off the beaten path park.
We come here almost every time we are on the island so my husband can fish on the flats. There are usually parking spaces in the lot. There are several picnic tables, garbage cans, toilets, a basketball court and a huge grassy area for pets. There are many ducks and birds who want any food. Nice views of the ocean, palm trees and mountains. I wish there were more shade trees or a covered pavilion. It's kind of a sketchy neighborhood with beggars and homeless people around. Police frequently patrol the area.
I totally love this beach! I honestly don't remember how I found this place but this is my go to beach when I have my fur baby with me! This beach is kind of hidden in between housing off the main road, but there's ample parking (usually) except for the weekends in the afternoon time as there is lots of people here with tents bbq-ing or having a party! There's some street parking around the housing area too and the walk isn't too far away from the beach. Low tide is the best! Sometimes you can walk all the way out and it'll still be really shallow! Sometimes this place is a full on beach with waves, but come during low tide with your leashed pup or your young kids and they will have such a good time here! This is also where I got my puppy accustomed to the ocean. She is a small pup with little legs so the big blue ocean must be really scary. I wouldn't stay past sunset. There isn't much lighting in the park other than the parking lot and it gets pretty creepy at night. Otherwise- this is a great place to hang out!
The best place to let your dog run around and swim. We come here at least once a week with our pup and he loves it. There are showers which make it easy to rinse the sand off of them afterwards. Check for tide levels and at low tide you can throw the ball pretty far for them.
East Oahu has some of the best beaches on the island. Kuliouou Beach Park is one of them. It's a fun, safe place for families or for soloists. I've never had a problem finding parking in the paved lot. And if it happens to be full, there is a lot of street parking just outside of the park. The bathrooms are cleaned daily and the park users are respectful and do not trash them or the park like at other parks around the island. As other Yelpers have pointed out, it's not a beach for swimming, which might explain why it's not as popular and crowded as other beaches, but it has a very large grassy area, ideal for picnics or BBQs. It's a great place for capturing the sunrise, especially when the tradewinds are down. I've come here a few times in the early morning to enjoy the sunrise with a cup of coffee and let me tell you, there's no better way to start the day. To get here, turn onto Bay Street from Kalanianaole Highway, and the park is at the end of Bay Street. According to the Hawaiian Humane Society website, dogs are allowed below the high tide line (dogs can be on the ocean side of the debris line, which is often marked by seaweed), which means that technically they aren't allowed on the beach, however I've seen a lot of dogs in the park and on the beach. Just be a responsible dog owner and clean up after your pet so that the park can be enjoyed by all.
Is this beach, nicknamed the secret beach? My son mentioned the secret beach, it just seems like it is.... I am happy to discover the secret beach, know as Kuliouou Beach Park. I've never know this place existed, until my son's beach clean up. I used to live in Kulioulou ( mountain side) & I don't remember seeing a beach. From the directions on my son's GPS on his phone, It is very easy to get to, but be careful, don't miss Bay St. Coming from Kalanianaole Hwy, make a right on Bay St. past a stop sign and you are there, Kuliouou Beach Park. FYI: This will take you to the back of Kuliouou Beach Park, not the front facing the busy street. I waited for my son while he did his beach clean up. & I fell in love with this beach, This beach is really clean & big.!! There are basketball & tennis court, clean bathrooms, quiet, & not as crowded. There are nice landscape, enjoy seeing the flower trees in front of parking lot. This really is a secret beach. Oh, I guess, not a secret anymore, after posting my review. After discovering this beach, I came back a few times for coffee break before heading to work. I will be back here at this beach for picnics & family time. So happy to have discovered this secret beach, Kuliouou Beach Park. Hawaii Kai's hidden secret!!
This is my 2nd visit to this park. There are not too many trees, has a slight breeze, and a grassy area. It is a great place to a picnic and go fishing at the end. You have to wait for low tide to cross over to the small island and water reservoir.
Can you keep a secret? Apparently some people can since I've just found out about this place recently! I'm more than able to keep a secret but a place like this is just too good not to share. I'm sure I echo many locals who ask themselves, "how have I missed this place?" or "why haven't I ever heard of this place before?" (refer to above). I used to think that Kuliouou Beach Park was just that area where the boat ramp is at but apparently this place is completely different!! I've been to the boat ramp area (the water is frequented by paddlers, SUPs, jet skiers and the like but I've never, ever noticed the beach PARK way to the right of the boat ramp. This is one the best kept beach parks on Oahu! Clean bathrooms (and shower), picnic tables galore (9-10), ample parking lot (guessing 20-25 spots), trash cans and literally a clean park! People who come here pick up after their pets and there is no glass or cigarette butts littering the beach or the very narrow shore (at high tide). What appeals to me the most about this beach park is the beach at low tide. It is beautiful! The shoreline becomes completely visible for quite a distance and you can walk in ankle deep (and less) for miles (ok, i exaggerate). The ever changing tides create a natural design in the sand that makes for interesting picture opportunities as well as a chance to "walk on water." And while I "walk on water" I can't help but sing the old Morris Day and Time's classic song from the eighties: "My jungle love, yeah (oh we oh we oh) I think I wanna know ya (know ya) Jungle love (oh we oh we oh) Girl, I need to show ya (show ya)" Makes me wonder if Morris Day has ever been to Kuliouou (oh we oh we oh) Beach Park.
Waikiki方面からHawaii'kaiの手前にある こじんまりしたビーチパークです。。 ピクニックテーブル、トイレもあり BBQも可能です。。 ビーチは砂浜部分も広くなっていますが 干潮時は特に遠浅部分が奥のほうまで広がり 水着の着用がなくても沖のほうまで行くことができます。。 ローカルの方は犬の散歩に来る方も 多いようです。。 子供の水遊びにも最適だと思います。。 駐車場は無料のスペースが 30台弱くらいはあると思います。。 駐車場が混雑することはないと思います。。 のんびり過ごせるビーチですが 風の強い日もあります。。 ファミリーからカップルまで ゆっくりのんびりできるビーチです。。 read more

This was a really cool find. Some friends invited us to hang out for a lazy afternoon and this beach was perfect for the kids. I've got four kids so the three youngest were able to find endless adventures in the shallow sand bar. I swear you could walk out 100+ yards in a foot deep of water. The park offers plenty of tables and open grass. I only wish I had brought my volleyball net. There's a huge open grass field which would be awesome for football, volleyball, kickball - you name it. What makes this park awesome is: 1) Ample flat grassy areas 2) Clean bathrooms (did I mention 4 kids?) 3) Tons of parking 4) Unique shallow sand bar for hours of supervised fun 5) Killer sunsets read more

Great to bring kids difficult to drown unless they are way out walked maybe .2 miles out, could walk .5 miles out saw people further out than me. Gorgeous sunsets and not busy great spot to bring dogs too read more
Who can walk on water? You can! With the majestic backdrops of Koko Crater & Hanauma Crater in the distance, you can walk for miles out to Maunalua Bay's shallow waters as it rises no higher than your knees. (If you're short, it's probably higher.) So what can you do at a beach where swimming is not an option? Take a walk into the sunset, go fishing in the nearby canal, play ball on the basketball courts or have a picnic! It's certainly a great little spot for gatherings. If they're multiple events at the park, the small parking lot can get packed, but there's ample street parking in the residential neighborhood. The park is small enough that the bathrooms & communal beach showers are a short walk from the grassy area with picnic tables scattered around. The park's maintained quite well & you'll see more dogs than bums here. read more
I'm writing another review with a bit of reluctance because I hope this place remains a hidden gem. I've lived here all of my life and literally passed by this place a hundred times and never knew about it until my never short on words insurance agent mentioned it to me. We just happened to be passing by and stopped--for a few hours more than desired. My friend's SUV's fuel pump died there. It is a beautiful park with very friendly regulars, all who tried to get my friend's vehicle started. They checked the fuel line, the fuses and listened to whether the fuel pump worked. Wala, all of that help and they were absolutely correct. The fuel pump died, just after sunset. If your car is going to break down I can't think of a better place than there, except maybe at home. I was so appreciative of their help that I brought the caretaker of the place some food and drinks and a cooler the next morning. We also got to walk out in the water for several hundred yards and met more friendly regulars and see the water and beach while fully lighted. To me, having the car breakdown there was a blessing. read more

My gf's daughter [1] was planning a beachside wedding and had this wedding package that included a ceremony at Kahala Beach Park. [1] She lives in Portland and found this wedding package for $950 through the internet. I'm thinking...everybody has a wedding at Kahala Beach Park. I'm thinking...this is a very special wedding that needs a more memorable place that the wedding party and guest will remember. I'm thinking...someplace that is a better reflection of what I think is Hawaii; with a magnificent view. I'm thinking ....Kuliouou Beach Park. The problem with my thinking is that it is not normal thinking. I like to blaze my own trails. If I recommend Kuliouou Beach Park; I will be the guy. I will be the guy that blazes trails. I will be the guy putting together the wedding package. I will be THAT guy. I post photos of Kuliouou Beach Park on my Yelp review of the park. I direct the bride-to-be to my Yelp review so that she can see the photos. She loved the photos. She wanted me to see if they could have their wedding at this park. She wanted me to be THAT guy!!! So now I am the wedding coordinator and start planning the wedding at Kuliouou Beach Park. I get the permit from City and County of Honolulu - Parks Department - Hananuma Bay Nature Reserve; find a wedding officiant and photographer and I'm feeling good about being THAT guy! A month goes by and one week before the wedding, my gf and her friend want to see the park. We get there at 6:20; the sun is down and it is cloudy; the parking lot is half full; people are playing volleyball and they look around. Gf: "Why did you pick THIS park? YUK! There are not enough trees in the park. I think you should change the wedding location to Kahala Beach Park!" Me: I look at her and without hesitation I pull out my wallet and give her a $5.00 bill. "I'll see the two of you in a week. The $5.00 is to catch a bus home." That's the thing about being THAT guy. You have to be cool, calm and collected; to deal with people that don't like to blaze their own trails. Monday July 25, 2010. 2:00 P.M. The bride and groom to be and his parents arrive at the park. It is a Monday and the parking lot is empty. There is only one other person using the park. It is quiet except for the rustling of leaves... no one will be getting in the way or interrupt the wedding. It is a bit windy but there are blue skies and a beautiful blue ocean in the background. Hanauma Crater looks magnificent as ever and sits majestically beyond the ocean blue. The photographer, Joseph Esser arrives and he is pleased with this park selection because of the many, many opportunities for portrait and ceremony photos with the green grass of the park; the white sandy beach; the blue ocean; the backdrops of Koko Head and Hanauma Crater. This is really an ideal place to shoot a wedding. At 3:00 P.M. the wedding ceremony begins with Kahu Bruce as the wedding officiant. He too is pleased with the site selection as the ceremony is near the water; and the ocean is a place where the Kings dwelled and conducted their business in old Hawaii. This is really an ideal place to conduct a wedding in the old Hawaiian way. The grooms parents are from Germany and this is their first trip to Hawaii. With the magnificent views in all direction from the park and discovering that they could see the back of Diamond Head to the west; the blessing and chanting in Hawaiian... they were pleased with the wedding site selection. Groom to be's father: "We enjoy these wonderful views. We love this place! This is really an ideal place to conduct our son's wedding." The wedding went without any glitches and everyone thought that the ceremony and Kuliouou Beach Park were the perfect combo for this wedding. It will be a special memory for the wedding couple, different from the multitudes of weddings held at Kahala Beach. It is special because it is different from the norm. It is special because of the magnificent setting that are created within and around this park. Gf: "You were right about this place. This turn out to be the perfect place to have a wedding. Good job!!" Me: "OK! Can I have my $5.00 back?" P.S. The photo of the wedding were fantastic. The wedding couple was happy that the wedding was held at Kuliouou Beach Park. P.P.S. I have never been to this beach before, but when it turns out that another yelper invited me to a volleyball clinic here, I couldn't refuse! It had all the trappings of a full blown UYE event, but ultimately it wasn't branded as such. Oh well. It was just a get together among friends. Make new friends as well as hanging out with familiar yelpers who I've seen around the island - on Yelp - but never in person. It turned out that Half of this volleyball clinic party's invitees for this shindig were yelpers. Some were gold elites whereas others were just first or second year elites. It was a great to see a few of them whom I have known for a while in person. The Kuli'ou'ou beach park is the perfect venue to do just that. Whether it's getting together with friends on a nice Saturday afternoon or just hang out and enjoy the outdoors of living in Hawai'i nei. Being here has rekindled my spirit and adds another depths of things to do in Hawaii without having to be cooped up in the house. The Kuli'ou'ou Beach Park is connected with the Maunalua Bay Beach Park and its entrance to the parking and the beach park itself is on the south side of Bay Street on the border of Niu Valley / Hawaii Kai. The best part usually or city and county of Honolulu parks is that, it's definitely free. Free is always a great thing. I'm sure if the government started to charge for the parks, nobody will be going anyway. The park itself is maintained beautifully and has hours from 7am to 11pm, I think. The park has a lot of green space and a few concrete benches with concrete tables to sit and lounge on. There's also a private basketball court too to get your game on whenever possible. Wearing sunscreen would be vital as well during the daylight, as it can get narly hot and sweltering, especially during the summer months earlier and earlier. Secret beach or just a hidden gem, you be the judge and come on out here. I'd like to thank Yelp extraordinaire Judy C for planning the group gathering here at Kuli'ou'ou beach park on Saturday, 1/23/2016. I'm glad that I do know now the location of the beach park and that it's a definitely tucked away from the main drag. The shore line and views are nice to look at, especially when you're stuck in the office all week and need that stress relief during the weekend. The beach is one of the best ways to do just that. Definitely the one of the best ways to live on the weekends, if you can help it. The sunrise and sunset is always spectacular and the ocean is always gentle with a flavorful disposition. The sound of the ocean never fails to soothe even when I am having the most craziest days at the office. The overall experience here at the Kuli'ou'ou beach park can be described as awesome, since it heals so many ills one can have due to society and life in ge tail. My first discovery here on January 23, 2016 only makes me smile more and more, since I'll be coming here more on the weekends, just to get away from the urban corridor of Honolulu. Unless it's wicked hot and humid, then it's the air conditioned hospitality of the nearest library or the neighborhood Starbucks. :) Support local! A+ read more

Among a few of the south shore beaches that are easily accessible but burrowed within residential housing is Kuliouou Beach Park. To get here, take Kalanianaole Highway going east bound to Hawaii Kai. Bay Street is sort of a hidden street on a short turn with a small sign if you don't have a navigation system. Take a left on Bay St. going all the way until you reach a cul-de-sac with plenty of designated parking specifically for park users. The ocean is easily visible from this point. Palm trees pave the way into the park as well as a few small ones throughout. Bathrooms are accessible, water fountains, high pressure faucet for cleaning your water gears, and a small basketball court. Spread about the open grass areas is a number of concrete picnic benches. There are minimal shades at this park. Many residential locals and minimal tourists visit and have BBQ's at the park. Local furry friends play in the water or walk on shore throughout the day with their masters. My pup seems to enjoy running amuck and tanning in the park. I've seen lots of kayaking, surfing and motor boats at a distance. If the water is not too murky, kids splash around the shallow waters and play on the soft sand. Local fishermen from all walks of life can get lucky and walk a great distance into the ocean to reach knee deep during low tides. In all the times I've visited this beach, the water has always been tranquil. Glancing east ward, Koko Head and Hanauma Bay Crater is part of the oceans vista. The park is adjacent to wildlife sanctuary. Paiko Lagoon has a fair share of shrubs and burrowed loose trunks with slippery green moss. Be careful as there are lots of lose shrubbery with thorns and sharp edges. My hair got stuck on a few. For the shutterbugs, I've walked around the area during sunrise and have witnessed colorful surprises and illuminating radiance during the setting the sun. Visited this beach because it was so close by to the Hawaii Kai dog park that we visited. I guess I must have visited during the lowest tide ever, as there was little of a nice view to see besides the backdrops of the mountains and the oceans. It was almost an eerie feeling to walk among the dried up beach as you hear "bubbling" of the tide running in and out of the dried and shallow reef of mixed sea weeds and coral rocks. The park itself is beautiful the grass very well maintained and lush. The park benches were also clean and well maintained. Maybe i'll visit again when the tide is higher and can write a review that this place deserves! read more

Not sure, I would think not but you might want to check with C&C. I believe they chain up the small parking lot.
