(This is a review of my overall experience with taking classes at the midtown, Inman Park, and…read moreWestside locations.) I figured I would hate this type of yoga: who wants to be hot and sweaty while trying to achieve calm and peace? But my first class at the Westside location with Theo was a positive experience all around. I have a dear friend who is a Yonder Yoga devotee and she brought me in as a guest. The hour long class flew by, I enjoyed being with so many other yogis at various levels and the heat element was surprisingly pleasant. I've since purchased the new unlimited membership for 40 bucks and it was well worth it for unlimited classes at any location for a month. (Just a quick email was all it took to make sure my account wasn't automatically renewed) The teachers are so encouraging and make the flows informative and engaging. The studio spaces I went to are very clean and mats are provided if needed. Definitely bring a water bottle, towel and I would also recommend bringing your own yoga towel for your mat. You are gonna sweat, but so is everyone else, and it isn't gross like I imagined before trying it out. I think my one critique of Yonder Yoga would be that it's intense and hard to jump into for those brand new to yoga or working out in general. I found that even the "foundations flow" class, designed for newbies, is hard. Thankfully, no one is demanding perfection in any of Yonder Yoga's classes.

Injury on day one, locked out on day two - zero flexibility or care for new members…read more I recently signed up for a trial membership, but after my experience over my first two visits, I will not be returning or converting to a full membership. My very first class set a terrible precedent: the instructor advised students to "lean into" painful stretches, which directly led to me injuring myself. Today was supposed to be my second class back after taking time off to heal that injury. I took a 20-minute walk to get to the studio and arrived three minutes past class time. The doors lock automatically after two minutes, which I understand in principle, but when I knocked, a staff member came to the door and flatly refused to let me in. Turning away a recovering student over a three-minute delay (especially after making the effort to walk there) shows a complete lack of empathy and customer care. To make matters worse, while the staff member offered to waive any late penalties, they couldn't even figure out how to process it in their system. I have since emailed management directly to request a waiver of any penalties and to immediately cancel my recurring membership, which is set to bill tomorrow. Given their rigid policies and total lack of client support, however, I'm certain they won't even entertain the request. Between unsafe instruction that caused an injury and an absurdly rigid locked-door policy, this studio has shown a total disregard for student well-being. Save your money and go somewhere that actually values its members.

I took the Warm deep stretch yoga class with Sarah Carlson and it was exactly what i needed for a beginner start Sarah was amazing at relaxing the room, but also describing what positions to do and what our body should feel in a very zen way. Sometimes in the past i felt like i was overwhelmed when trying to listen to the directions of where to put my hands hips feet etc but i was able to truly close my eyes and melt into the forms of the yin flow yoga. Also i really appreciate sarah's cultural respect to the indian roots. I came out of the class feeling like i got a 1 hour massage and hug all in one and just signed up for the other sessions i could with my pass. Might buy a mini pass but want to try the other classes too!

The instructor Cortney led us through several poses, allowing for deep stretches as we reflected on our day. She encouraged us to go in and out of poses as needed based on our comfort levels. The focus was truly on breath work; specifically breathing through your nose to allow warmth of air and exhaling through the nose or mouth. Usually they just narrate on a mic what needs to be done which definitely leaves room for error/injury specially for new beginners.

I can only imagine what yoga teachers have to endure-- harness all this energy that people bring to the room. I know I usually do yoga when I'm stressed out, need relief, want to relax and challenge my body to connect with the earth and become more grounded in the here and now. It's a lot to deal with I'm sure for the teachers, and this is true for any yoga studio. Yoga Hive is extra amazing at empathy and empowerment. They challenge you, and you definitely will get in serious yoga shape, but in a compassionate, non-judgmental way. The yoga instructors are really good here, and I mean, REALLY good. The sessions are filled with beginners to advanced dancers who are beyond gorgeous with their postures, and everyone is celebrated. But after a few classes at Highland Yoga, I have a feeling I may have found my new home. I've visited both the Buckhead and Brookhaven locations. Both are beautiful, but Brookhaven is definitely my favorite since it's so close to my house. It may not seem like a huge difference, but on those days when motivation is a little low, having a studio just minutes away makes it so much easier to stay consistent. I also want to give a special shout-out to Kindall. She has such a beautiful spirit and was incredibly welcoming. When you're trying a new studio, the people you encounter really shape your first impression, and she made me feel comfortable from the very beginning. Another thing I appreciate is the size of the studio. The waiting area is spacious, and the practice room itself never feels overcrowded. After a hot yoga class, we're all a little sweaty and tired, so having enough space makes a huge difference. I've been to studios that felt a bit cramped, and it can become overstimulating pretty quickly. Highland does a great job of creating an environment that feels open, calm, and comfortable. And I have to mention the parking--because convenient parking deserves its own paragraph! There's a free parking garage directly across from the studio that's less than a five-minute walk away. If you're unfamiliar with the area, that's such a nice bonus. On those mornings when you're running a little behind, the last thing you want to worry about is circling for parking before class. Thankfully, that's not something you have to think about here. I'm officially five classes in, and I can already say I think Highland Yoga has earned a new member.
