She was fortunate to find her dream gown: a $1300 gown for $299. Can't beat that! There were many gowns in good shape for great prices; my daughter's a size 12 so she had a fair number to choose from; I think she tried on at least 10. The consultant was very helpful but not at all pushy. The décor is plush 1970s (original) and quite comfortable, but for these prices I wouldn't care if it were in an outlet mall. Now, the downside. Naturally, when you buy a gown at a clearance center, it will likely need some alterations. The seamstress there said they would soon stop offering alterations on site but that I should call her in early September as she also works from home. So I called her right after Labor Day and she told me she was booked through October. Boo! However, she gave me the name of another seamstress in Janesville who turned out to be awesome working under time pressure. So the first seamstress redeemed herself a wee bit. One more thing: there were many, many bridesmaid dresses there at terrific prices, but the mother-of-the-bride section was almost non-existent. Bottom line: go here first just in case you luck out like my daughter did.

They have imperfections, tears, stains, etc. If you're crafty and ok with a fixer upper, this is a good place to go! I got some ideas on dress styles and will take those to Vera in Madison. There wasn't much traffic at this location, so we were helped right away. It is pretty far out, but it's nice for a fun little weekend pop-in, if you are in the area.

With a tight timeline and a…read morestrict budget, the bride-to-be was definitely feeling a bit apprehensive coming into the appointment. The gals at Premiere Couture did such a great job to turn the mood around and really put her in a much better state of mind about everything. The whole process, start to finish, was just amazing. Upon arrival we were shown to where the bride would be trying on dresses. There was a nice fitting room that sat adjacent to the mirror area where there was a bench and two arm chairs for anyone else attending the session. It was a bright and airy set-up that worked very well. Our consultant had about 4 or 5 dresses already pulled and ready to try on when we arrived. They had called the bride the day before to get a better idea of what she was looking for, the shape and style, etc, so that they would have a good jump-off point. The very first dress the bride tried is the one she ended up going with! Although the bride did indeed try on several others, at no point did we feel rushed, or that we were spending too much time. The consultants were super patient and wanted to make sure the bride got the perfect dress. Once the dress was chosen, we even did a fun little "I said yes" photo shoot to capture the moment. You could just tell from the smile on the bride's face how special and great she was feeling. When it's my turn to try on dresses, Premiere Couture is the place I know I will be shopping from. 10/10 highly recommend.

She took the time before my appointment to get to know me, my fiancé and our story. She listened to the things that I was looking for in a dress and was just super attentive. It was a wonderful experience with her. I love the dress that I got it came in way faster than it was supposed to which I was pleasantly surprised with. They were always quick to respond and get me in! When I went to pick my dress up and did the dress reveal Anna was the one that helped me. She also was such a kind person and was asking questions and getting to know me in the short amount of time.

If I could give Kathryn's 20 stars I would!!…read more We found a beautiful dress fairly last minute for Prom at a fair price. The shop is gorgeous, clean, and the staff professional and friendly. The dress selection was the best in the NW suburbs and they had TONS of unique styles to choose from. Unfortunately their alterations were booked so they gave us a list of places to go to get it hemmed. We went to Maria's Alterations in McHenry and Maria botched the hem/dress big time! (Kathryn's will no longer be referring to her. You can read that review separately) However, the staff at Kathryn's saved the day and fixed the dress at the last minute with 48 hours! Tammy the manager felt so badly when I called her to tell her about the dress being ruined that she told us to come right over to figure out a solution. Sherry the alterations lady came up with a solution and beautifully sewed/fixed the crooked hem within 48 hours. They saved the day for my daughters first prom! Thank you to everyone at Kathryn's for helping my daughter to look beautiful for prom and for saving the dress from disaster! You will always be our go to dress shop!!

I received a sealed envelope at a bridal show from Mahin's saying if I scheduled an appointment and…read moreselected my dress from there I could receive a "prize" up to a certain amount. I scheduled my appointment which they were nice about - they have good store hours. I explained what I wanted and my price range. They didn't have the type of dress I was looking for - tea length, strapless, corset back - but I picked out some dresses from the stuffy old rooms to try on. After trying them on Mahin said "I have just the dress for you." She brought in a dress that was very pretty, and a little more than DOUBLE my price range. I tried it on anyways, which I shouldn't have. It was an amazing dress and we sucked it up and bought it. My "prize" was a veil up to $200. I explained I didn't want a veil but rather a birdcage, which they have, and she said the "prize" didn't cover that I would have to get a veil or nothing. They added that if my bridesmaids bought their dresses from them they would receive a discount so we scheduled an appointment. When we came for that appointment she seemed annoyed by us, maybe she was having a bad day. I had one girl who was too little for the dress we ended up choosing so they gave us a book to look through for junior brides and flower girls. We didn't find anything we liked and said we'd look elsewhere for that last dress. Fast forward several weeks and I receive a call saying my dress was in. She said she noticed that I had 5 bridesmaids but that we had only ordered 4 dresses and she hadn't ordered them yet because she was waiting on the 5th one to decide on a dress. I explained that we had decided the day we were there not to order the 5th dress from her and she was quite rude saying that I never told her that and now the dresses may not arrive on time. I asked her to order the dresses and she did. When I came to try my dress on I immediately noticed an awful smell when entering the fitting room. It smelled like fish, bad! When putting the dress over my head it was clear the smell was coming from the dress. I was too excited to see the dress I didn't mention it. Then the dress didn't fit - it was too small. Mahin didn't seem to think anything of it and said when they had it altered they would move the modesty panel and it would be fine. While standing in what seemed to be a room with the temperature set to 120 degrees having her pin my hem she was again quite rude. She actually got quite loud with me when she insisted that I had moved and she would have to redo part of the pinning. My mother had to stand with me holding my arms so I didn't pass out due to the temperature so if I moved, I didn't mean to. $500+ later after alterations to hem it a few inches and put in the bustle I came back to try the dress on again. The fishy stench remained, the bustle clips were horrible, the hem was still too long, and it STILL DIDN'T FIT! Again, she didn't think anything of it and said that if I wear a girdle that should take care of it. I finally mentioned the smell, after everyone I had there with me said "yes, it's awful" and she didn't notice it. She said "maybe after we steam it it'll be better." The girls dresses came in and we decided NOT to use her alteration services so we just picked them up and left. The dresses were as expected and were all a little big, but that's better than small. I decided to pick my dress up several weeks before the wedding to see if we could do something about the smell. I "googled" it and apparently dresses that are shipped from over seas are sprayed with pesticides so that could have been the reason. We left it hang out and it got better, but never totally went away. I took my dress with to a different seamstress when the girls had their alterations done to ask for a different modesty panel to help my dress fit better and the wonderful woman explained that my dress was not anywhere near the right size. So, another $300+ later she put in panels on the side of the dress to get it to fit the best it could. This was all AFTER I had lost 15 lbs since I had been fitted in the first place. In the end, my $600 dress budget ended up costing me over $2000 and I smelled like fish on my wedding day.

After being measured once, I came back and it was like the dress was custom made for me. On top of that, Mahin clearly loves what she does. The outside of the building doesn't look like much, but don't let the appearance fool you. There's a huge selection inside, with lots of different styles. Highly recommended!

Their dressing rooms are nice sized and feel really private. Lydia was our consultant and she couldn't have been better! She started by asking me to describe what I liked, and she was able to put that into bridal terms. She was patient with my family picking our different options and she brought me some fantastic picks (including the dress I ended up falling for!). She brought me dresses under my budget too, which I really appreciated. She wasn't pushy at all. Vera herself even came in to say hi and brought me an option! Lydia was sweet, fun to work with, and asked me the right questions when I was torn between two options. I didn't feel rushed and was able to take my time going back and forth between two dresses. Overall, I had a great experience at Vera's and would highly recommend it!

Vera's is such an iconic spot that I had fairly high expectations but looking back felt neutral about my visit there. The store itself was clean and appeared to have numerous dresses in stock and were a variety of styles. After checking in we were taken back to a ready room where my bridal party was able to comfortably fit. My consult was polite but I'm not sure she understood my style. It felt like each dress I tried on was a hard sales pitch as to why that dress was "the one" rather than allowing my feedback to guide the dress selections. Then when it came time to ordering the size of the dress, I was shocked to see how poorly measured I was and that the staff member did not answer my questions when I had hesitations about the size she had chosen. I left feeling meh and anxious about my dress and feeling more like I had been pressured into the purchase than I cared to feel. Which is not a fun feeling after spending a large amount of money. After purchasing the dress, the list of tailor recommendations were horrible and thankfully I found someone not on the list. Overall I'm not sure I would go back there again for my dress.
