No AC. not even fans (that are on or even working properly). They just updated their change machine to a larger one which is great because the other ones would run out of coins and I'd be left $2-$3 short every other time I used it. Called the number on the front door and got my money only twice. I've been going long enough to know which washers and dryers are unreliable and break down a lot. The washers to dryers ratio is nuts. There's over twice as many washers as dryers so you shouldn't go on weekends or you'll be waiting forever for a dryer to open up and many people split their loads really small and take up too many. Owner is using it as storage for resale crap because there are laundry baskets full of glassware and old furniture/decor in the way, which I find odd. It's honestly such a bad idea because it's not climate controlled at all. I will say the dryers that do work dry really well. This laundromat is really close to my home, but I would go anywhere else otherwise. The environment is pretty chill and people keep to themselves. There are a few people who hog all of the folding tables, dryers and baskets occasionally, which is probably normal for laundromats. I can walk here but if you can't: parking is reallllly bad. The chairs they have for waiting are comfortable and they have regular tables if you need to study or something. Their bathroom is the least disgusting one I've ever seen at a laundromat. They really need to add more dryers, get AC, and move the junk they have stored out of the way. read more

There's no real AC, just a few fans pushing hot air around. Its hotter inside than the 100+ degrees outside. They just raised prices by 50 cents per machine. I'll be finding another laundromat tomorrow. Especially with the assets this man has been open about having, it seems absolutely ridiculous to add insult to injury by raising costs for people who clearly can't afford our own washers when it's dangerously hot inside to boot. read more

I came here to do a quick laundry before departing back home. Mama only had twenty, and to a man I assume owns this laundromat was so kind to give me a 10$ roll and ten-dollars bill (I needed to break my 20 and didn't want all quarters). He went out of his way to assist as he saw me running around looking for a store to help. Overall the inside could use some detailing but if he has no help or limited help, I get it. Came on a sunny Sunday afternoon and it was surprisingly empty. It's tucked away in a residential neighborhood which must be why it's been a hidden gem. There isn't any staff on hand so bring your own cash in change or expect to get a $20 bill in quarters. It's very spacious and has a nice little bench to sit on outside in the shade. Music is Lite FM but pleasant. It might be more expensive than other laundrymats in the area but it's worth not having to wait on machines or deal with broken machines. $2.50 for a big (regular) load and they have industrial sized machines for about $4. read more

Yes I feel compelled to review a laundry mat. My exciting Saturday morning. Three weeks worth of laundry done for about $10.00 and this was a pretty nice place to do it. No screaming kids, nice low key music plays in the background, an assortment of magazines (Time, New Yorker, Forbes.... Although I would appreciate a trashy magazine like Cosmo at my disposal). Lived in Houston for nearly 7 years and been using a laundromat for most of them and Haut Wash is by far the best. With most laundromats the best you can hope for is for everything to work as it should. But unfortunately things rarely go as planned with coin-op machines, this place however works as it should plus more! It's very clean, has 2 bathrooms which are serviced regularly, air circulating fans, nice tables and chairs and doesn't seem to ever be crowded. Parking is limited but I've never even had to park around the corner because the place is rarely crowded. Haut Wash is pretty much as good as it gets in the unmanned coin-op laundromat game and it has a little character too. The proprietor is a interesting looking older gentleman who leaves awesomely-strange notes all over the place. There are at least 2 or 3 places closer to my house but I choose to go a little out of my way to Haut Wash. read more

On two week biz trip & only packed for one, thus the reason for laundry place. I don't go to laundry places often, just biz trips & college years. This one seems typical nothing special, different size washers. Single load washers (count 17) is $2.50. Maybe I've been out of the game too long, but that seems high. Two load washers (count 18) - $4.00 .25 cents per 7 mins to dry (count 18) dryers. Biggest disappointment was no drier sheets or softener to purchase. I guess people don't mind going static. Change machine, soda machine, soap, bleach, softener machine, but like I said no softener for purchase. Like I said nothing special it gets the job done. read more

I have to agree with Anne K - this is one of the best laundromats I've been to (having experienced various laundromats in Philly, Orlando, and Houston). The one thing that I have to say is that it is a bit more expensive than the ones I've been to, but the pros seriously outweigh that one con. Each time I've gone, it has been a weekend day and before noon. I've been accompanied by, at the most, 10 other people doing laundry, but there is still ample space and there are many machines available. I've been able to get in an out under an hour doing 3 loads of laundry at a time. One of the things I love about this place is that the clientele seems to be super conscientious of one another - like if you leave something in a washer by mistake, people will let you know. Also, the clientele takes care of the space itself - the magazines are always put back, the trash is either put in the can or the recycle bin, there are virtually no spills (pet peeve and laundry ruiner!). Oh, and the bathrooms are super clean which is unreal for a laundromat. All in all, it's a great place to go do your laundry quickly and efficiently. A couple of tips: the change machine can be a bit finicky so make sure your bills are crisp and not weathered; they have a soda machine, but bring water because it can get a little toasty in there. Also, they don't really have a good selection of detergent/softener/bleach items so don't forget all of your supplies! read more

Used to wash here all the time before the days of my own house and washer and dryer. It was my favorite laundromat because it is in a quiet neighborhood strip center next to Mockingbird Bistro. I could easily study or read there and enjoy some quiet time while my laundry spun in the dryers. A little pricey but definitely worth it to get in an out so quickly and task accomplished with little to no hassle. Grateful to have this one close by. I never expected to review a laundromat. But this is the best laundromat I've been to in my 30-odd years of life. It's also the best laundromat I've been to in the three regions (Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast) and one other country (France) where I've lived and done laundry. So it deserved a review. Safe (good neighborhood and fancy restaurant just next door), plenty of space, plenty of machines (single, double, and triple load washers; tons of dryers), reasonable prices, bill-changer, inside seating and tables, restrooms, soap machine, vending machines, music, even outside seating! This place has it all, including funky, amusing signs and a cantankerous old owner. It's so cool, it's even on Flickr (look up "Haut Wash Flickr"). Laundromats just don't get any better, really. The only thing it really lacks is AC, but most laundromats don't have that and this place does have industrial-size fans to keep things cool. If it had wifi, I might just move in. Place locks up at 9pm and signs advise no loads after 8pm so don't go too late, but definitely go. read more

I don't have anything to compare this to since this is the only laundromat I've ever used in H-town (and I've only been here twice.) The facility is old but it was not very busy either time I've been here, so I like that I can take up as many machines as I want. HOWEVER, it is 93° out and there is no AC. The machines aren't cheap enough to make sweating my ass off worth it- the fans are just blowing around hot air and outside isn't any better. I might come back here during winter if I need a large machine, but I can't see myself doing this again any time soon. read more

This is really the best Houston has to offer?? With my dryer being broken and waiting until next week for repairs, I was in urgent need of clean clothes. No problem, that's what laundromat's are for. Yelp to the rescue! A quick search found this highly recommended laundromat near me. It was just like any other laundromat I've seen. Some regular washers, some front loaders and some jumbo front loaders. Industrial dryers line the center. There was nothing exceptional about it. Nothing terrible either. Until I loaded up one of the jumbo $4 washers only to have it stop counting my money at $3. Couldn't use the change return. Dropping more money into it got me nowhere. Time to abandon that washer. Problem was I didn't have enough change for another washer and only had a $20 bill, which I wasn't going to exchange $20 worth of quarters. Not having an attendant on-site, which is pretty standard, I looked for a contact number hoping the owner / manager was nearby and could get my wash going. No luck. The only number I found painted on the front window rang and rang and rang with no answer. Undetered, I packed up and went to break my $20 bill. Upon coming back and spending more money on a different machine, I was finally able to get my clothes washed. Unfortunately the automatic fabric softener dispenser didn't work. After the load was done, I saw the fabric softener still sitting in the dispenser and had to buy a dryer sheet. In the grand scheme of things, these are minor nuisances rather than life shattering catastrophes, but still a total PITA I'd rather not have to deal with. read more

I recently downsized and moved into a small Montrose apartment that doesn't have its own laundry machines, so I started using this place. The owner keeps this laundromat well maintained and clean, and moves quickly to repair machines when they fail. The washers come in three sizes: top-loading single load, and front loading triple and quadruple load machines. There are restrooms, as well as a soda vending machine, and tables and benches scattered around; there is also a bill changer on site. read more

Rules, rules, rules. As a teacher, I know the downside of posting rules, rules, rules EVERYWHERE: treat humans like common criminals, and we'll act like common criminals. This mean old man may have a pretty nice facility in a pretty decent area, but enough with all the damn rules. Don't do this, stop doing that...he even has a digital signs up front that tells a big, long, story about washing dog beds and how he is protecting his investment and blah, blah, blah. How do I know he is a mean old man? He lives in the middle of the strip center like a crazy Ebenezer Scrooge and will come by and turn your dryer up to HIGH HEAT without your consent to get you outta there faster...we have seen him do it!!! I give three stars becaus it is nice and clean with lots of machines in a large space, but expensive (at 3.50 a wash). I generally come here only in a panic. Top load washers only fill half full, so you cannot use full capacity of washer. Also, the "HOT" & "WARM" settings are a joke! A little hot water pours in, and then only cold water - SO no matter what temperature selected, you end up with cold wash! Recently moved to midtown area from Woodlands and find a good laundry spot has been a bit of a struggle, but I think I am done! The Haut Wash is spacious, clean, good music, nice ambiance, only found 1 machine down - YAY! I don't necessary like that there is not an attendant on site, but everything else has been awesome. I am paying a little (little) more than the last place I used but I am good with that in exchange for not having to wear ear plugs and seek a machine that works. I will be back! read more

First time using Haut Wash, and I have to say, it wasn't as bad as I thought a Houston laundromat might be. There were plenty of machines, although yes, parking was limited. I did manage to snag a place though. There are a few chairs around to sit while you're waiting, as well as a table of magazines. I brought my own detergent/softener, so I can't comment on the quality of the dispensers, but they were 75 cents per detergent or softener, so I'm glad I brought my own - that seems steep to me! XL machines (triple loads?) were $4/each, large loads (double?) were $3.25, and regular top-loading machines were $2.50 each. I put my Queen bed comforter in the XL machine and it wasn't over-full. I feel like my brother would've added more to it, but I don't like to over-crowd. There is a change machine, but I came at the end of the day and it wouldn't take my $20 - I think there weren't enough quarters in it. Luckily I had two 5s, so I got enough to do what I needed to. The place was well kept in the sense that not a lot of machines were out of order, but overall the place just looked kind of dingy. Walls could be repainted, floor was stained, etc. But the machines worked and my items didn't smell sour coming out of the wash (has happened at another place once) so I'm happy. Overall, I'll be back when I do large items! Convenient to me and very well lit; leaving at night I still felt safe because there was hustle and bustle next door at the restaurant. read more

This place is so worth the 10min drive. Cute little secluded laundromat in a quiet little neighborhood. Little radio plays popular contemporary songs. Lots of washers& dryers, and people trickling in & out with their clothes. This place is NEVER crowded! You can wait in your car, or sit on the bench and enjoy the weather and peacefulness of the area. Couple of food places nearby, including chipotle a couple blocks away. This place stays clean. No AC, though, so it will get hot and muggy on a hot day. The direction signs inside don't bother me: it's owned by an elderly man, so he's gonna be a little fussy about his property! read more

Haut Wash is a good laundromat. For me, it's biggest appeal is that it doesn't stink - the perfumes in dryer sheets and most detergents give my boyfriend headaches, nausea and rashes, which can make it hard to use most laundromats. The downsides are that the washers are a little more expensive than several other places around town, the parking is very limited, and you might accidentally drive by it once or thrice before noticing it. read more

I went there for my first time and found the machines very dirty! Just open the soap dispenser box where the detergent and softeners go. Mold, scum and previous customers' detergents are still sitting in these compartments. Just imagine what's in the insides of the machines that connects the detergents to our clothes!! I had a ton of clothes to wash as my washer broke down at my house. I hadn't used a laundromat in 25 years. I finally found a couple machines I dared to use. One started overflowing water out the door while in use. A couple of the machines ate some of the quarters too. One last comment: I arrived at 7 am when they were supposed to open. All doors were locked. I waited 20 minutes and finally left after confirming with the Mockinbird that the laundromat was still open. I came back at 10:30 am and finally used the machines. The customers are all nice and the place seemed safe. But they really need to work on detail cleaning each machine!! Putting soap on top of mold does not clean our clothes. We might as well just rewear our clothes instead of ruin them! read more
