Have been here for their October fests over the years (yes a must try!) and came here today to take my Dad and Uncle to lunch for Veterans Day. 1st off the service was great. Jimmie greeted us and got us a table outside. He promptly asked what we wanted for drinks- me and my Aunt decided to try the Ayinger Celebrator (bock beer) which yes if you like a dark beer it is a full bodied yummy beer. Next to order. Three orders of Original German Brat an order of Huhner (chicken) Schnitzel and a side of the potato pancakes with apple sauce. The food came quickly and was piping hot and everyone raved about their meals! The portions are big enough that we all got to go boxes to bring home! Made my reservation 2 wks in advance over the phone, because website was not working. Surprised, when arrived that sitting outside, which had been requested at time of reservation, would be $5 extra per person. This, had never been mentioned when making reservation. Party of 6 were put in front of us, they proceeded to outside, without extra $5 per person. Ultimately, we were sat inside. The food was ok - they were out of ice - 40 minutes after seating, we received our food. The restaurant seemed "surprised" that it was Octoberfest. The service was non existent, the beer cooler was out so a lot of the options weren't available, schnitzel way over cooked, plastic in my salad, also salad seemed like it was sitting for hours in dressing, potatoes tasted recooked and overcooked, couldn't even find a server or manager to say anything or to even get condiments or refills.nothing possible to say about this place. Ignore the name -- this is real German food. We've been coming here for years -- including with my mom and her friends who were born in Germany. My most recent visit was on Christmas Eve and virtually everything was really good. I got the roulade and it was YUMMY. The gravy was awesome. The spaetlze was a bit disappointing, but then I was used to my friend's home-made, so my standards are pretty high. While the rot kraut was different from the way my mom made it (different regions, different recipes), it was still good. My husband ordered the snitzel and was quite happy. My son got some huge hunk of meat -- still on the joint (I forget the name) -- and it was so tasty. My daughter-in-law (who is from Switzerland) ordered the wurst and was pleased. What a charming restaurant. I am truly sorry that the stars I give are not in relation to the food since I am not really familiar with what I am assuming is German food. It is rather to the service and the ambiance. We were there for an anniversary party. We ordered from the menu. I had the paprika schnitzel. My table mates had the jaeger schnitzel and the bauernplatte for two. The schnitzels were accompanied by a side of potatoes. My schnitzel was quite tasty as well as the jaeger schnitzel of my tablemate. I tasted the sausages on the bauernplatte, and, yes, they were good as well. I was more used to the taste of the potatoes. I believe they were lightly fried and seasoned. Michael was our server. He is German as well as the owner. Twenty years ago Haus Murphy's was my first job and I've been eating here ever since. Went in today with my mom and husband we had the mushrooms and pretzel for an appetizer and they were so delicious! For entrees my mom got the chicken schnitzel, my husband had the Caesar salad and I had the meatloaf. All of it was really good. I love the meatloaf but I think the chicken schnitzel is my favorite! Quality German food. Four different meals all five stars. Nothing fancy about the place. No frills. It's all about the food. The interior and exterior needs a lot of TLC. I lived in Regensburg, Bavaria for ten years so I can assure you that Haus Murphy's is the real deal. We started out with the potato pancakes with applesauce and sour cream. They were delicious. My husband had Wienerschnitzl and I had Jägerschnitzl. Both were the size of the dinner plate, juicy, tender and cooked to perfection. Both come with french fries but we substituted with the German fried potatoes, which we highly recommend. We had a 40 minute wait on a weeknight, not too bad...we sat at the bar, the place was short staffed but the bartender was apologetic and eventually we got our drinks. It was nice to be acknowledged. We finally were seated, and served promptly. The service staff were very nice. My problem was the gnats, fruit flies, or whichever they are. We could not keep them away from our drinks or food. I ended up asking for a to-go container because it was just too difficult to eat. I used the washroom before I left. There are two. One for men, and one for 'unisex'. How nice. I had to fight off the flies in the unisex while trying to do my biz. The bathroom was dirty, but what's a girl to do? Obviously there are cleanliness problems there. I threw my dinner away when I got home. I'm not sure what the kitchen cleaning regimen was like. That's too bad. I'm German and would have loved to find a good German restaurant. read more

Located in the heart of Downtown Glendale, this noisy little place caught our attention walking by. Now, I am not German, nor do I even really know what German food is, but I was actually quite surprised and enjoyed my experience. We sat outside in what looks like an alley, where flags hung from above and where one space heaters warmed 2 tables. Nice and cozy. For two people we ordered the stuffed mushrooms, the giant pretzel, and the paprika schnitzel. This was surprisingly way more than enough food. The mushrooms were great! The we opted to get the pretzel with the extra cheese (~$3 more). I could have done without the horseradish tasting cold cheese in the tiny 2oz cup. I think I was expecting the warm yellow gooy cheese you normally find at the fair...heh. The paprika schnitzel we ordered because apparently Guy Ferrari from Food Network got it and it wasn't bad but not the best thing I've tasted in the world. Came here after another place did not have a normal menu due to outdoor event. We ordered two 32oz beers, a Paulander and a Grapefruit Hefeweisen. Both were great. I had the double large German Sausage dinner with Sauerkraut and German Potatoe Salad. First of all, our waitress was an ass. Man I haven't been to Haas Murphy's in years I think the last time was during Oktoberfest at lunch I remember I slammed three of there huge 32 oz mugs of Oktoberfest beer like in an hour and I drove home like a idiot luckily I didn't get pulled over I think the beer didnt hit me till I got home because remember going home and passing out and my son call me to come get him from school I was like 30 minutes late to pick him up bad daddy but now Oktoberfest starting again so i decided to stop in for some Oktoberfest beer that can't say on the name of and have that giant super delicious pretzel that's fluffy on the inside little hard on outside perfectly salted I love their hard cheese spread and their mustard his grate with the beer I never tried any of there food but I think I going to next time hopefully before next year read more

We tried this establishment for my late birthday celebration based on the reviews of previous Yelpers. What a find!!! This restaurant is located in the Glendale historical district. The parking can be a little tight; you can park at a few close parking lots - it's a short walk. They have an outdoor seating area that looks fairly European. The atmosphere indoors is full of German cultural decorations as well. They even host Polka music on the weekends! The wait staff was awesome and extremely friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. They have a terrific menu! We had one of their pretzels with cheese as an appetizer - it was huge! It took up the entire plate! You could split one of their pretzels between 3 to 4 people easy. They serve authentic German beer, wine and cocktails along with a fantastic desert menu for after dinner.
