Both were fantastic tour guides, knowledgeable about the history of various buildings/homes in Savannah, the people who have lived there, and the spooky experiences at each location. I discovered this company after reading James Caskey's (author and Cobblestone Tours owner) Haunted Savannah book. I prefer tours that are heavily history based and incorporate the ghost stories, rather than the more touristy companies that focus solely on the ghost tales. It was pouring rain with lighting and thunder during our tour this month, which added to the spookiness, but was probably uncomfortable for our tour guide - if I could give extra stars to Nicole I would - thank you so much for still taking us on the tour despite the weather!

Our tour guide, Ron, made the experience very interactive, the whole group (even our tween girl, who has the attention span of any kid her age that grew up with a phone attached to their hand at all times) was very engaged with his stories, they were scary but somehow he made us laugh while listening to him. During our tour we got caught in a bad thunderstorm, Ron checked to see if we were willing to continue (we lost a third of the group) and for those of us who staid, he found shelter and told us about his personal experience while he was getting drench by the rain. We really like how easy we were able to book our tour, Ron was waiting for us at the meeting place and we embarked on our ghostly adventure without a hitch.

After getting past their technical glitches (online booking not being current and telephone to make…read morereservations being out-of-service), we booked our reservation for the Foody Tour of Savannah, one of the tours offered by Savannah Movie Tours. We were picked up at the Visitors Center and boarded a nice, comfortable, clean, climate-controlled bus. Our tour guide, Ron, was excellent. He was very informative, comical, and really knew Savannah. (Afterwards, we discovered that he's the President and CEO of the company!) We stopped at several locations on the tour and sampled a variety of foods. Included in our tour (although each may vary) were Mom & Nikki's (smothered shrimp), Harris Baking Co. (pecan pastries), Polk's Produce (tomato sandwiches and BBQ), Angel's BBQ (duh...BBQ), the Paris Market (frozen hot chocolate...mmmm....), Savannah Bee Company (honey and honeycomb(!) samplings), Wright Square Cafe (chocolates and truffles), and, finally, Paula Dean's Lady & Sons restaurant for a sampling of one item from their buffet. All of the samples were delicious, although I was a bit chocolated out! Along the way, we got a great history of the restaurants, including the city of Savannah. I'd definitely recommend it at the beginning of a visit to Savannah so you know where you'd like to return to during your stay. It's like a city tour and lunch rolled into one.

We had Julie as our tour guide and she was very pleasant and non rushed during the tour and gave us excellent information. It was especially helpful to have a TV inside the bus that showed clips of places we stopped at and she explained the filming as well. With two stops along the way at the Savannah Theater and Leopold's Ice cream where we had time to meet the owner and indulge in some of the best ice cream around, we both clearly enjoyed our time on this tour, and I wouldn't hesitate to go again or refer someone to take it. Savannah Carriage Tours was incredibly frustrating and left me feeling taken advantage of. While…read morevisiting the area, I parked near their operation in what appeared to be a normal, public spot. There was zero clear signage indicating that parking was prohibited or that vehicles would be towed. No warning signs, no visible notices--nothing that would reasonably alert a driver. Within a very short time, my car was gone. I later learned it had been towed, conveniently and quickly, by a towing company that seems to patrol this area aggressively. The whole situation felt like a setup designed to trap unsuspecting visitors. It's hard not to believe there is some level of coordination when towing happens so fast in an area with no posted restrictions. The towing fees were outrageous, and the process to retrieve my car added insult to injury. What should have been a pleasant Savannah experience turned into a costly and stressful ordeal. Tourists beware: if you're anywhere near Savannah Carriage Tours, be extremely cautious about where you park--even if it looks legitimate. This experience seriously soured my visit, and I would not recommend supporting a business operating in an area where situations like this are allowed to happen.
