We are theater nerds and have over the years seen loads of on-the-road Broadway plays…read more Last year we moved to central Georgia and were not looking forward to tackling I-95 to Atlanta for the play season, and then we found MLT. The theater is a comfortable smaller venue, lots of parking, easy in and out. So far,we have seen two plays and have tickets for three upcoming. (Season tickets) The performances, cast, costumes, and sets have been at the same level, or above, everything we have seen in larger venues with traveling companies. To anyone who thinks theater is out of budget, we recommend Macon Little Theater you will not be disappointed.

The seating is open, so get your tickets online, but arrive early to get a prime seat. Thanks to being a cozy theater, there really isn't a bad seat in the house. THE HIDDEN GEM OF PERRY, GA!…read more While visiting the city of Perry, my husband and I decided to check out the local community theatre which was having an Open House today. This building has been around since the twenty's, and was originally a car dealership. It was acquired in the 1980's and converted into the theatre. It appears to be in great shape. We had an opportunity to chat with the director and some of the employees, Volunteers are in the process of preparing the stage, (priming and construction). for their next production, (Plaza Suite by Neil Diamond), with starts later this month. The director was very enthusiastic about it all and if I recall correctly, they are in their 34th year. It usually takes about seven weeks for them to get the stage set up and ready to go. While I was there, I wanted to check out the seating situation. The seats, (170), are great because they are cushioned and set in such a way they you have a great view of the stage from every angle. It also helps that the stage is large, open and quite close to the audience. This is truly community theatre as it is all volunteer and two of the current principles have had no prior acting experience. Everyone is encouraged to try out.and I would love to come down and actually see one of their productions. If you live close by, you should take the time to come by and support this local theatre. It is located in the heart of downtown, (on Main street), and would be a perfect option for "date night". Check out the website where you can purchase your tickets on line.

I bought tickets online in advance, this performance is yearly. The talent of course changes as the students move on and graduate. The parking is behind the bldg, so be prepared to walk a bit to the front door. They had the campus decorated and for Christmas, so I really enjoyed all the lights. The inside was very clean and tidy. I really like how organized check in was, and open seating. So make sure you arrive for a great seat. The show was approx 2hrs long, so not bad at all. "Behold The Star" was absolutely amazing performance in Augusta, GA. I will check them out yearly for sure. It was well worth the drive and time spent. I was particularly impressed by the logistics of table calling for the buffet, a feat I feel could have been disastrous if not planned effectively. I had mixed feelings about the food itself, the squash casserole was delicious, the chicken piccata was disappointingly dry, and the London broil was quite good but they gave you one disappointingly small piece. The dessert, I chose a slice of lemon cake, had a wonderfully light and sweet frosting but the cake itself was a little dry. As for the performance section I was overwhelming pleased by the level of performance skill. It was the opening night, which always has potential mistakes (especially from local or volunteer performers) but it was a pristine performance. Set changes were smooth, the play commentary was well done. The audience was excited to be there and actively took part in the sections where audience participation was called for. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who has an interest in musical theater. I will warn you the prices are a bit high for the quality of buffet, but not bad overall (about $53 per ticket for civilians).
