Marshall, the manager at Riverwatch Cinemas is running his own gem. Riverwatch is a community hub where people of all kinds can find company, healthy escape, fun, life, and good old-fashioned nights out at the movies. Marshall is always on the floor, zipping around and making sure both his customers and his team are happy and running well. A little while back, during the thick of my Ph.D. dissertation deadline, I showed up at Riverwatch a couple of hours before meeting my husband for a movie. All of the decent coffee shops were already closed, but I needed somewhere to work before the movie. Marshall not only allowed me to come in early and work in the nice dining/bar area, but he also checked on me regularly, shared his love and passion for his work with me, and made a wonderful impression on me. I now understand why Riverwatch is the place to be! Movies are constantly sold out, the setting is lively and appealing, and Marshall should be credited for this. Whenever we are down and just need to cheer up or want something fun to do when loved ones visit, we get so excited to go to the movies at Riverwatch. Thank you, Marshall, for keeping this precious part of our culture thriving! Attached: photo of my husband's work's trip to the Wicked movie premiere at RWC.

The theater was clean overall, and everything felt well maintained despite showing a little age. The concessions delivered. The popcorn was fresh, buttery, and exactly what you hope for when you go to the movies. The ICEE machine was fully stocked and actually working, which deserves recognition on its own. Cold. Flavorful. No watered-down disappointment here. The staff kept things moving, and the theater had a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere. It's not the newest cinema around, but it gets the job done and makes for an enjoyable movie night. If you're looking for luxury recliners and the latest upgrades, you may notice its age. But if you want fresh popcorn, a good ICEE, comfortable reclining seats, and a clean theater to catch a movie, GTC Riverwatch is a solid choice. It's not a huge screen place to see a blockbuster, though, so I would only occasionally look here.

I don't know about parking. Mrs. K. and I found ourselves lingering longest in the glass gallery, where the craftsmanship becomes almost hypnotic the more you study it. Some pieces feel impossibly delicate, others bold and architectural, and tucked among them was the one name I recognized immediately, Dale Chihuly, whose museum we last wandered through in Seattle. Seeing his work here, in a completely different context, gave the whole collection a sense of continuity across regions and styles, almost like running into an old friend in a new city. Beyond the glass, the museum opens into a thoughtful survey of Southern art that moves easily from landscapes to portraits to sculpture and even furniture, each room offering a slightly different rhythm. The landscapes in particular have that quiet, atmospheric quality Augusta does so well, while the portraits feel intimate without being fussy. Sculptural pieces and period furnishings round things out, giving the galleries a sense of depth and texture rather than a single through‑line. It's the kind of museum where two hours pass without you noticing, and you walk out feeling like you've had a conversation with the region rather than just looked at objects on walls. Just standing outside, you realize it has an amazing covered patio area in the front. There is a foyer on the other side of this large space, inside, that can be entered via the JB White's building. It has a single restroom for use and a open space for any ideas one may have. This building proves its versatility on a regular basis. It hosts a local church on Sunday's and occasional during the week, it was the home base for Mahogany Lounge for a number of years, it served as the Troubadour Stage for Arts in the Heart (the only indoor stage I might add), and it is used for trainings, birthday parties, and wedding receptions. With parking provided via the Broad Street medians, there is plenty to choose from. And if you are having an event during the hours New Moon Cafe is open, it is right next door for your convenience. I have been told there are some spaces upstairs that are available for workspace, something to keep in mind as well. Overall, the nostalgia of this historical building has been preserved. The brick walls remain exposed and down the hallway you can even see a old barn door. It is what you would imagine in a downtown building, but with relevant function. *Insider's Tip -Twice a year the Handmade Fair takes place here. It begins outfront on the patio, goes through the large space, into the foyer, and actually curves around into the JB White's building beside the Book Tavern.
