This place is awesome! This history needs to be preserved and Mr Excho plus Red the Sword Swallower are doing a great job! I got a full private tour which was educational, entertaining, unusual and fun! What more could you ask for? To me its the main attraction in Augusta and I went way out of my way to get there. I was so glad I did and you'll be too!

Very unique experience. The closet thing I can compare this to is Ripley' or P.T. Barnum. This place is small and very personal. The tour is totally guided. See the world of unusual and bizarre. Most everything in the museum is 1920 or before. At the end Red a side show entertainer showed us how to hammer a 5 inch nail into his head through his nose and swallow a sword. We were there about 2.5 hours.

We had a fun 2 hours with Peter. Lots to look at. He held our interest the whole time. Sword swallower, Red at the end and then exit thru a coffin into the gift shop. We enjoyed it and feel it was worth the ticket price. They also have plays, like Sweeney Todd, on the weekends.

I've known about this museum for quite some time but never had the opportunity to visit until recently. Luckily, my goddaughters (11 & 14) are in town for the summer and due to inclimate weather hindering our other plans, I thought about this little gem. Looking at Google for the hours of operation, the only way to visit is to call and book a viewing. Upon arrival, our party was thoroughly entertained with the rich history of the American dime museums, curated by Peter. The tour of his many oddities was fascinating and the girls were focused on his presentation! Somehow this awesome little museum was able to procure an upcoming display of a super rare adult 2 headed T-Rex !!! I will definitely be returning when the exhibit is completed. When I thought the tour was wrapping up, we were presented to a legendary traveling showman, Red. Hopefully you don't get too queazy watching a spike being hammered into a nose or long & sharp objects being impaled into the stomach of an individual. I absolutely recommend visiting Pexcho's American Dime Museum!

We had an absolutely and unbelievable time with my group. Peter was very generous with information and made the entire experience a lot of fun! So many neat and odd trinkets and tales that really enriched our overall experience. I highly recommend visiting the ONLY dime museum left in the us. This was a great experience and sooooo much fun!

Perfect event on a rainy day, especially in Augusta. Can't tell you too much, but fun thing to do alone or with a friend or family. A very unique dime museum. A bit of a history lesson, items to make you laugh, tour guide is the very interesting guy in the photo. $14 a person, as of now cash only but there's an ATM there. Also a coffee shop there with a few options. The museum has events and performers that can be found on their Facebook page that include things like sword swallowers, rocky horror picture show

    So much to see.

An excellent place to visit if traveling through Georgia. Americana has never looked so wonderfully odd and eccentric. See for yourself!

Every style, medium, and vantage point you can think of (or not know about) is here. It welcomes you via the front windows and swaddles you as you walk further in. And the team here are some of the friendlist folks you will meet downtown. And recommendations? They have plenty. They've been there for over two decades so they know a thing or two. Of course they can give you background information on each of the artists' whose work is in the shop and sometimes even some insight on the piece itself. But I also want to highlight a aspect of AOB that I constantly make use of; framing. Once you make it to the back (after joyful hours of looking at everything while en route), you will see a workshop area. There one or two team members will always be hard at work (though never too busy to answer questions). I have brought quite a number of posters, prints, and paintings over the years in search of their guidance in what frame to choose, how to frame it (matte/no matte/thickness of-color-etc.), and even the optimum glass. And every time they have come through. When I ask them to push me out of my comfort zone (aka, solid color frames), they did and my piece was the better for it. Their presence and their services are invaluable to downtown and our community. If you haven't been, or if it's been more than a week, I recommend you stop in soon. You can thank me later.

I appreciate the artists who take brush to canvas and other mediums to create something breathtaking and life giving. And pottery? Oh, that I am envious of. To take a lump of clay and make a bowl or plate or holiday tree. That is a gift. And one place to find this gift is at Tire City Potters. A mainstay and cornerstone of downtown for many years, you cannot fully anticipate what awaits upon your first visit. It is tucked away on the corner of 10th and Ellis Street. If you have any doubts you're in the right place, just look for the giant yellow square on the wall with a robot head and the word "HAPPY" underneath it. Then you're good. Though I am unsure of the number of mugs-etc. I have purchased from here, I will mention the latest one. It is a tea cup that is dual textured. The mix of colors with a smooth and grainy texture alone makes it beautiful. But to hold it and sip your evening tea, that is art coming to life. I am grateful for their presence, their passion, and their continued work downtown. Stop by and visit them soon.

The Augusta Museum of History is the city's oldest historical institution, founded in 1937 and now the only accredited museum in the Central Savannah River Area, which gives it a level of curatorial depth you can feel as you move from room to room. The museum's signature exhibition, Augusta's Story, begins with the region's earliest Indigenous cultures, including artifacts from the Stallings Island people, and then moves through the Colonial Era, the antebellum period, the Civil War, and the city's twentieth century reinventions. You see everything from slave‑made pottery to a 12‑pounder bronze Napoleon cannon tube and an 1869 steam fire engine tied to the devastating 1916 fire that reshaped parts of the city. It's a rare chance to see Augusta's full arc laid out in a way that feels comprehensive. The museum also excels at capturing the city's cultural identity. The James Brown gallery is a highlight, celebrating the life and global influence of the "Godfather of Soul" with photographs, stage pieces, and biographical context that show how deeply he shaped Augusta's modern identity. Several media options to watch him performing and to hear other leading figures discuss his influence. The golf and Masters Tournament section offers a thoughtful look at how the sport became intertwined with the city's reputation, and the medical history exhibit includes an impressive wall of antique medicine bottles that gives you a sense of how local healthcare evolved over generations. One of the most enjoyable parts of the visit is the Transportation Corridor, which brings Augusta's mobility story to life with a 1914 steam locomotive, a 1917 steam trolley, a reconstructed 1930s gas station, and a range of early vehicles. Walking through the restored streetcar and stepping into the rail car for photos adds a tactile, playful element that balances the more traditional exhibits. Upstairs, the museum's radio history exhibit traces the rise of WBBQ, one of Augusta's most influential stations, including a "then and now" section installed for its 60th anniversary. There are also exhibits on local law enforcement and firefighting, as well as a gallery of regional legends that highlights entertainers, athletes, writers, and other notable Augustans. The entire museum is comfortably explored in about two hours, which makes it an easy and rewarding stop whether you're spending a full day downtown or pairing it with the Morris Museum of Art or the Riverwalk. It's the kind of place that leaves you with a clearer sense of Augusta's character, from its earliest settlements to the voices and industries that shaped the city you see today. Don't miss it.
