I was angry ALL the time, and I know it was hard to try to work toward any sort of compromise when I was like that. At some point, I had an A-HA moment when I heard "anger is the bodyguard of sad". It was absolutely a lightbulb going off for me... Being angry and lashing out protected the sad or frightened parts of myself. I do think that served me well when I was little and was abused...it's easier to take advantage of a meek little girl, but if I lashed out like a wildcat, I surely protected myself from further incidents. I never even realized that that's what I was doing. I mean...game-changer...and it only took me 44 years to find that out! Now, my husband and I can both recognize that when I'm feeling threatened (and I can feel threatened by even little things!) or unsafe, that this angry part of me storms the helm and tries to take over. I've learned through couples counseling and a smaller DBT therapy group, how to recognize this and not just let it rule the moment. This has been transformative and a real savior to our marriage. If you're willing to look deep & be inquisitive (instead of judgmental...toward yourself and your partner) then Rebecca can really be a lifeline and help guide you & your partner to a more cohesive partnership. Something I don't share often is that I lost my daughter in February of 2015. For the most part, I handle my grief just fine on my own (with God, of course, because I could never handle something like that on my own). Unfortunately, when the latest iOS update erases all of the text messages Kelly and I exchanged before she died, or when a random Facebook memory pops up and it dredges up a memory that makes me miss her even more than usual, that's when I get emotional. Being emotional makes me realize that I do need someone to help me learn to practice healthy coping mechanisms. Following the iOS update incident, a colleague recommended Christian Counseling Professionals and I decided it might be helpful to talk with a professional. After glancing over each of the counselors' profiles on their website, I made an appointment with a sweet lady who specializes in grief counseling. I've been going a few months now and counseling has made a substantial impact on my life. My counselor not only helps me learn to cope with occurrences like the events I described above, she also talks me through issues with my sons that are likely related to their grief. She's helping me discover so many inconsequential things I can do differently to dramatically improve the quality of my life. I can clearly see the benefit of talking with a professional rather than trying to deal with my grief all on my own. I honestly wish I had started going sooner. If you're even remotely considering talking to a professional counselor, I highly recommend making an appointment and not putting it off for 2 1/2 years like I did. You won't regret it.

No one has patience when it comes to a client. It hurt a lot to be treated like a dumbass when I couldn't help I needed help

He proceeded to send me a 19 page psychological evaluation diagnosing me with different disorders! I went in for ADHD testing! How can you think it's ok to diagnose someone with multiple things after spending 15 minutes talking to them, especially when that's not what they're seeing you for? He even misquoted me a couple of times in my report. This seems like an incredibly dangerous practice to me. Image the damage that can be done to people who don't have any self-awareness! Please go elsewhere.

I would recommend if your in a struggling…read moremarriage, to reach out to the church instead, there you will find people that will pray for you and with you before things turn worse. A good pastor can speak the "truth in love" where this organization is very limited. Skip Archer (a good person) does not provide good couples counsel he only turned my situation into a bigger mess. Hindsight is always 20/20, but I also encourage if your marriage ends in divorce (hopefully not) to attend DivorceCare at a local church this helped me more than the counseling from this organization and seek counsel "within the church". Can't speak for everyone but that is just my story.

Very disappointed. The office scheduling system is chaotic, in which I had to accept having a first…read moreappointment then no availability for months, the scheduling system was never clearly explained to me. I would call just hoping to get added for a cancellation, but only got to once in many weeks. I was relieved to finally get on the schedule after months. Beware after all that frustration, you then you might be kicked back to that status if you have cancellations even if you always give plenty of advanced notice and had a family emergency situation. No giving you a chance to explain, no warning, nothing. I reached out because I really needed help, and I left feeling dejected and worse off than when I started. Not how things should be communicated or handled in a mental health facility. I'm now looking elsewhere for help and suggest anyone else do the same.
