I called Marat, told him I wanted a 200 electrical panel, and he was able to quote me with an excellent price by seeing a picture via text of the existing electrical panel. Given that it was my first time buying a home and not knowing anything about permits and the procedure, Marat walked me through it. He advised that I needed to call LADWP to schedule an appointment with a tech who would mark the spot of the new meter. He then said once there is a meter spot, Marat will get to work --and he did immediately after I got the meter spot. In fact, Marat was there the next day! He worked on the panel for a couple of days, along with his son, and once he installed it, he took care of scheduling the appointment with LADBS. Since I saw how excellent Marat was as an electrician, I also had him install recess lighting in the living room, hallway, family room, and kitchen (amazing job) . I had him install 5 hardwired POE cameras throughout my house. And I also had him check all my GFCI outlets throughout the house and had him replace the ones not working. One day, none of the lights or outlets in my bedroom stopped working. I checked the panel, and none…read moreof the circuit breakers had flipped. I tried flipping everything off and on again -- no dice. East West came by the next day and diagnosed the problem methodically and carefully. They went through the bedroom first to establish the state of the electrical load and got a hot ground reverse reading. Look that up if, like me, you don't know what it means. Then they went through all the circuit breakers in my main panel and subpanel to establish which circuit the room was on. They found it on a circuit that, frankly, surprised me, because it also had some other unrelated rooms on it. At this point, they suspected some miswiring between the panels that had occurred when our solar system was installed. A couple times during this process, they also went into the overhead crawlspace to trace the circuit physically. During the second trip up there, we stumbled onto an epiphany: "CJ, there's a wire heading into your garage up here. What's over there?" "Oh, um... there's another panel in there that I forgot to tell you about." "I think we should look at that." Turns out that the third panel had a loose wire in it that was causing the problem! During this process, they explained to me everything they were seeing and considering. I learned a lot about circuits and amperage. At the end, they cleaned up after themselves, suggested I repaint my overhead access with oil-based paint to make it easier to wipe down, and charged me a fair price. Like many Burbankers living in a 70-year-old fixer, turning on the iron and the toaster oven at the same time was an iffy proposition. It was electric panel replacement time, as my old fuse box was straight out of The Shining. Having no power one day, I found Burbank Electric on nextdoor.com, where Wayne + crew were recommended 10x more than anybody else. That same day, Wayne appeared with a fix to get the power back on while we plotted a new panel replacement. It's not cheap, but you are only going to do it once. Wayne pulled all the permits, handled the inspections, and did a seamless job. Now I can turn everything on at once. Many of the the "Yelp-sponsored" electricians (there are 18) are not even in Burbank, and dispatch from some other location. Go with a local superstar who has probably already done work on your street. Wayne's been back to my place for minor stuff, exactly as scheduled. He's also the nicest guy in Burbank. I think it's really a 2.5 Stars but I'm rounding up to 3 Stars…read more Cost: I needed to get a dedicated electrical circuit installed for an over the stove microwave. BK Electric came out within a few days to take a look and give an estimate. I had received a lot of estimates for this project and BK Electric was in the lower middle range of the prices I got. Scheduling: This was honestly a nightmare. After I signed the contract and put down a deposit they scheduled me on a day for the following week. This outlet installation was required to be completed prior to a Costco purchased microwave delivery and installation appointment. They cancelled on me and needed to reschedule 3 separate times. Each time I was only notified the day of the scheduled appointment. This caused the follow on Costco microwave installation appointment to need to be rescheduled each time. To be fair to the person in the office, Eli, it wasn't his fault and he was properly scheduling and doing his best to get the electricians out to do the job. It was the electrians who either were calling out that day or last minute going to "higher priority" job sites. However, for the BK Electric as a whole, this is pretty terrible customer service. Work: The quality of the work seemed good. Where and how the ran the line and the junction box with the outlet installation all seemed cleanly done. However, there was an issue where they did not install a GFCI outlet in the new location that required it. This delayed the microwave installation since the Costco installers refused to install without a GFCI outlet. I had to call BK Electric and have them come back and fix it.
